Complement use of Chinese herbal medicine after percutaneous coronary intervention: a prospective observational study

BACKGROUND Chinese herbal medicine is widely used as a complement or alternative treatment in coronary artery disease(CAD)patients after percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)in *** compared the incidence of the major adverse cardi-ovascular event(MACE)of CAD patients with or without the complement use of Chinese herbal medicine after *** In this prospective,observational study that was conducted from September 2016 to August 2019 in Fuwai Hospital(China),we followed up consecutive patients who received PCI treatment for two *** was defined as the composite all-cause mortality,revascularization,and myocardial infarction(MI)and was compared between those using(integrative medicine group)or those not using Chinese herbal medicine as an additional treatment to standard Western medicine,with unadjusted(Kaplan-Meier curves)and risk-adjusted(multivariable Cox regression)*** A total of 5942 patients after PCI were enrolled in this study,and 5453 patients were included in the final analysis(4189[76.8%]male;mean age:61.9±9.9%years).During the follow-ups,2932(53.8%)patients used only Western medicine while 2521(46.2%)patients had used Chinese herbal medicine as an additional treatment to standard Western *** in the integrative medicine group(IM group)were older than the Western medicine group(WM group),had more females and less pre-vious *** incidence of MACE was 15.3%(449/2932)in WM group and 11.54%(291/2521)in IM *** regression ana-lysis showed that cumulative incidence of MACE was 27%lower in patients of the IM group than those in WM group(hazard ra-tio=0.73;95%CI:0.63-0.85;P<0.0001).CONCLUSIONS For CAD patients after PCI treatment,complement use of Chinese herbal medicine is associated with a lower 2-year MACE *** prospective studies are warranted to provide higher levels of benefit evidence in these pa-tients.

Qishen capsule safely boosts cardiac function and angiogenesis via the MEK/ERK pathway in a rat myocardial infarction model

Background Qishen(QS) capsules, a Traditional Chinese Medicine, has been widely used to treat coronary heart disease in China. However, evidence of its effectiveness remains unclear. Methods To explore whether QS has cardioprotective efficacy and/or promotes angiogenesis after myocardial infarction (MI), we performed experiments in a preclinical rat MI model. One month after left anterior descending coronary artery ligation, the rats received either QS solution (0.4 g/kg/day) or the same volume of saline by intragastric injection for four weeks. Results Echocardiographic and hemodynamic analyses demonstrated relatively preserved cardiac function in MI rats administered QS. Indeed, QS treatment was associated with reduced infarct scar size and heart weight index, and these beneficial effects were responsible for enhancing angiogenesis. Mechanistically, QS treatment increased phosphorylation of protein kinase B (Akt) and downregulated phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular-regulated kinase (MEK/ERK). Conclusions QS therapy can improve the cardiac function of rats after MI by an underlying mechanism involving increased angiogenesis, at least partially via activation of the Akt signaling pathway and inhibition of MEK/ERK phosphorylation.

A dual-site Fe-based catalyst for efficient ammonia synthesis under mild conditions

Achieving green ammonia （NH3） synthesis requires developing effective catalysts under mild ***,the competitive adsorption of N2and H2,as well as the strong binding of N-containing intermediates on the catalyst,greatly inhibits the active sites for efficient ***,we constructed a series of ZrH2-modified Fe catalysts with dual active sites to address these issues and realized efficient NH3synthesis under mild *** study shows that ZrH2can not only provide active sites for H2activation but also transfer electrons to Fe sites for accelerating *** interaction between Fe and ZrH2over 40ZrH2-Fe leads to a decrease in work function and a downward shift of the d-band center,which is conducive to N2activation and NH3desorption,*** utilization of distinct sites for activating different reactants can avoid the competitive adsorption of N2and H2,leading to excellent NH3synthesis activity of the 40 wt.%ZrH2-mediated Fe *** a result,40ZrH2-Fe exhibits a high NH3synthesis rate of 23.3 mmol g-1cath-1at 400°C and 1 MPa and robust stability during100 h time-on-stream.

Background:Rosa chinensis *** Rosa rugosa *** not only of ornamental value,but also edible flowers and the flower buds have been listed in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia as traditional *** two plants have some differences in efficacy,but the flower buds are easily confused for similar *** addition,large-scale cultivation of ornamental rose flowers may lead to a decrease in the effective components of medicinal ***,it is necessary to study the chemical composition and make quality evaluation of Rosae Chinensis Flos(Yueji)and Rosae Rugosae Flos(Meigui).Methods:In this study,40 batches of samples including Meigui and Yueji from different regions in China were collected to establish high-performance liquid chromatography ***,the fingerprints data was analyzed using principal component analysis,hierarchical cluster analysis,and partial least squares discriminant analysis analysis chemometrics to obtain information on intergroup differences,and non-targeted metabolomic techniques were applied to identify and compare chemical compositions of samples which were chosen from groups with large *** compounds were screened by orthogonal partial least-squares discriminant analysis and S-plot,and finally multi-component quantification was performed to comprehensively evaluate the quality of Yueji and ***:The similarity between the fingerprints of 40 batches roses and the reference print R was 0.73 to 0.93,indicating that there were similarities and differences between the *** principal component analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis of fingerprints data,the samples from different origins and varieties were intuitively divided into four *** least-squares discriminant analysis analysis showed that Meigui and Yueji cluster into two categories and the model was reliable.A total of 89 compounds were identified by high resolution mass spectrometry,mainly were flavonoids and flavon

One-pot degradation of cellulose into carbon dots and organic acids in its homogeneous aqueous solution

As the abundant biopolymer, cellulose can be used as a feedstock for chemicals and materials. Effective conversion of cellulose by simple processes is a key point. Degradation of cellulose in its homogeneous solution is attractive for the molecular chains are free and spread. Here,microcrystalline cellulose was first dissolved in aqueous solution of Na OH and urea, and then hydrothermal reaction was carried out at various temperature and time. Fluorescence carbon dots(CDs) were generated accompanied with six organic acids: oxalic acid, formic acid, malonic acid, lactic acid, acetic acid, and fumaric acid. The yields of all organic acids and CDs, and the fluorescence quantum yield(QY) of CDs were studied at different reaction conditions. It was found that the maximum yield of organic acids and CDs are 80.1% and 6.03%, respectively, and the highest QY of the CDs is 10.9%. Fluorescence studies reveal that the as-prepared CDs has efficient selectivity and sensitivity toward iron ions in acidic condition, indicating it is a potential fluorescent sensor to the detection of Fe3+. Importantly, it provides a panorama to summary the degradation routes of cellulose in its homogeneous aqueous solution with both organic molecules and CDs as products.
