Background:The serum vitamin D level varies widely by population,and studies have linked vitamin D levels with the risk of type 2.diabetes mellitus(T2.M).However,the relationship is inconsistent and the impact of vitamin D on T2.M among East Chinese adults is *** study aimed to investigate the association between serum 2.-hydroxyvitamin D(2.[OH]D)levels and the risk of T2.M and eva{2.ated whether the association is modified by genetic ***:In the survey on Prevalence in East China for Metabolic Diseases and Risk Factors(sPECT-China)cohort,1862.participants free of T2.M at baseline were inc{2.ded.A weighted genetic risk score was calculated with 2. variants associated with *** logistic models were used to examine the association of serum 2.(OH)D and genetic risk with ***:After a 5-year follow-up,132.cases of T2.M were *** observed no significant association between quartiles of serum 2.(OH)D and T2.M risk after multivariable adjustment(χ^(2.=0.571,P_(for trend)=0.42.).Compared to those in the lowest quartile of 2.(OH)D,the odds ratios(ORs)(95%confidence interval[CI])for participants with increased quartiles were 1.2.(0.74-2.2.),1.35(0.77-2.36),and 1.2.(0.72.2.2.),*** observed a positive association of glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c)with 2.(OH)D at baseline(β=1.752.P=0.001)and after follow-up(β=1.385,P=0.003),and a negative association of ln conversion homeostasis model assessment(HOMA)-βwith 2.(OH)D at baseline(β=-0.982.P=0.02.).There was no significant interaction between 2.(OH)D and diabetes genetic predisposition on the risk of T2.M(χ^(2.=2.710,P_(for interaction)=0.100).The lowest OR(95%CI)of T2.M was among participants with low genetic risk and the highest quartile of 2.(OH)D(0.17[0.05-0.62.).Conc{2.sion:serum 2.(OH)D may be irrelevant to the risk of incident T2.M among East Chinese adults regardless of genetic predisposition.

Traumatic spinal cord injury is potentially catastrophic and can lead to permanent disability or even *** has the largest population of patients with traumatic spinal cord *** studies of traumatic spinal cord injury in China have mostly been regional in scope;national-level studies have been *** the best of our knowledge,no national-level study of treatment status and economic burden has been *** retrospective study aimed to examine the epidemiological and clinical features,treatment status,and economic burden of traumatic spinal cord injury in China at the national *** inc{2.ded 13,465 traumatic spinal cord injury patients who were injured between January 2.13 and December 2.18 and treated in 30 hospitals in 11 provinces/municipalities representing all geographical divisions of *** epidemiological and clinical features,treatment status,and total and daily costs were *** in the percentage of traumatic spinal cord injuries among all hospitalized patients and among patients hospitalized in the orthopedic department and cost of care were assessed by annual percentage change using the Joinpoint Regression *** percentage of traumatic spinal cord injuries among all hospitalized patients and among patients hospitalized in the orthopedic department did not significantly change overall(annual percentage change,-0.5%and 2.1%,respectively).A total of 10,053(74.7%)patients underwent *** 2.8%of patients who underwent surgery did so within 2. hours of injury.A total of 2.05(14.9%)patients were treated with high-dose(≥500 mg)methylprednisolone sodium succinate/methylprednisolone(MPss/MP);615(4.6%)received it within 8 *** total cost for acute traumatic spinal cord injury decreased over the study period(-4.7%),while daily cost did not significantly change(1.0%increase).Our findings indicate that public health initiatives should aim at improving hospitals’ability to complete early surgery within 2. ho

