Carbon fixation is the main route of inorganic carbon in the form of CO2 into the *** nature,RuBisCO is the most abundant protein that photosynthetic organisms use to fix CO2 from the atmosphere through the Calvin-Benson-Bassham(CBB)***,the CBB cycle is limited by its low catalytic rate and low energy *** this work,we attempt to integrate the reductive tricarboxylic acid and CBB cycles in silico to further improve carbon fixation *** heterologous enzymes,mostly carboxylating enzymes,are inserted into the Esherichia coli core metabolic network to assimilate CO2 into biomass using hydrogen as energy ***,such a strain shows enhanced growth yield with simultaneous running of dual carbon fixation *** key results include the following.(i)We identified two main growth states:carbon-limited and hydrogenlimited;(ii)we identified a hierarchy of carbon fixation usage when hydrogen supply is limited;and(iii)we identified the alternative sub-optimal growth mode while performing genetic *** results and modeling approach can guide bioengineering projects toward optimal production using such a strain as a microbial cell factory.

Adsorption behavior of heavy metal ions by carbon nanotubes grown on microsized Al/2O3 particles

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were grown on the surface of microsized Al2O3 particles in CH4 atmosphere at 700°C under the catalysis of Fe-Ni nanoparticles. The CNTs on Al2O3 were used for adsorbing Pb2+, Cu2+, and Cd2+ from the solution and the results were compared with active carbon powders, commercial carbon nanotubes, and Al2O3 particles. The as-grown CNTs/Al2O3 have de- monstrated extraordinary absorption capacity with further treatment or oxidation, as well as hydrophilic ability that other CNTs lacked. The adsorption capacity of CNTs on Al2O3 is superior to other adsorbents and the preference order of adsorption on composite Al2O3 is Pb2+>Cu2+>Cd2+. It seemed that the adsorption of those Pb2+, Cu2+, and Cd2+ did not change the surface properties of composite particles. The adsorption behaviors of Pb2+, Cu2+, and Cd2+ by CNTs on Al2O3 match well with the langmuir isothermal adsorption model and the second order kinetic model. The calculated saturation amount adsorbed by 1 g of CNTs on Al2O3 are 67.11, 26.59, and 8.89 mg/g for Pb2+, Cu2+, and Cd2+ in single adsorption test, respectively.

Capacity Controllable Location Map Free Reversible Watermarking

Reversible watermarking techniques enable the extraction of the embedding bits from a watermarked image in a lossless way. It exploits the high spatial correlation among neighboring pixels. Application in reversible watermarking includes military and medical images. Images occurs overflow or underflow problems during the imbedding process since pixels value may be out of range [0:255]. Most methods require a location map to solve such problems. A location map free reversible watermarking algorithm is proposed in this study. A prediction threshold value is computed, histogram shifting scheme based on the prediction threshold value to solve overflow and underflow problems. Another threshold value is adopted to achieve capacity control, image quality is better in different payload length with this control. The experimental results reveal that the performance of proposed method outperforms that proposed by FUJIYOSHI et al.

Kinetics of electroless Ni-Cu-P deposits on silicon in a basic hypophosphite-type bath

Electroless Ni-Cu-P deposits were deposited on the Si substrate in a basic hypophosphite-type plating bath. The effects of pH value and the metal source composition,Ni and Cu,in the plating bath on the kinetics of the Ni-Cu-P deposition were studied. The electroless Ni-Cu-P deposits were characterized by a scanning electron microscope,a transmission electron microscope,an energy dispersive X-ray spectroscope,and an X-ray diffractometer. The results showed that the pH value of the plating bath had no ob-vious effect on the morphology and composition of electroless Ni-Cu-P deposits. However,the composition of the metal source,Ni and Cu,in the plating bath had great effect on the kinetics of electroless Ni-Cu-P deposition.

Finding meaningful sets of co-purchased products allows retailers to manageinventory better and develop market strategies. Analyzing the baskets ofproducts, known as market basket analysis, is typically carried out usingassociation rule mining or community detection approach. This article usesboth methods to investigate a transaction dataset collected from a brick-andmortargrocery store. The findings reveal interesting purchasing patterns oflocal residents and prompt us to consider dynamic modeling of the productnetwork in the future.

