Peripheral nerve injuries are often caused by trauma and they may result in a partial or total loss of motor function or sensory perception. After nerve injuries, peripheral axons have the ability to regenerate and reconnect the proximal and distal ends of severed nerve axons if the nerve gap is small. For larger nerve gaps, surgical treatments are often required to repair the injured nerves.

This paper proposes an energy and carbon footprint modelling using artificial intelligence technique to assess the impact of occupant density for various types of office *** use EnergyPlus to simulate energy con-sumption,and then estimate the related CO₂emissions based on three years(2016–2018)of Actual Meteoro-logical Year(AMY)weather *** occupant densities were used to evaluate the annual energy consumption and CO₂*** this work,a robust deep learning technique of long short-term memory(LSTM)model was established to predict the time-series energy consumption and CO₂emissions.A power exponential curve was suggested to correlate the behaviour of annual energy and CO₂emission for occupant densities range from 10 to 100 m2/person for each office building *** results of LSTM model show high prediction performance and small variations within the three types of office building data,which can be applied to the similar building model to predict and optimise energy consumption and CO₂emission.

BACKGROUND Target therapy is licensed by United States Food and Drug Administration on certain *** sorafenib and lenvatinib are tyrosine kinase inhibitor and indicated on radioactive iodine(RAI)-refractory differentiated thyroid cancer(DTC).Lenvatinib is more effective in cancers'control than sorafenib,but causes more nephrotoxicity than sorafenib *** case is the second published case about the serial adaptions from lenvatinib to sorafenib for improving the proteinuria and,meanwhile,achieving the therapeutic *** SUMMARY A 56-year-old man suffered from bilateral edematous lower extremities after 1-mo prescription of lenvatinib of 20 mg/d for RAI-refractory *** from this symptom,he also developed *** laboratory showed grade-3 proteinuria(estimated 24-h urine protein:9993 mg),hypoalbuminemia and ***-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)therapyinduced nephrotic syndrome was *** reduced dosage of lenvatinib of 10 mg/d and related symptomatic drugs,limited improvement was observed in both adverse effects and caner *** this condition,we substituted sorafenib of 400 mg/d for lenvatinib of 10 mg/*** a 5-mo prescription,not only hypertension and peripheral edema were greatly improved,but also proteinuria was improved from grade three to grade one(estimated 24-h urine protein:962 mg).At the same time the cancer control was achieved,judged from computed tomography and laboratory evidence[thyroglobulin(Tg)before prescription of sorafenib:354.7 ng/m L;Tg after prescription of sorafenib:108.9 ng/m L].CONCLUSION Adaption from lenvatinib to sorafenib is a feasible method to improve the antiVEGF therapy-induced nephrotic syndrome and achieve the therapeutic goal at the same time.

In this paper,we introduce an ultra-sensitive optical sensing platform based on the parity-time-reciprocal scaling(PT^-symmetric non-Hermitian metasurfaces,which leverage exotic singularities,such as the exceptional point(EP)and the coherent perfect absorber-laser(CPAL)point,to significantly enhance the sensitivity and detectability of photonic *** theoretically studied scattering properties and physical limitations of the PTX-symmetric metasurface sensing systems with an asymmetric,unbalanced gain-loss *** PTLY-symmetric metasurfaces can exhibit similar scattering properties as their Pr-symmetric counterparts at singular points,while achieving a higher sensitivity and a larger modulation depth,possible with the reciprocal-scaling factor(i.e.,X transformation).Specifically,with the optimal reciprocalscaling factor or near-zero phase offset,the proposed PTX-symmetric metasurface sensors operating around the EP or CPAL point may achieve an over 100 dB modulation depth,thus paving a promising route toward the detection of small-scale perturbations caused by,for example,molecular,gaseous,and biochemical surface adsorbates.

