LSTM Network-Based Adaptation Approach for Dynamic Integration in Intelligent End-Edge-Cloud Systems

Edge computing, which migrates compute-intensive tasks to run on the storage resources of edge devices, efficiently reduces data transmission loss and protects data privacy. However, due to limited computing resources and storage capacity, edge devices fail to support real-time streaming data query and processing. To address this challenge, first, we propose a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network-based adaptive approach in the intelligent end-edge-cloud system. Specifically, we maximize the Quality of Experience (QoE) of users by automatically adapting their resource requirements to the storage capacity of edge devices through an event mechanism. Second, to reduce the uncertainty and non-complete adaption of the edge device towards the user’s requirements, we use the LSTM network to analyze the storage capacity of the edge device in real time. Finally, the storage features of the edge devices are aggregated to the cloud to re-evaluate the comprehensive capability of the edge devices and ensure the fast response of the user devices during the dynamic adaptation matching process. A series of experimental results show that the proposed approach has superior performance compared with traditional centralized and matrix decomposition based approaches.

A 304 stainless steel with the addition of 0.27 wt% Ag was found to exhibit excellent antibacterial properties. Based on Thermo-Calc calculation, a special heat treatment was introduced to obtain Ag precipitate in this steel. Anti- bacterial experiments show that the alloy can kill the adhering Escherichia coli effectively. Since the Ag element plays a key role in killing the adhered bacteria, microstructures of Ag and Ag-rich compounds were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Ag-rich compounds with the size of a few microns were found to be embedded within the matrix and along grain boundaries, Moreover, pure Ag particles with a lattice parameter of 0.422 nm were found within the austenite matrix. The orientation relationship between the matrix and Ag particles was identified. Nano-sized Ag particles were precipitated during heat treatment, and the interfacial energy between Ag precipitates and matrix was determined by Becket＇s model calculation.

Trichomes are specialized structures developed from epidermal cells and can protect plants against biotic and abiotic *** cover carrots during the generative ***,the morphology of the carrot trichomes and candidate genes controlling the formation of trichomes are still *** study found that carrot trichomes were nonglandular and unbranched hairs distributed on the stem,leaf,petiole,pedicel,and seed of *** analysis of a trichome mutant with sparse and short trichomes(sst)and a wild type(wt)with long and dense trichomes on carrot stems was conducted.A total of 15396 genes containing nonsynonymous mutations in sst were obtained,including 42 trichomerelated *** also analyzed the transcriptome of the trichomes on secondary branches when these secondary branches were 10 cm long between wt and sst and obtained 6576 differentially expressed genes(DEGs),including 24 trichome-related ***-PCR validation exhibited three significantly up-regulated DEGs,20 significantly downregulated,and one with no *** considered both the resequencing and transcriptome sequencing analyses and found that 12 trichome-related genes that were grouped into five transcription factor families containing nonsynonymous mutations and significantly down-regulated in ***,these genes are potentially promising candidate genes whose nonsynonymous mutations and down-regulation may result in scarce and short trichomes mutation on carrot stems in sst.

Calibration of Gridded Wind Speed Forecasts Based on Deep Learning

The challenges of applying deep learning(DL) to correct deterministic numerical weather prediction(NWP) biases with non-Gaussian distributions are discussed in this *** is known that the DL UNet model is incapable of correcting the bias of strong winds with the traditional loss functions such as the MSE(mean square error),MAE(mean absolute error),and WMAE(weighted mean absolute error).To solve this,a new loss function embedded with a physical constraint called MAE_MR(miss ratio) is *** performance of the UNet model with MAE_MR is compared to UNet traditional loss functions,and statistical post-processing methods like Kalman filter(KF) and the machine learning methods like random forest(RF) in correcting wind speed biases in gridded forecasts from the ECMWF high-resolution model(HRES) in East China for lead times of 1–7 *** addition to MAE for full wind speed,wind force scales based on the Beaufort scale are derived and *** to raw HRES winds,the MAE of winds corrected by UNet(MAE_MR) improves by 22.8% on average at 24–168 h,while UNet(MAE),UNet(WMAE),UNet(MSE),RF,and KF improve by 18.9%,18.9%,17.9%,13.8%,and 4.3%,*** with MSE,MAE,and WMAE shows good correction for wind forces 1–3 and 4,but negative correction for 6 or ***(MAE_MR) overcomes this,improving accuracy for forces 1–3,4,5,and 6 or higher by 11.7%,16.9%,11.6%,and 6.4% over HRES.A case study of a strong wind event further shows UNet(MAE_MR) outperforms traditional post-processing in correcting strong wind biases.

The interaction of an atom with an intense laser field provides an important approach to explore the ultrafast electron dynamics and extract the information of the atomic and molecular structures with unprecedented attosecond temporal and angstrom spatial resolution. To well understand the strong field atomic processes, numerous theoretical methods have been developed, including solving the time-dependent Schr ?dinger equation(TDSE), classical and semiclassical trajectory method, quantum S-matrix theory within the strong-field approximation, etc. Recently, an alternative and complementary quantum approach, called Bohmian trajectory theory, has been successfully used in the strong-field atomic physics and an exciting progress has been achieved in the study of strong-field phenomena. In this paper, we provide an overview of the Bohmian trajectory method and its perspective on two strong field atomic processes, i.e., atomic and molecular ionization and high-order harmonic generation, respectively.

The mechanical behavior of sand is very complex, and depends on factors including confining pressure, density, and drainage condition. A soil mass can be contractive or dilative when subjected to shear loading, and eventually reaches an ultimate state, referred to as the critical state in soil mechanics. Conventional approach to explore the mechanical behavior of sand mainly relies on the experimental tests in laboratory. This paper gives an alternative view to this subject using discrete element method (DEM), which has attracted much attention in recent years. The implementation of the DEM is carried out by a series of numerical tests on granular assemblies with varying initial densities and confining pressures, under different test configurations. The results demonstrate that such numerical simulations can produce correct responses of the sand behavior in general, including the critical state response, as compared to experimental observations. In addition, the DEM can further provide details of the microstructure evolutions during shearing processes, and the resulting induced anisotropy can be fully captured and quantified in the particle scale.