Objective To acquire oval cells （progenitor stem cells ） from adult rat liver of different models including diabetic rats. Methods Thirty sprague-Dawley （ sD ） rats were divided into 5 groups randomly： control, 2.acetylaminofluorene （ 2.AAF ）, 2.AAF ＋ partial hepatectomy （ PH ）, 2.AAF ＋ carbon tetrachloride （ CCl4 ）, and diabetic groups. As two-step collagenase perfusion protocol of seglen, oval cells were isolated by Percoll density gradient centrifugation. Thy1. 1 positive cells were sorted by flow cytometry, and then cultured in Dulbecco＇s minimum Eagle＇s medium （DMEM）. Immunofluorescence staining was applied to labelling Thyl. 1. Results Different rates of Thy1.1 positive oval cells were found in different rat model groups ： 0. 5 % in 2.AAF, 0. 3% in 2.AAF ＋ PH, 0. 2. in 2.AAF ＋ CCl4, 0. 1% in diabetic, and 0. 0% in control. Isolated cells adhered to plate with fusiform or polygon as epithelial cells. Conclusion Progenitor stem cells exist in injured liver tissue including those from diabetic rats.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease accompanied by persistent multiarticular synovitis and cartilage degradation. The present clinical treatments are limited to disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) and aims to relieve pain and control the inflammation of RA. Despite considerable advances in the research of RA, the employment of current clinical procedure is enormous, hindered by systemic side effect, frequent administration, tolerance from long-lasting administration, and high costs. Emerging immunoengineering-based strategies, such as multiple immune-active nanotechnologies via mechanism-based immunology approaches, have been developed to improve specific targeting and to reduce adverse reactions for RA treatments. Here, we review recent studies in immunoengineering for the treatment of RA. The prospect of future immunoengineering treatment for RA has also been discussed.

Background Lymphocyte function and homeostasis is associated with immune defence to *** of lymphocytes might be a considerably important component which has an impact on immunity to infections in people with *** aim of this study was to explore the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway of lymphocyte in diabetic *** sixty patients with type 2.diabetes mellitus and fifty healthy vo{2.nteers were inc{2.ded in this *** V and propidiumiodide （Pl） were joined in the isolated lymphocytes and the rate of lymphocyte apoptosis was calculated with flow *** of the lymphocytes was done using transmission electron microscopy; mitochondria had been extracted and then mitochondrial membrane potential （MMP） was detected to assess mitochondrial function; the mRNA level of Bcl-2.cytochrome c （Cyt-C）,caspase-9 and caspase-3 were analyzed by real-time reverse transcriptionpolymerase chain reaction （RT-PCR）.Results Apoptosis rate of lymphocyte was significantly higher in diabetic group than that in normal control group （P ＜0.05）.Transmission electron microscopy showed lymphocyte shrinkage and breakage,chromatin condensation and less mitochondria; a fall in MMP levels was also evident; Bcl-2.concentration was reduced and the expressions of caspase-9,caspase-3 and Cyt-C were elevated （P ＜0.05） in diabetic *** The rate of lymphocyte apoptosis was significantly higher in type 2.diabetic patients than that in normal *** apoptosis pathway may play a very important role in decreasing function of lymphocyte in diabetes.

Relationship between Free Thyroxine and Islet Beta-cell Function in Euthyroid subjects

Thyroid hormones have a specific effect on glucose-induced insulin secretion from the *** aimed to investigate the association between euthyroid hormones and islet betacell function in general population and non-treated type 2.diabetes mellitus(T2.M)patients.A total of 5089 euthyroid participants(including 4601 general population and 488 non-treated T2.M patients)were identified from a cross-sectional survey on the prevalence of metabolic diseases and risk factors in East China from February 2.14 to June *** indices,biochemical parameters,and thyroid hormones were *** with general population,non-treated T2.M patients exhibited higher total thyroxine(TT4)and free thyroxine(FT4)levels but lower ratio of free triiodothyronine(T3):T4(Psitive relationship with free T3:T4 in both groups even after adjusting for age,body mass index(BMI)and *** analyzed by quartiles of FT4 or free T3:T4,there were significantly decreased trend of HOMA-β going with the higher FT4 and lower free T3:T4 in both *** regression analysis showed that FT4 but not FT3 and free T3:T4 was negatively associated with HOMA-β no matter in general population or T2.M patients,which was independent of age,BMI,smoking,hypertension and lipid ***4 is independently and negatively associated with islet beta-cell function in euthyroid *** hormone even in reference range could play an important role in the function of pancreatic islets.
