This brief review summarizes recent theoretical and experimental results which predict and establish the existence of quantum droplets(QDs),i.e.,robust two-and three-dimensional(2D and 3D)self-trapped states in Bose-Einstein condensates(BECs),which are stabilized by effective self-repulsion induced by quantum fluctuations around the mean-field(MF)states[alias the Lee-Huang-Yang(LHY)effect].The basic models are presented,taking special care of the dimension crossover,2D→*** reported experimental results,which exhibit stable 3D and quasi-2D QDs in binary BECs,with the inter-component attraction slightly exceeding the MF self-repulsion in each component,and in single-component condensates of atoms carrying permanent magnetic moments,are presented in some *** summary of theoretical results is focused,chiefly,on 3D and quasi-2D QDs with embedded vorticity,as the possibility to stabilize such states is a remarkable *** vortex states are presented both for QDs in free space,and for singular but physically relevant 2D modes pulled to the center by the inverse-square potential,with the quantum collapse suppressed by the LHY effect.

In this paper, using path integral techniques we derive a model-independent formula for the pressure density P（μ, T）（or equivalently the partition function） of Quantum Chromodynamics （QCD）, which gives the equation of state （EOS） of QCD at finite chemical potential and temperature. In this formula the pressure density P（μ, T） consists of two terms： the first term （p（μ, T）｜T=0） is a μ-independent （but T-dependent） constant; the second term is totally determined by G[μ, T]（p, ωn）（the dressed quark propagator at finite μ and finite T）, which contains all the nontrivial μ-dependence. Then, in the framework of the rainbow-ladder approximation of the Dyson-Schwinger （DS） approach and under the approximation of neglecting the μ-dependence of the dressed gluon propagator, we show that G[μ, T]（p,ωn） can be obtained from G[T]（p,ωn ）（the dressed quark propagator at μ= 0） by the substitution ωn →ωn ＋ iμ. This result facilitates numerical calculations considerably. By this result, once C [T] （p, ωn） is known, one can determine the EOS of QCD under the above approximations （up to the additive term p（μ, T）｜T=0）. Finally, a comparison of the present EOS of QCD and the EOS obtained in the previous literatures in the framework of the rainbow-ladder approximation of the DS approach is given. It is found that the EOS given in the previous literatures does not satisfy the thermodynamic relation ρ（μ,T） =δp（μ,T）/δμ｜T.

Medicinal plants provide crucial ecosystem services,especially in developing countries such as China,which harbors diverse endemic medicinal plant species with substantial cultural and economic ***,understanding the patterns and drivers of medicinal plant distribution is ***,few studies have investigated the patterns and drivers of endemic medicinal plants distribution in ***,we linked endemic medicinal plants distribution with possible explanatory variables,i.e.,paleoclimate change,contemporary climate,altitudinal range and ethnic minority human population size at the prefecture city level in *** results show that endemic medicinal plants are concentrated in southern China,especially in southwestern ***,both endemic medicinal plant species richness and the ratio of endemic medicinal plant species richness are negatively associated with glacialinterglacial anomaly in temperature,and positively associated with contemporary precipitation and altitudinal *** addition,we found that endemic medicinal plant species richness is positively associated with ethnic minority population sizes as well as its ratio to the overall population *** findings suggest that the distribution of endemic medicinal plants is determined by multiple ***,our findings stress that dramatic future climate changes and massive anthropogenic activities in southern China pose great challenges to the conservation of China's endemic medicinal plants.

The conventional Markov chain Monte Carlo （MCMC） method is limited to the selected shape and size of proposal distribution and is not easy to start when the initial proposal distribution is far away from the target distribution. To overcome these drawbacks of the conventional MCMC method, two useful improvements in MCMC method, adaptive Metropolis （AM） algorithm and delayed rejection （DR） algorithm, are attempted to be combined. The AM algorithm aims at adapting the proposal distribution by using the generated estimators, and the DR algorithm aims at enhancing the efficiency of the improved MCMC method. Based on the improved MCMC method, a Bayesian amplitude versus offset （AVO） inversion method on the basis of the exact Zoeppritz equation has been developed, with which the P- and S-wave velocities and the density can be obtained directly, and the uncertainty of AVO inversion results has been estimated as well. The study based on the logging data and the seismic data demonstrates the feasibility and robustness of the method and shows that all three parameters are well retrieved. So the exact Zoeppritz-based nonlinear inversion method by using the improved MCMC is not only suitable for reservoirs with strong-contrast interfaces and longoffset ranges but also it is more stable, accurate and antinoise.

The concept of the glial-vascular unit(GVU)was raised recently to emphasize the close associations between brain cells and cerebral vessels,and their coordinated reactions to diverse neurological insults from a“glio-centric”*** is a multicellular structure composed of glial cells,perivascular cells,and perivascular *** component is closely linked,collectively forming the *** central roles of glial and perivascular cells and their multi-level interconnections in the GVU under normal conditions and in central nervous system(CNS)disorders have not been elucidated in ***,we comprehensively review the intensive interactions between glial cells and perivascular cells in the niche of perivascular space,which take part in the modulation of cerebral blood flow and angiogenesis,formation of the blood-brain barrier,and clearance of neurotoxic ***,we discuss dysfunctions of the GVU in various neurological diseases,including ischemic stroke,spinal cord injury,Alzheimer’s disease,and major depression *** addition,we highlight the possible therapies targeting the GVU,which may have potential clinical applications.

Eastern Himalayan Syntaxis(EHS)is a tectonically active region that undergoes continuous geomorphic *** landslides are predominant in this region.A giant landslide called Jiaobunong landslide on the northwestern flank of the EHS were studied and simulated to investigate the formation mechanism,evolutionary process,and failure mechanism of the landside,so that we could better understand the large complex ancient landslides in this *** investigation,geological background analyses,and numerical modeling were conducted to reveal the natural and seismic characteristics,as well as dynamic process of the *** results show that the Jiaobunong landslide was the result of long-term geological and geomorphic ***,river incision,weathering,fault creep,glaciation,and earthquakes play key roles in the formation of *** the huge landslide volume,strong seismicity of the study area,proximity to an active fault,and the need for extra forces to induce landsliding,the Jiaobunong landslide was triggered by a *** numerical simulation based on the discrete element method,the slope dynamic response of the earthquake as well as the mass movement and accumulation process was *** results showed that the landslide movement experienced four stages:initiation phase(0-5 s),acceleration phase(5-35 s),deceleration phase(35-95 s),and the compaction and self-stabilization stage(after 95 s).The rock mass was disintegrated and experienced strong collisions during the *** dammed lake gradually disappeared because of long-term river incision by the overtopping river *** processes play a vital role in the evolution of landforms in the region of EHS.

Scaling behavior of magnitude clusters in aftershock sequence:An example of the Wenchuan Earthquake,China

The Gutenberg-Richter and Omori Laws, which are generally used to characterize the temporal distribution of aftershock, failed to reflect the statistic properties of climatic outbreak of aftershock energy. Based on a new concept of magnitude clusters describing the fluctuation of aftershock energy release of the Wenchuan Earthquake, we discovered that the pattern of the continuous high-magnitude aftershock follows a power-law rather than a non-Poisson distribution. This suggests that the after-shocks with high magnitudes are statistically clustered. We then divided the aftershock sequences into three sections and demonstrated that though the probability of strong outbreaks decreased with time, there exists a high possibility of the occurrence of isolated high-magnitude aftershocks in the future. Based on self-organized criticality theory, the mechanisms of the power-law pattern of magnitude clusters are discussed. This discovery may be used to guide future aftershock predication and the associated post-disaster reconstruction.
