The hat shock transcription factor HSF1 inthe yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae regulates a wide range of genes and functions in diverse cellular reactions. To investigate the physiological response of HSF1 inthe presence of menadione (MD) in S. cerevisiae KNU 5377y3, wild-type (k3wt) and isogenic hsf1 mutant (k3h1) cells were introduced. HSF1 was induced when k3wt cells were exposed to the superoxide-generating agent MD and k3h1 cells were hypersensitive to MD. Under MD stress, k3h1 cells down-regulated the expression of metabolic enzymes (Hxk, Fba1, Pgk1, Eno2, and Adh1), antioxidant enzymes (Trx2 and porin), and molecular chaperones and their cofactors (Hsp104, Ssb1, Hsp60, Hsp42, Hsp26, Hsp12, Cpr1, and Sti1). In addition, k3h1 cells increased cellular hydroperoxide levels and protein carbonylation under MD stress as compared to k3wt cells. However, there was a moderate difference in the wild-type (b3wt) and mutant (b3h1) cells derived from S. cerevisiae S288Cunder the same conditions. Thus, these results show that HSF1 is an important component of the stress response system, acting as an activator of cell rescue genes in S. cerevisiae KNU5377y3, and its expression protects the cells from MD-induced oxidative damage by maintaining redox homeostasis and proteostasis in the presence of MD.

It is a challenge to confirm chronic mesenteric ischemia(CMI) as a cause of gastrointestinal(GI) symptoms such as postprandial epigastric bloating,anorexia,and debilitating weight *** intervention for CMI has been gaining popularity because of the high morbidity associated with surgical ***,in EVI for superior mesenteric artery(SMA) occlusion,the transfemoral approach is limited by difficulty in coaxial alignment of the guiding catheter,which leads to insufficient back-up ***,we report on a 58-year-old male patient with chronic total occlusion of the SMA,which was successfully revascularized by endovascular intervention via the left radial *** endovascular therapy may be another treatment option for the treatment of CMI.

AIM: To study the mechanism of Je-Chun-Jun (JCJ)-inducing the apoptosis of the human cervical carcinoma, HeLa cells. METHODS: The cell viability was assessed using MTT assay. The optical density was measured at 570 nm. The caspase activity was measured using 50 mmol/L of fluorogenic substrate, AC-DEVD-AMC (caspase-3), AC-VEID-AMC (caspase-8) or AC-LEHD-AFC (caspase-9). To confirm the expression of proteins, Western blotting was performed. To detect the characteristic of apoptosis chromatin condensation, HeLa cells were stained with Hoechst 33258 in the presence of JCJ. For the cell cycle analysis, HeLa cells were incubated with Propidium iodide (PI) solution. Fluorescence intensity of cell cycle was measured using flow cytometry system. RESULTS: The loss of viability occurred following the exposure of 10 g/L JCJ. Cells treated with 10 g/L JCJ for 3 d exhibited the apoptotic morphology (brightly blue-fluorescent condensed nuclei by Hoechst 33258-staining) and the reduction of cell volume. Cells incubated

Commercial broilers （CB） have been generally reared in Korea; however, Korean native chicken （KNC） is also bred for meat production. This study was performed to evaluate the behavioral characteristics of Korean native chickens （Han-hyup） and commercial broilers （Ross 308）. In the study, KNC and CB were separately housed in 4 pens （30 birds/pen）, so there were two replicates for each treatment. Chickens were observed by video recording throughout the 8 weeks growth period for 12 hours each day. The time spent （standing, sitting, and walking） and frequencies （drinking, feeding, preening, dust-bathing, flapping, aggressive pecking, and ground pecking） of chicken＇s behavior were evaluated. Behavior was compared between the earlier period （1 to 4 weeks） and the later one （5 to 8 weeks） to know the changes in each behavior as they matured. Results showed that more time was spent on standing by KNC than CB. On the contrary, time spent for sitting behavior was less in KNC. The frequencies of most behaviors in KNC were higher than CB in the earlier period except feeding and dust-bathing. The greatest decreasing behavior as they matured was walking in both treatments, and a large number of commercial broilers did not walk, but instead rested as days passed. Feeding behavior of CB was more frequent in the earlier stage, but gradually reversed in the later period. The active behaviors such as fe, eding, preening, pecking, flapping and aggressive pecking in the KNC group were higher than the CB group, declining as time passed in both treatments; except dust-bathing that showed opposite pattern. These results were showed that KNC are much more active compared to CB, especially for walking, preening and pecking behavior. This may conclude that they may have fewer tendencies to develop potential health problems like dermatitis or even disease like sudden death syndrome.

