Changes in glutathione redox cycle during diapause determination and termination in the bivoltine silkworm, Bombyx moil

To explore whether glutathione regulates diapause determination and termina tion in the bivoltine silkworm Bombyx mori, we monitored the changes in glutathione redox cycle in the ovary of both diapanse and nondiapauseegg producers, as well as those in dia pause eggs incubated at different temperatures. The activity ofthioredoxin reductase （TrxR） was detected in ovaries but not in eggs, while neither ovaries nor eggs showed activity of glutathione peroxidase. A lower reduced glutathione/oxidized glutathione （GSH/GSSG） ratio was observed in the ovary of diapauseegg producers, due to weaker reduction of oxidized glutathione （GSSG） to the reduced glutathione （GSH） catalyzed by glutathione reductase （GR） and TrxR. This indicates an oxidative shift in the glutathione redox cy cle during diapause determination. Compared with the 25℃treated diapause eggs, the 5℃treated diapause eggs showed lower GSH/GSSG ratio, a result of stronger oxidation of GSH catalyzed by thioredoxin peroxidase and weaker reduction of GSSG catalyzed by GR. Our study demonstrated the important regulatory role of glutathione in diapause determination and termination of the bivoltine silkworm.

The study was conducted to explore the mechanisms of sex differences in the response to chronic hepatitis B(CHB)in terms of DNA methylation,SNP genotype,and gene *** DNA was isolated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs)of CHB patients and healthy controls and evaluated using the human Methylation 450 K *** DNA methylation level at hg37 chromosome(CHR)X:7810800 was further validated using *** genotypes,VCX mRNA expression of PBMCs,and plasma VCX protein concentration were further examined using SNaPshot,RT-qPCR,and Western blot,*** showed that a total of 5529 CpG loci were differentially methylated between male and female CHB *** methylation level and CC+CT frequency at CHR X:7810800,VCX mRNA expression of PBMCs,and plasma VCX protein concentration were higher in female than in male CHB *** CHR X:7810800 locus was hypermethylated in CHB patients with CC+CT genotypes in comparison with those with the TT *** cases of CC-f CT genotypes,VCX mRNA expression was negatively correlated with the DNA methylation *** patients with higher levels of HBV DNA,AST,and GGT or higher GPRI scores exhibited lower VCX *** conclusion,SNPs and DNA methylation at the CHR X:7810800 locus cooperatively regulate VCX expression in *** upregulated VCX expression in female CHB patients might represent a mechanism of protection from more severe liver dysfunction and extensive fibrosis,as observed in male CHB patients.

We present a lattice quantum chromodynamics(QCD)simulation with 2+1+1 flavor full QCD ensembles using near-physical quark masses and different spatial sizes L,at a~0.055 *** results show that the scalar and pesudoscalar 2-point correlator with a valence pion mass of approximately 230 MeV become degenerated at L≤1.0 fm,and such an observation suggests that the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking disappears effectively at this *** the same time,the mass gap between the nucleon and pion masses remains larger thanΛQCDin the entire L∈[0.2,0.7]fm range.

The tacticity of vinyl polymers is a key factor affecting the properties of ***,organic Brønsted acids have been demonstrated as effective catalysts for the development of highly stereoselective cationic reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer(RAFT)polymerizations of vinyl ethers,in which the use of RAFT agents could allow the control the molecular weight and tacticity of polymer products ***,the effect of RAFT agents on the tacticity-regulation remains elusive and lacks of *** this study,we synthesized four types of RAFT agents and evaluated their influence in the stereoselective cationic polymerization of isobutyl vinyl ether in the presence of PADI as a Brønsted acid catalyst,which unveils that the Z group of RAFT agents could not only affect the polydispersity of the products,but also exert a profound effect on the *** extensive screening of the RAFT agents,high stereoregularity(isotacticity,90%m)was obtained when using dithiocarbonate ester-type RAFT agents with a benzyloxy Z group.

We report the ultrafast optical pump-probe spectroscopy measurements on the single-crystal cerium *** experimental results of temperature-dependent quasiparticle dynamics reveal development of the hybridization between localized f moments and conduction electrons,i.e.,evolving from fluctuating hybridization to collective *** phonon renormalization is discovered to appear at the emerging temperature(T^(+))of fluctuating hybridization apart from its known presence at the coherent temperature(T^(*)),and can hardly be explained by the mean-field *** quasiparticle relaxation at high temperatures indicates coexistence of nonthermal electron-electron scattering and inelastic Kondo scattering,while its behavior at low temperatures suggests onset ofαphase in theγ-phase dominated *** also extract the indirect gap below T^(*),representing the appearance of collective *** findings provide novel information about the hybridization and phase evolution in the heavy fermion systems.

Tongue coating, as a sensitive index of the physiological and pathological changes of human organs, is an important basis for the Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) syndrome differentiation and treatment. Mechanism of the formation and change of tongue coating is an important scientific problem. In recent years, researches indicated that in addition to apoptosis related genes, epidermal growth factor(EGF) and epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) also contribute to tongue coating formation. In this paper, we summarized recent studies on the potential role of EGF and EGFR in regulating the formation of tongue coating to provide some reference for the further investigations on tongue coating formation mechanisms.

As a natural biaxial hyperbolic material, α-phase molybdenum trioxide(α-MoO_(3)) exhibits dielectric and metallic properties in the plane, rendering it an exceptional candidate for polarization-dependent devices. In this work, we design a lithography-free polarization-dependent absorber consisting of an α-MoO_(3)film, a germanium layer, and a silver substrate. The results show that a narrowband absorption of up to 0.99 is achieved at a wavelength of 12.2 μm for transverse magnetic polarization. In contrast, the absorption is only 0.06 at this wavelength for transverse electric polarization. This remarkable polarization-dependent absorption performance is attributed to the coupling of epsilon-near-zero modes and Fabry-Perot resonances, which is confirmed by the electric field and power dissipation density distributions. Furthermore, strong polarization-dependent performance could also be achieved when the crystal axis of α-MoO_(3)is rotated in the out-of-plane. This work demonstrates that in-plane anisotropic α-MoO_(3)has the potential for designing high polarization-dependent devices.
