Temperature Uniformity,Correlations and the Flow Field in Swirling Impinging Jets

Infrared thermography,velocity and impingement pressure measurements alongside numerical modelling are used in this study to resolve(heated)surface temperature distributions of turbulent swirling impinging jets for two Reynolds numbers(Re=11600 and 24600).Whilst building upon earlier discoveries for this same geometry,this paper provides three new contributions:(1)identifying the role of impingement distance(H/D)as a deciding factor in the trade-off between more efficient heat transfer(at high swirl numbers)and achieving better substrate temperature uniformity(lower gradients),(2)developing correlations to predict Nusselt number for swirling and non-swirling cooling jets,and(3)predicting the underlying mixing field in these jets and its interplay with the thermal distributions *** indicate substrate temperature uniformity varies based on H/D and swirl intensity(S)with a significant level of thermal non-uniformity occurring in near-field impingement(H/D=1)at stronger swirl(S=0.59 and 0.74).Four correlations describing the effects of S,Re,and H on the average heat transfer and stagnation heat transfer are developed and yield accuracies of 8%and 12%,*** recirculation near the impingement surface is predicted at H/D=1 for stronger swirl jets which disappears at other substrate *** peak wall shear stress reduces and the flow impingement becomes radially wider at higher H/D and *** turbulence or eddy viscosity regions for non-swirling jets(S=0)are predicted in the shear layer and entrainment regions at H/D=1,but such turbulence is confined to the impingement and wall jet regions for strongly swirling flows.

Role of Air Staging in a Batch-Type Fixed Bed Biomass Combustor under Constant Primary Air

Staged combustion of biomass is the most suitable thermo-chemical conversion for achieving lower gaseous emissions and higher fuel conversion *** a staged fixed bed combustion of biomass,combustion air is supplied in two *** the first stage,primary air is provided below the fuel,whereas in the later stage,secondary air is supplied in the freeboard *** available literature on the effects of air staging(secondary air location) at a constant primary air flow rate on combustion characteristics in a batch-type fixed bed combustor is limited and hence warrants further *** study resolves the effect of air staging,by varying the location of secondary air in the freeboard at five secondary to total air ratios in a batch-type fixed bed *** are reported for the effects of these controlled parameters on fuel conversion rate,overall gaseous emissions(CO_(2),CO and NO_x) and temperature *** fuel used throughout was densified hardwood *** show that a primary freeboard length(distance between fuel bed top and secondary air injection) of200 mm has higher fuel conversion rates and temperatures as well as lower CO emissions,at a secondary to total air ratio of 0.75 as compared to primary freeboard length of 300 ***,NO_x emissions were found to be lower for a primary freeboard length of 300 mm as compared to 200 *** increase in secondary to total air ratio from 0.33 to 0.75 resulted in higher freeboard temperatures and lower CO as well as NO_x *** outcomes of this study will be helpful in the effective design of commercial scale biomass combustors for more efficient and environmentally friendly combustion.

Facile synthesis of samarium and cerium doped double perovskite cobaltite with enhanced dielectric response

The investigation of Sm-Ce doping on structure,conduction,and dielectric response of Bi_(2)Ca_(2-2x)Sm_(x)CexCoO_(6)(x=0.000,0.025,0.050,0.075)(BCSCCO)are *** the specimens were synthesized by a facile synthesis technique named the co-precipitation route.X-ray diffraction(XRD)reveals that BCSCCO crystallizes into one phase with space group P21/*** crystallite size,dislocation density,lattice parameters,lattice strain,unit cell volume,and bulk density were determined using XRD *** structural properties of Bi_(2)Ca_(2)CoO_(6)were examined using calculations based on the density functional *** and experimental values discrepancy is less than 1%.A scanning electron microscope was used for performing a microstructural *** SEm images demonstrate the homogeneous distribution of grains with a range of sizes(0.054-0.090μm).The alternating current(ac)conductivity,dielectric permittivity,and tangent loss were also studied as a function of frequency(20 Hz-3 mHz)at different temperatures(100-500℃).all synthesized samples were examined using non-linear Debye's function to determine their spreading factor and relaxation *** specimen with the lowest crystallite size(∼23 nm)exhibits a high dielectric permittivity(∼3.80×10^(6)).The conduction mechanism was examined in the studied samples with the use of Jonscher's power *** power law indicates that the BCSCCO(x=0.000,0.025)follows correlated barrier hopping,whereas the x=0.050 and 0.075 compositions follow non-overlapping polaron *** studied specimen Bi_(2)Ca_(1.9)0Sm_(0.05)0Ce_(0.05)_(0)CoO_(6)with the highest density(∼5.65 g/cm^(3))displays a high electrical conductivity(∼46.1 S/cm).These findings correspond to those published for ceramics made from calcium cobaltite using solid-state reactions(5.0-26.0 S/cm).

