Exercise preconditioning alleviates ischemia-induced memory deficits by increasing circulating adiponectin

Cerebral ischemia is a major health risk that requires preventive approaches in addition to drug *** exercise enhances neurogenesis and synaptogenesis,and has been widely.used for functional rehabilitation after *** this study,we determined whether exercise training before disease onset can alleviate the severity of cerebral *** also examined the role of exercise-induced circulating factors in these *** mice were subjected to 14 days of treadmill exercise training before surgery for middle cerebral artery *** found that this exercise pre-conditioning strategy effectively attenuated brain infarct area,inhibited gliogenesis,protected synaptic proteins,and improved novel object and spatial memory *** analysis showed that circulating adiponectin plays a critical role in these preventive effects of *** activation of adiponectin receptors by Adipo Ron mimicked the effects of exercise,while inhibiting receptor activation abolished the exercise *** summary,our results suggest a crucial role of circulating adiponectin in the effects of exercise pre-conditioning in protecting against cerebral ischemia and supporting the health benefits of exercise.

Enantioselective iridium-catalyzed allylic substitution with a Reformatsky reagent: direct construction of β-stereogenic homoallylic esters

The Reformatsky reagent derived from ethyl bromoacetate circumvents the challenge associated with the direct regio-and enantioselective iridium-catalyzed allylic alkylation with an unstabilized aliphatic ester enolate. Notably, this work represents the first example of using a Reformatsky reagent in a metal-allyl reaction, which permits the direct construction of enantioenriched β-stereogenic homoallylic esters without preactivation of the pronucleophile or post-reaction modification of the product(e.g., thermal decarboxylation of a 1,3-dicarbonyl). Moreover, the process allows the coupling of a broad range of sterically and electronically diverse electrophiles bearing aryl, heteroaryl and alkenyl derivatives, including the significantly more challenging alkyl-substituted allylic carbonates. The versatility of the ester product is exemplified by a series of functional group manipulations and the development of a concise and efficient enantioselective total synthesis of the natural product,(+)-descurainolide A. Finally, mechanistic studies indicate that the zinc enolate behaves as a soft nucleophile that undergoes outer-sphere alkylation.

Anti-cancer activities of S-allylmercaptocysteine from aged garlic

While most types of malignancies remain recalcitrant to treatment, application of natural products or their analogs in daily life has offered some hopes as an effective prophylaxis against cancer onset and progression in the past decades. Emerging evidence supports a link between garlic consumption and decreased cancer incidence. Notably, aged garlic extract(AGE) exhibits stronger anti-cancer activities than that of fresh garlic, by virtue of enrichment of several AGE-specific organosulfur compounds, including S-allylmercaptocysteine(SAMC). In this review, we summarize the up-to-date mechanistic pathways associated with the anti-proliferative, anti-metastatic and pro-apoptotic effects of SAMC in various cancer models. Based upon the proven safety and improved understanding on its anti-neoplastic properties, SAMC has gained recognition as a promising daily food supplement for cancer prevention or management.

The main result of this article is an extension of the Second Main Theorem,of Halburd and Korhonen,for meromorphic functions of finite *** result replaces the counting function of the ramification divisor Nramf(r)in the classical Second Main Theorem by the counting function of a finite difference divisor Npair(r).In this article,the Second Main Theorem of Halburd and Korhonen is extended to the case of holomorphic maps into Pn of finite order.

On limit behavior of quasi-local mass for ellipsoids at spatial infinity

We discuss the spatial limit of the quasi-local mass for certain ellipsoids in an asymptotically flat static spherically symmetric *** ellipsoids are not nearly round but they are of interest as an admissible parametrized foliation defining the Arnowitt–Deser–Misner *** Hawking mass of this family of ellipsoids tends to-∞.In contrast,we show that the Hayward mass converges to a finite ***,a positive mass type theorem is *** limit of the mass has a uniform positive lower bound no matter how oblate these ellipsoids *** result could be extended for asymptotically Schwarzschild *** numerical simulation in the Schwarzschild spacetime illustrates that the Hayward mass is monotonically increasing near infinity.

In recent years,the pharmacological benefits of herbal extracts have been revisited for their potential neuroprotective effects in *** polysaccharides extracted from the fruits of Lycium barbarum L.,or Lycium barbarum polysaccharides,exert their anti-aging effect through reducing oxidative stress,modulating the immune response,enhancing neuronal responses,and promoting *** therapeutic efficacy of Lycium barbarum polysaccharides in preserving retinal ganglion cells and their functions was demonstrated in a range of experimental models of optic *** include the acute and chronic ocular hypertension models,the partial optic nerve transection model,and the ischemic-reperfusion injuries *** on these findings,Lycium barbarum polysaccharides appear to be a good candidate to be developed as a neuroprotective agent for treating multifactorial *** review aims to present a comprehensive review on the latest preclinical evidence on the pre-and post-treatment benefits of Lycium barbarum polysaccharides in retinal ganglion cell *** possible mechanisms of Lycium barbarum polysaccharides mediating retinal ganglion cell neuroprotection will also be ***,the potential research gaps in the effective translation of Lycium barbarum polysaccharides treatment into clinical glaucoma management will be discussed.

Molecular dynamics(MD)simulation is a computational technique that analyzes the movement of a system of particles over a given *** can provide detailed information about the fluctuations and conformational changes of biomolecules at the atomic level over *** recent years,MD has been widely applied to the discovery of peptides and peptide-like molecules that may serve as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)*** review summarizes recent advances in such explorations,focusing on four protein targets:angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2),spike protein(S protein),main protease(M^(pro)),and papain-like protease(PL^(pro)).These four proteins are important druggable targets of SARS-CoV-2 because of their roles in viral entry,maturation,and infectivity of the virus.A review of the literature revealed that ACE2,S protein,and M^(pro) have received more attention in MD research than PL^(pro).Inhibitors of the four targets identified by MD simulations included peptides derived from food and other bioresources,peptides designed using the targets as templates,and peptide-like molecules retrieved from *** of the inhibitors have yet to be validated in experimental assays for ***,the role of MD simulation as an efficient tool in the early stages of anti-SARS-CoV-2 drug discovery agents has been demonstrated.

Effectiveness of an audit programme for dyslipidaemia management in a primary care setting in Macao:a quality improvement study

Objective The objective of this study was to test the effectiveness of an audit programme for dyslipidaemia management in a primary care setting in *** A quality improvement study based on an evaluation of a before-after intervention trial was conducted in *** comprising feedback from an audit,general practitioner(GP)training via interactive workshops and one-on one case discussions were *** primary outcome measure was the proportion of patients with reasonable management of dyslipidaemia,and the secondary outcome measure was the proportion of patients with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)meeting the target recommended by the Adult Treatment Panel III *** This study was conducted at the Sao Lourenco Health Center,one of the health centres in the Macao primary care system;this centre provides primary care services to one-tenth of the residents of *** All GPs who worked in the Sao Lourenco Health Center participated in the *** systematically reviewed 100 patient records from each participating physician’s patient *** total,1200 and 1100 patient records were reviewed before and after the intervention,*** At baseline,390(43.5%)patients were eligible for statin therapy,while 411(47.7%)patients were eligible for statin therapy in the reaudit group(p=0.08).After intervention,the proportion of patients with reasonable management of dyslipidaemia increased from 83.9%to 88.5%(p=0.005),and the proportion of eligible patients with LDL-C levels meeting the target increased from 55.1%to 65%(p=0.004).Conclusions The audits and feedback significantly improved dyslipidaemia management in the Macao primary care setting.
