Obesity is a critical health issue *** a long time,the concept of drinking tea for health and pleasure is widely *** strain of Andraca theae lives on the tea leaf and the bioactivity of its metabolites in the feces is unknown ***,the objective of this study was to investigate whether the extract of tea(Taiwan Tea Experiment Station No.12(TE))and its metabolites from Andraca theae(TME)could prevent obesity in the high fat diet-induced obese *** results showed that TE had higher concentrations of epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG)and caffeine than that from *** significantly decreased abdominal adipose tissue,especially epididymal fat via increasing preadipocyte factor 1(Pref-1),SRY(sex determining region Y)-box 9(SOX-9)and decreasing peroxisome proliferator-activated receptorγ(PPARγ),CCAAT/enhancer binding protein(C/EBP)β,C/EBPαand C/EBPβprotein *** together,these results suggest that the content of tea polyphenols in TE play an important role for alleviating abdominal fat.

The effects of solution treatment(ST)and cold rolling(CR)on structure and tensile properties of a heavily hot-rolled(HR)Ti–7.5Mo alloy were *** results indicated that,after HR with a one-pass 65%reduction in thickness,the pores in as-received samples substantially disappeared,the misorientation angle distribution became broader,and grain texture shifted toward.Post-HR ST produced an orthorhombicα''-phase with fine needle-type morphology and caused misorientation to narrow down to 55°–65°with substantially random texture;post-ST CR caused misorientation shift toward high-angle side and texture towardand.With an increase in reduction in thickness,α'(102)intensity increased at the expense of two adjacent(112)/(022)α''-*** X-ray diffraction,metallography and electron backscattered diffraction on scanning electron microscope results indicated that pre-ST HR did not affect the formation of the desired low-modulusα''-phase when the alloy was subsequently *** a practical point of view,the most optimal tensile properties may be found in the sample solution-treated at 900°C for 30 min and cold-rolled by a 20%reduction in thickness,which demonstrated a yield strength of 924 MPa,an ultimate tensile strength of 933 MPa,a tensile modulus of 73 GPa,and an elongation of 26%.

The fluorescent reagent salicylaldehyde benzoylhydrazone(SABH) was synthesized and its ionization constants were estimated spectrophotometrically. The fluorescent reaction of this reagent with gallium was studied. Based on this chelation reaction, a spectrofluorimetric method was developed for the determination of gallium in a water medium at pH 3.2. Under these conditions, the Ga SABH complex has excitation and emission maxima at 372 and 455 nm, respectively. The linear range of the method was 0～150 μg/L and the detection limit was 0.36 μg/L of gallium when a standard addition method was used in the assay. The molar ratio of gallium to the reagent was 1∶3. The interference of other ions was studied. The extraction with n butyl acetate from a 6 mol/L hydrochloric acid medium was used to separate Ga from the interfering elements in semiconductor silicon and geological samples, and themethod has been successfully applied to the determination of gallium in these samples.

Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and non-recombining Y chromosome (NRY) are inherited uni-parentally from mother to daughter or from father to son respectively. Their polymorphism has initially been studied throughout populations of the world to demonstrate the "Out of Africa" hypothesis. Here, to correlate the distribution of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) in different populations of insular Asia, we analyze the mtDNA information (lineages) obtained from genotyping of the hyper variable region (HVS I & II) among 1400 individuals from island Southeast Asia (ISEA), Taiwan and Fujian and supplemented with the analysis of relevant coding region polymorphisms. Lineages that best represented a clade (a branch of the genetic tree) in the phylogeny were further analyzed using complete genomic mtDNA sequencing. Finally, these complete mtDNA sequences were used to construct a most parsimonious tree which now constitutes the most up-to-date mtDNA dataset available on ISEA and Taiwan. This analysis has exposed new insights of the evolutionary history of insular Asia and has strong implications in assessing possible correlations with linguistic, archaeology, demography and the NPC distribution in populations within these regions. To obtain a more objective and balanced genetic point of view, slowly evolving biallelic Y single nucleotide polymorphism (Y-SNP) was also analyzed. As in the first step above, the technique was first applied to determine affinities (macro analysis) between populations of insular Asia. Secondly, sixteen Y short tandem repeats (Y-STR) were used as they allow deeper insight (micro analysis) into the relationship between individuals of a same region. Together, mtDNA and NRY allowed a better definition of the relational, demographic, cultural and genetic components that constitute the make up of the present day peoples of ISEA. AIM: To investigate the effect of synbiotics, i.e. probiotics and prebiotics mixture, on the gut microbial ecology and digestive enzyme activities in rats. METHODS: Forty-eight SD rats weighing about 280 g were used in this study. Rats were divided into three groups according to the contents of probiotics and prebiotics mixture in the feed as control, low and high dose groups. The duration of the experiment was 8 wk. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, thefecal Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium counts were significantly increased and the fecal Coliform organism counts were markedly reduced in the low and high dose groups. Concerning the digestive enzyme activity of jejunum, only lactase activity increased in low dose group. However, significant increase of lipase, lactase, sucrase, and isomaltase activities were observed in high dose ***: Intake of low and high dosages of probiotics and prebiotics mixture significantly improved the ecosystem of the intestinal tract by increasing the probiotics population and digestive enzyme activities in rats.
