BACKGROUND: At present, fluconazole and intrathecal injection of amphotericin B has been widely used to treat cryptococcal meningitis. However, the application of amphotericin B can shorten course and has good effects on the treatment of cryptococcal meningitis. OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects and poor response of the intrathecal injection of amphotericin B on the treatment of cryptococcal meningitis. DESIGN: Retrospective-case analysis. SETTING: Department of Neurology, Beijing Hospital of Ministry of Public Health. PARTICIPANTS: Eight patients with cryptococcal meningitis were selected from Department of Neurology, Beijing Hospital of Ministry of Public Health from January 1995 to January 2006. Among them, there were 3 males and 5 females aged from 17 to 41 years and the course ranged from 21 days to 3 months. Patients who had symptoms of febrile and headache, positive meninges excitation, positive latex agglutination of cryptococcus of cerebrospinal fluid and positive ink smear were selected in this study. All patients provided informed consent. METHODS: Eight patients were treated with the fluconazole and intrathecal injection of amphotericin B. ① Intracranial hypertension of patients was controlled with flowing cerebrospinal fluid by repeatedly piercing waist; meanwhile, patients were taken the intrathecal injection of amphotericin B combining with flucytosine or fluconazole treatment. The dosage of amphotericin B was 1-5 mg/d at the beginning of administration, and then, the samples were added with 2 mg dexasine and 500 mL 5% glucose solution. The dosage was increased 5.0 mg per day till 50 mg per day, and the total dosage was 3.0-4.0 g. In addition, 2 mg dexasine was mixed with 4.0-5.0 mL cerebrospinal fluid, and then the solution was gradually injected into sheath for once a week. Amorphous carbons are promising anodes for high-rate potassium-ion *** low-temperature annealed amorphous carbons display unsatisfactory ***-induced defect engineering of amorphous carbons could enhance their reversible ***,most lignocellulose biomasses lack heteroatoms,making it a challenge to design highly heteroatom-doped carbons(>10 at%).Herein,we report a new preparation strategy for amorphous carbon ***/sulfur co-doped lignin-derived porous carbons(NSLPC)with ultra-high nitrogen doping levels(21.6 at%of N and 0.8 at%of S)from renewable lignin biomacromolecule precursors were prepared through a supramolecule-mediated pyrolysis *** supermolecule/lignin composite decomposes forming a covalently bonded graphitic carbon/amorphous carbon intermediate product,which induces the formation of high heteroatom doping in the obtained *** unique pyrolysis chemistry and high heteroatom doping of NSLPC enable abundant defective active sites for the adsorption of K+and improved *** NSLPC anode delivered a high reversible capacity of 419 mAh g^(-1)and superior cycling stability(capacity retention of 96.6%at 1 A g^(-1)for 1000 cycles).Potassiumion hybrid capacitors assembled by NSLPC anode exhibited excellent cycling stability(91%capacity retention for 2000 cycles)and a high energy density of 71 Wh kg^(-1)at a power density of 92 W kg^(-1).

RECONSTRUCTION OF THE SELLAR FLOOR FOLLOWING TRANSSPHENOIDAL SURGERY USING GELATIN FOAM AND FIBRIN GLUE

Objective To introduce a new principle of sellar reconstruction and to evaluate the effectiveness of absorbable gelatin foam and fibrin glue for sellar reconstruction. Methods A total of 176 consecutive patients who underwent surgery for pituitary adenomas, cysts, chordomas, or subdiaphragmatic craniopharyngiomas in the sella turcica between January 2001 and April 2003 at Peking Union Medical College Hospital were enrolled. Different techniques of sellar closure and indications for each specific condition were retrospectively reviewed. Results Seventy-seven (43.7%) patients developed a visible cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage during surgery. Intra- operative CSF leakage were repaired simply with gelatin foam and fibrin glue in 62 (35.2%) patients, and with autologous fat graft and sellar floor reconstruction in 15 (8.5%) patients. Postoperative CSF rhinorrhea occurred only in 1 case. There were no visual deterioration, allergic rhinitis, meningitis, pneumocranium, granulomas, or other complications asso- ciated with the reconstruction procedure. Conclusion The procedure of using gelatin foam and fibrin glue and principle of cranial base reconstruction is safe and effective in preventing postoperative complications following transsphenoidal surgery.

Praseodymium β-diketone chelate, Pr （DPM）3 [ DPM = 2,2,6,6 -tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionato ], was successfully synthesized from the inorganic salt praseodymium chloride and HDPM（2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptane-dione） in an ethanol/aqueous solution followed distillation at low pressure and recrystallization from toluene. The physical and thermal properties of the chelate, including volatility, stability, and thermal decomposition, were investigated by elemental analyses, 1^H NMR spectroscopy, XRD, TG/DTG/DTA analysis, infrared spectroscopy, and mass spectroscopy. The chelate with high purity prepared by the authors of this study also shows sufficient volatility and Stability in inert gases, which could be used as the precursor for metal-organic chemical vapor deposition（MOCVD）.
