Epiphyseal distraction and hybrid reconstruction using polymethyl methacrylate construct combined with free non-vascularized fibular graft in pediatric patients with osteosarcoma around knee: A case report

BACKGROUND In children with osteosarcoma around the knee joint without epiphysis involvement,joint-sparing surgery seems to be an ideal way to retain knee joint ***,there are two points of debate with regard to the technique:How to accurately achieve a safe surgical margin,and how to achieve intercalary reconstruction of the massive bone defect following resection of the *** SUMMARY We present the case of an 8-year-old girl with osteosarcoma of the distal femur without involvement of the *** distraction was applied to separate the epiphysis and metaphysis,and this provided a safe surgical *** massive bone defect was reconstructed with a custom-made antibioticloaded polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA)construct combined with a free nonvascularized fibular *** months after surgery,bone union between the autograft and host bone was confirmed in both the proximal and distal femur by computer tomography(CT)***,considerable callus formation was found around the PMMA *** 28 mo of follow-up,there was no sign of recurrence or *** patient could walk without any aid and carry out her daily life activities *** In cases of osteosarcoma without epiphysis involvement,epiphyseal distraction can be easily applied to obtain a safe *** reconstruction with an antibiotic-loaded PMMA construct combined with a free non-vascularized fibular graft has the advantages of being easy to manufacture,less time-consuming to place,and less likely to get infected,while also ensuring bone *** case provides an alternative technique for biological reconstruction after joint-sparing surgery in patients with osteosarcoma around the knee without epiphyseal involvement.

Amperometric Glucose Sensor Based on Batch CuO-Modified Screen-Printed Silver-Carbon Electrodes

CuO nanoparticles were successfully synthesized via a two-jet electrospun method,and then screen-printed on silver-carbon electrodes,forming CuO-modified Ag-C(CuO/Ag-C)disposable strip *** natural environment condition for glucose detection,the obtained CuO/Ag-C electrodes show a high sensitivity of 540 nA·mM^(-1)·cm^(-2),and a low limit of detection(0.68 mM)in a wide linear response range of 0.68 mM and 3 mM(signal/noise=3),*** addition,the CuO/Ag-C electrodes also exhibit excellent anti-interference,air stability and *** a result,the fabrication of CuO nanoparticles via an electrospun process and the technique of screen-printed electrodes are of great significance for glucose detection.

Losses of Urea-Nitrogen Applied to Maize Grown on a Calcareous Fluvo-Aquic Soil in North China Plain

Field experiments were conducted in a maize (Zea mays L.)field of a calcareous fluvo-aquic soil in North China Plain for studying the fate and ammonia loss of urea-N applied at seedling stage,as well as the effectiveness of coated calcium carbide(CCC) in reducing N loss and in improving the yield efficiency of *** show that:(1) For the surface-broadcast treatment ammonia volatilization (measured with micro-meteorological technique)took place quickly,reached the peak 20-26hr after application,and then declined gradually;the cumulative ammonia loss approached the maximum 188hr after application (30% of the N applied),and increased only to 32% 284 hr after application;the latter accounted for 71% of the total loss (45% of applied N).(2) In the case of point placement at a depth of 5-10 cm,ammonia loss 188hr after application was only 12% of the N applied,accounting for 40% of the total loss.(3) There was no difference in total loss between the application depths of 6cm and 10 cm,the loss of them was 30% and 29%,respectively.(4) Total loss of N applied at lower rate (40kg N/ha)with point deep placement at 6cm depth was found only 4% of the N applied,it rose up to 30% when the rate of application increased to 80kg N/ ha.(5) The nitrification inhibitor,CCC,seemed to enhance N loss of urea rather than reduce it,and did not show any benefit effect in improving the yield efficiency of urea,which is presumably due to the high potential of ammonia volatilization in the soil and climatic conditions under investigation.

BACKGROUND Monkeypox(Mpox),is a disease of global public health concern,as it does not affect only countries in western and central *** To assess Burundi healthcare workers(HCWs)s’level of knowledge and confidence in the diagnosis and management of *** We conducted a cross-sectional study via an online survey designed mainly from the World Health Organization course distributed among Burundi HCWs from June-July *** questionnaire comprises 8 socioprofessional-related questions,22 questions about Mpox disease knowledge,and 3 questions to assess confidence in Mpox diagnosis and *** data were analyzed via SPSS software version 25.0.A P value<0.05 was considered to indicate statistical *** The study sample comprised 471 HCWs who were mainly medical doctors(63.9%)and nurses(30.1%).None of the 22 questions concerning Mpox knowledge had at least 50%correct responses.A very low number of HCWs(17.4%)knew that Mpox has a *** confidence level to diagnose(21.20%),treat(18.00%)or prevent(23.30%)Mpox was low among *** confidence level in the diagnosis of Mpox was associated with the HCWs’age(P value=0.009),sex(P value<0.001),work experience(P value=0.002),and residence(P value<0.001).The confidence level to treat Mpox was significantly associated with the HCWs’age(P value=0.050),sex(P value<0.001),education(P value=0.033)and occupation(P value=0.005).The confidence level to prevent Mpox was associated with the HCWs’education(P value<0.001),work experience(P value=0.002),residence(P value<0.001)and type of work institution(P value=0.003).CONCLUSION This study revealed that HCWs have the lowest level of knowledge regarding Mpox and a lack of confidence in the ability to diagnose,treat or prevent *** is an urgent need to organize continuing medical education programs on Mpox epidemiology and preparedness for Burundi *** encourage future researchers to assess potential hesitancy toward Mpox vaccination and its asso

Clinicopathological differences between patients with schistosomal appendicitis and non schistosomal appendicitis:A retrospectively study of past ten years