Objective: This study evaluated the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment on postoperative pain in patients with degenerative lumbar spine disease, and explored the relationship between the postoperative analgesic effect of acupuncture and the sensation of acupuncture experienced by the ***: This retrospective study analyzed the medical records of 97 patients who had undergone an operation by the same surgeon due to degenerative lumbar disease. These patients were divided into acupuncture group(n = 32), patient-controlled analgesia(PCA) group(n = 27), and oral analgesia group(n = 38) according to the different postoperative analgesic methods. During their hospitalization, patients completed daily evaluations of their pain using a visual analogue scale(VAS), and injection times of supplemental meperidine were recorded. Also, the Chinese version of the Massachusetts General Hospital Acupuncture Sensation Scale(C-MASS) was used in the acupuncture ***: Each of the three treatment groups showed significant reductions in postoperative pain, as shown by reduced VAS scores. The acupuncture group, however, had less rebound pain(P < 0.05) than the other two groups. Both the acupuncture and PCA groups experienced acute analgesic effects that were superior to those in the oral analgesia group. In addition, the higher the C-MASS index on the second day after surgery, the lower the VAS score on the fourth day after surgery. There was also a significant difference in the“dull pain” in the acupuncture ***: The results demonstrated that acupuncture was beneficial for postoperative pain and discomfort after simple surgery for degenerative spinal disease. It is worth noting that there was a disproportionate relevance between the patient’s acupuncture sensation and the improvement of pain VAS score.

The effects of different submerged obstacle longitudinal bars with different arrangement densities on the flow profile and morphology of a scour hole were investigated under clear water conditions. Acoustic Doppler velocimetry(ADV) data were applied to plot the vertical distributions of three-dimensional velocities and turbulent *** experimental results indicate that arrangement density(also can represent porosity),structural material(flexible or solid),and the sidewall effect are the main factors impacting turbulent kinetic energy and the morphology of scour *** flexible vegetation,the maximum turbulent kinetic energy near the bed surface increased with the arrangement *** the same structure,the depth and the magnitude of the lateral expansion of the scour hole also increased with the arrangement *** flexible vegetation reduced the depth of the scour hole because of deflection and arrangement *** larger volumes of scour found in the upstream and middle sections of solid structures compare well to those in flexible *** deflection of porous flexible vegetation transported the turbulent kinetic energy downstream,reduced the turbulent kinetic energy near the sediment bed,and increased the stability of the *** vegetation bars are able to protect the bank and the bed of a river under normal conditions,making them a good alternative design in the management and restoration of rivers.

BACKGROUND Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a documented risk factor for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and progression to end-stage renal disease (ESRD). However, to date there are no reports on the long-term hard endpoints (ESRD and death) of anti-HCV therapy [interferon-based therapy (IBT) or new direct-acting antivirals] in CKD patients. Direct-acting antivirals are not available in Taiwan’s singlepayer national health insurance database currently released for research. Therefore, we hypothesized that a retrospective analysis of the long-term outcomes of IBT in CKD patients will serve as a proxy for direct-acting antivirals to increase our understanding of progression to ESRD following HCV infection. AIM To evaluate the long-term outcomes (ESRD and death) of anti-HCV therapy, especially IBT, in HCV-infected patients with stage 1-5 CKD. METHODS We analyzed 93894 Taiwan Residents adults diagnosed with CKD and without HBV infection. Of these, 4.9% were infected with HCV. Of the 4582 HCV-infected CKD patients, 482 (10.5%) received IBT (treated cohort). They were matched 1:4 with 1928 untreated HCV-infected CKD patients (untreated cohort) by propensity scores and year, which further matched 1:2 by propensity scores with 3856 CKD patients without HCV infection (uninfected cohort). All participants were followed until the occurrence of ESRD, death, or the end of 2012. The association between HCV infection, IBT use, and risks of ESRD and death was analyzed using competing risk analysis. RESULTS Taking the uninfected cohort as a reference, the adjusted hazard ratios for ESRD, after adjusting for competing mortality, were 0.34 (0.14-0.84, P = 0.019) and 1.28 (1.03-1.60, P = 0.029) in the treated and untreated cohorts, respectively. The treated cohort had a 29%(0.54-0.92, P = 0.011) decrease in mortality compared to the untreated cohort, in which the mortality was 31%(1.18-1.45, P < 0.001) higher than in the uninfected cohort.