Quadriplegia is a neuromuscular disease that may cause varying degrees of functional loss in trunk and *** such cases,head movements can be used as an alternative communication *** this study,a human–machine interface which is controlled by human head movements is designed and *** proposed system enables users to steer the desired movement direction and to control the speed of an output device by using head *** movements of the users are detected using a 6 DOF ImUs measuring three-axis accelerometer and three-axis *** head movement axes and the Euler angles have been associated with movement direction and speed,*** ensure driving safety,the speed of the system is determined by considering the speed requested by the user and the obstacle distance on the *** this context,fuzzy logic algorithm is employed for closed-loop speed control according to distance sensors and reference speed data.A car model was used as the output device on the machine ***,the wireless communication between human and machine interfaces provides to adapt this system to any remote device or *** implemented system was tested by five *** of the system was evaluated in terms of task completion times and feedback from the subjects about their experience with the *** indicate that the proposed system is easy to use;and the control capability and usage speed increase with user *** control speed is improved with the increase in user experience.

Progress on global hepatitis elimination targets

In 2016,the World Health Assembly adopted a Global Health Sector Strategy on viral hepatitis,with targets set for the years 2020 and 2030 to achieve hepatitis *** main target of hepatitis elimination strategy is to reduce the incidence of hepatitis B virus(HBV)and hepatitis C virus(HCV)by 90%and mortality by 65%in *** last 5 years,the number of people receiving HCV treatment has increased from 1 million to 9.4 million;however,this number is far from the 2030 target of 40 million people receiving HCV *** and HCV incidence rates are down from 1.4 million to 1.1 million annual deaths but this is far from the 2030 target ofmillion *** coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has severely affected the efforts in the fight against *** major donor has committed to investing in the fight against *** is running *** is a need to speed up efforts in the fight against hepatitis to achieve hepatitis elimination by 2030.

Effect of interferon plus ribavirin therapy on hepatitis C virus genotype 3 patients from Pakistan:Treatment response,side effects and future prospective

more than 10 million people are suffering from hepatitis C virus(HCV) in Pakistan,The available treatment option is a combination of interferon and *** response is linked with several factors and also induces a number of side *** searched in *** medi Net and Coogle Scholar for the articles presenting the effect of interferon plus ribavirin therapy on HCV patients from Pakistan,their side effects and future *** major prevalent HCV genotype in Pakistan is *** interferon alpha plus ribavirin showed sustained virological response of 54%-64%while pegylaled interferon alpha plus ribavirin showed sustained virological response of 58%-75%.IL-28 B CC genotype is linked with better sustained virological *** on patients with HCV genotype 3 infections showed no correlation between treatment response and interferon sensitivity determining region *** therapy is linked with a number of side effects like thyroid *** disorders,weight loss,gastrointestinal tract side effects and neuropsychiatric side *** side effects of clubbing of fingers and seizures were also observed in a couple of *** alpha plus ribavirin therapy showed better response rate in HCV genotype 3 patients from Pakistan with number of side effects.A couple of interferon free therapies are light of hope for the patients living with HCV.

Effect of Stitching on Plain and Open-hole Strength of CFRP Laminates

Experimental and analytical investigation is conducted to explore the effects of stitching on plain （without hole） and open-hole compressive and tensile strength of uniweave T300/QY9512 laminates under different environmental conditions （20 ℃/dry and wet, 150 ℃/dry and wet）. Strength performance of stitched composite laminates is also studied using finite element analysis （FEA） model and compared with the experimental results to validate the model. It is found that under similar environmental conditions, the open-hole compressive strength of stitched laminate is decreased and open-hole tensile strength increased as compared to the unstitched laminates. Predicted tensile and compressive strengths are found to be in a good agreement with the test results and the relative error in all cases is less than 15%.

Hepatitis C eradication: A long way to go

Hepatitis C virus(HCV) is a major global health problem with high morbidity and mortality. About 185 million people are living with HCV,of which 80% are living in low and middle income countries. With the development of new highly effective treatments for HCV,it is considered that the eradication of HCV may only be one step away. The major problem with new treatment options is its high price. The price of sofosbuvir-based treatment for one patient in the United States is US$85000-110000,while the actual production cost of a 12 wk direct-acting antiviral regimen is less than US$250. Another major hindrance in HCV eradication is the lack of quality management of blood transfusion screens. Due to the lack of HCV screening,75% of people in the United States with HCV infection are unaware of their positive HCV status. The control of massive HCV pandemic will require a significant financial investment,political will,and support from medical,pharmaceutical,and civil organizations around the globe.

Faster metallic Surface Defect Detection Using Deep Learning with Channel Shuffling

Deep learning has been constantly improving in recent years,and a significant number of researchers have devoted themselves to the research of defect detection *** and recognition of small and complex targets is still a problem that needs to be *** authors of this research would like to present an improved defect detection model for detecting small and complex defect targets in steel *** steel strip production,mechanical forces and environmental factors cause surface defects of the steel ***,the detection of such defects is key to the production of high-quality ***,surface defects of the steel strip cause great economic losses to the high-tech *** far,few studies have explored methods of identifying the defects,and most of the currently available algorithms are not sufficiently ***,this study presents an improved real-time metallic surface defect detection model based on You Only Look Once(YOLOv5)specially designed for small *** the smaller features of the target,the conventional part is replaced with a depthwise convolution and channel shuffle *** assigning weights to Feature Pyramid Networks(FPN)output features and fusing them,increases feature propagation and the network’s characterization *** experimental results reveal that the improved proposed model outperforms other comparable models in terms of accuracy and detection *** precision of the proposed model achieved by mAP@0.5 is 77.5%on the Northeastern University,Dataset(NEU-DET)and 70.18%on the GC10-DET datasets.