A mechanics model is developed for the contact radius of stamps with pyramid tips in transfer *** is important to the realization of reversible control of adhesion,which has many important applications,such as climbing robots,medical tapes,and transfer printing of *** contact radius is shown to scale linearly with the work of adhesion between the stamp and the contacting surface,and inversely with the plane-strain modulus of the stamp. It also depends on the cone angle and tip radius of the stamp,but is essentially independent of details of the tip geometry.

In this work, we report the fabrication and cell affinity studies of the poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/hyaluronic acid (HA) cross-linked nanofibers via electrospinning and post cross-linking. FT-IR and TGA analysis demonstrate that HA is not influenced by acid environment such as HCl vapor during cross-linking, and well incorporated into PVA nanofibers. Swelling behavior and cell adhesion of the PVA/HA hydrogel nanofibers are investigated and compared with pure PVA hydrogel nanofibers. It is expected that the nanofibrous PVA/HA hydrogel fibers could be a promising scaffold for cell culture and tissue engineering applications.

目的探讨基于双源CT单能量成像技术在心肌病病人心肌延迟强化评估中的应用价值。材料与方法这项前瞻性研究经所在机构伦理委员会批准,所有入组病人均签署了知情同意书。40例心肌病病人[男27例,女13例,年龄22;1岁,平均（56±15）岁]接受了心脏MRI和双源CT检查。对双源CT数据采用常规（120 k V）和单能量（60 ke V、70 ke V和80 ke V）重建,得到4组影像。采用Friedman配对检验比较多组影像间的主观质量评分、对比噪声比（CNR）和硬化束伪影。以心脏MR成像结果为参考标准,利用logistic回归分析评估双源CT延迟强化的诊断效能和对心肌病分类的预测能力。使用Bland-Altman方法评估心脏MRI和CT延迟强化之间的一致性。结果与传统CT相比,70 ke V单能量CT影像的主观质量（平均分,3.38±0.54和3.15±0.43;P=0.006 7）和CNR（平均值4.26±1.38和3.93±1.33;P=0.004 7）更高,硬化束伪影更低（平均值3.47±1.56和4.15±1.67;P=0.000 1）。与常规CT相比,70 ke V单能量CT影像延迟强化的诊断效能更高[敏感度,94.6%∶90.4%（P=0.003 2）;特异度,96.0%∶94.0%（P=0.0031）;准确度,95.6%∶92.7%（P=0.000 1）],同时对心肌病分类的预测能力也更高[心内膜下型,91.5%∶84.3%（P=0.011 1）;心外膜型,94.3%∶73.5%（P=0.000 1）;透壁型,93.0%∶77.7%（P=0.001 8）;心肌间质型,85.4%∶69.2%（P=0.004 7）;斑片状型,84.4%∶78.4%（P=0.151 4）]。对于延迟强化的定量评估,70 ke V单能量CT影像显示的偏差更小（0.153 4%,95%的一致性限度:-4.701 3～5.008 0）。结论与传统CT影像相比,基于双源CT的70 ke V单能量影像的延迟强化技术能够通过提高影像质量和CNR,以及减少光束硬化伪影来改善对心肌病的评估。

Prognostic value of pre-treatment F-18-FDG PET-CT in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma undergoing radioembolization

AIM To evaluate the value of pre-treatment 18F-FDG PET/CT in patients with HCC following liver *** We identified 34 patients with HCC who underwent an FDG PET/CT scan prior to hepatic radioembolization at our institution between 2009 and 2013. Patients wereseen in clinic one month after radioembolization and then at 2-3 mo intervals. We assessed the influence of FDG tumor uptake on outcomes including local liver control(LLC), distant liver control(DLC), time to distant metastases(DM), progression free survival(PFS) and overall survival(OS).RESULTS The majority of patients were males(n = 25, 74%), and had Child Pugh Class A(n = 31, 91%), with a median age of 68 years(46-84 years). FDG-avid disease was found in 19(56%) patients with SUVmax ranging from 3 to 20. Female patients were more likely to have an FDG-avid HCC(P = 0.02). Median follow up of patients following radioembolization was 12 months(1.2-62.8 mo). FDG-avid disease was associated with a decreased 1 year LLC, DLC, DM and PFS(P ysis, FDG avidity predicted for LLC, DLC, and PFS(all P y, pre-treatment HCC FDGavidity was found to be associated with worse LLC, DLC, and PFS following radioembolization. Larger studies are needed to validate our initial findings to assess the role of F-18-FDG PET/CT scans as biomarker for patients with HCC following radioembolization.