Dengue outbreaks in Taiwan, 1998-2017: Importation, serotype and temporal pattern

Objective: To ascertain the role of imported cases and serotypes on dengue outbreaks in Taiwan which have been sporadic yet highly volatile during the past two decades, exhibiting record-breaking magnitude in recent years. Methods: Confirmed case and serotype data from Taiwan Centers for Disease Control during 1998-2017 were fully examined, with fitting of weekly and daily case data of each city/county to a mathematical model to pinpoint the waves of cases and their locations. Moreover, we quantify the timing of turning point and transmission potential of each wave and determine its circulating serotype, to ascertain any pattern or connection between the variations in circulating serotypes and the magnitude/transmissibility of outbreak. Results: While the number of imported case increased steadily during past two decades, the yearly number of indigenous cases fluctuated wildly. Moreover, while yearly percentages of serotypes for imported cases remains steady, that of indigenous cases does not exhibit any clear pattern. There was at least one wave of reported cases somewhere in Taiwan every year from 1998 to 2015, except in 2016-2017. The effective reproduction number R for all waves in all locations ranged from 1.14 to 2.87, with the exception of two Tainan waves, in 2010(3.95) and 2015(6.84). Four major outbreaks of over 2000 cases reveal circulation of one dominant serotype. Conclusions: Correlation between imported cases and indigenous outbreak prove to be difficult to ascertain, even with the availability of serotype data. However, although there had been occasional co-circulation of serotypes in one location, and for some years with different serotypes circulating in different locations, all major outbreaks of over 2 000 cases during the past two decades are due to circulation of mainly a single serotype, perhaps indicating greater transmission potential with one dominating serotype.

Image Reconstructions from Limit Views and Angle Coverage Data for a Stationary Multi-Pinhole SPECT System

The goal of this paper is to investigate different reconstruction methods for solving the limited angle problem in reconstructing the projection data from a stationary multi-pinhole system based on a three-head clinical single photon emission computed tomography （SPECT） camera. Three iterative recon- struction approaches were studied including maximum likelihood expectation maximization （MLEM）, maximum a posteriori expectation maximization （MAPEM） with a smoothing prior, and an alternating optimization schemes from MLEM and total variation （TV） optimization. A three-headed multipinhole SPECT was simulated with apertures of nine 1-mm pinholes each, and covered scanning volume of 6-mm diameter. The reconstructions were optimized for various iterations based on visual inspections, and finally 20 iterations were applied for each method. For both MLEM-TV and MAPEM-TV, various initial reconstructions before TV optimization were studied. The smoothing parameter for MAPEM and the gradient descent constant for TV were also investigated through visual comparison. The preliminary results showed the 3 reconstruction methods generated compatible images, and can restore the images from projection data suffering limited angular sampling. However, MLEM was noisy for low-count and highly limited angle data, and thus suitable smoothing in MAPEM alleviated this problem, initial reconstructions were necessary for better edge enhancement in TV. The conclusion is that TV might be potential in producing more edge-enhanced images if all parameters were optimized.

The Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats/CRISPR-associated protein system(CRISPR/Cas)has recently become the most powerful tool available for genome engineering in various *** efficient and proper expression of multiple guide RNAs(gRNAs),the CRISPR/Cas system is particularly suitable for multiplex genome *** the past several years,different CRISPR/Cas expression strategies,such as two-component transcriptional unit,single transcriptional unit,and bidirectional promoter systems,have been developed to efficiently express gRNAs as well as Cas *** progress has been made to optimize gRNA production using different types of promoters and RNA processing strategies such as ribozymes,endogenous RNases,and exogenous endoribonuclease(Csy4).Besides being constitutively and ubiquitously expressed,inducible and spatiotemporal regulations of gRNA expression have been demonstrated using inducible,tissue-specific,and/or synthetic promoters for specific research *** recently,the emergence of CRISPR/Cas ribonucleoprotein delivery methods,such as engineered nanoparticles,further revolutionized transgene-free and multiplex genome *** this review,we discuss current strategies and future perspectives for efficient expression and engineering of gRNAs with a goal to facilitate CRISPR/Cas-based multiplex genome editing.
