Kidney GATA3^(+) regulatory T cells play roles in the convalescence stage after antibody-mediated renal injury

FoxP3^(+)regulatory T cells(Tregs)play crucial roles in peripheral immune *** addition,Tregs that reside or accumulate in nonlymphoid tissues,called tissue Tregs,exhibit tissue-specific functions and contribute to the maintenance of tissue homeostasis and *** an experimental mouse model of crescentic glomerulonephritis induced by an anti-glomerular basement membrane antibody,Tregs started to accumulate in the kidney on day 10 of disease onset and remained at high levels(~30–35%of CD4^(+)T cells)during the late stage(days 21–90),which correlated with stable disease *** depletion on day 21 resulted in the relapse of renal dysfunction and an increase in Th1 cells,suggesting that Tregs are essential for disease control during the convalescence *** Tregs that accumulated in the kidney showed tissue Treg phenotypes,including high expression of GATA3,ST2(the IL33 receptor subunit),amphiregulin(Areg),and PPARγ.Although T-bet^(+) Tregs and RORγt^(+) Tregs were observed in the kidney,GATA3^(+) Tregs were predominant during the convalescence stage,and a PPARγagonist enhanced the accumulation of GATA3^(+) Tregs in the *** understand the function of specific genes in kidney Tregs,we developed a novel T cell transfer system to T cell-deficient *** experiment demonstrates that ST2,Areg,and CCR4 in Tregs play important roles in the accumulation of GATA3^(+) Tregs in the kidney and in the amelioration of renal *** data suggest that GATA3 is important for the recruitment of Tregs into the kidney,which is necessary for convalescence after renal tissue destruction.

Improved Authentication Accuracy by Individually Set Orders of the Fractional Fourier Transform and Effects of Damage of Fingerprint Image on Authentication Accuracy

Recently, ubiquitous personal devices with a fingerprint authentication function have been increasing. In such devices, there is almost no possibility of the authentication by impostors unless they are lost or stolen. However, for example, in the management of entering and leaving a building, not only the fingerprint authentication device but also the other authentication measures, such as an IC card, a key, etc., are generally used. In our previous studies, we have analyzed the authentication accuracy of the fingerprint authentication devices for personal possessions where other authentication measures are not needed. As a result, we made clear that the authentication accuracy in our method has extremely high compared with that in the marketed compact fingerprint authentication products, even if dirt, sebum, etc., are attached to the fingertip and there are scratches. In this study, we analyze the damage ratio of the fingerprint image where the genuine authentication can be conducted without problems, because the fingertip is easily got large cuts. Moreover, we analyze the impostor authentication of the fingerprint authentication devices for public possessions in the two cases of without and with other authentication measures. As a result, it is found that clearer impostor authentication can be achieved in the case of with other authentication measures. In addition, it is found that the damage ratio of the fingerprint image to conduct clearer genuine authentication without the image correction is less than 14.3%.

The surface topography of a material can influence osteoclast ***,the surface structural factors that promote osteoclast activity have not yet been investigated in ***,we investigated osteoclastogenesis by testing various defined patterns with different dimensions and *** systematic patterns,made of a cyclo-olefin polymer,were prepared at a micron-,submicron-,and nano-scale with a groove,hole,or pillar shape with a 1:1 pitch ***264.7 cells were cultured on these patterns in the presence of the receptor activator of NF-κB ligand(RANKL).Osteoclast formation was induced in the order:pillar>groove≥*** two-dimensional factors also indicated that submicron-sized patterns strongly induced osteoclast *** optimal pillar dimension for osteoclast formation was 500 nm in diameter and 2μm in ***,we observed two types of characteristic actin structure,i.e.,belt-like structures with small hollow circles and isolated ring-like structures,which formed on or around the pillars depending on size and ***,resorption pits were observed mainly on the top of calcium phosphate-coated ***,osteoclasts prefer convex shapes,such as pillars for differentiation and *** results indicate that osteoclastogenesis can be controlled by designing surfaces with specific morphologies.

A New Method for Improving Robustness of Registered Fingerprint Data Using the Fractional Fourier Transform

In the light of a limited number of related studies, a new data processing method in fingerprint authentication using the fractional Fourier transform (FRT) was proposed for registered fingerprint data. In this proposal, protection of personal information was also taken into account. We applied the FRT instead of the conventional Fourier transform (FT) which has been being used as one of the representative fingerprint authentication algorithm. Our method led to solve the problem of current registration method and the robustness was verified. In this study, a modeled fingerprint image instead of the original raw fingerprint images was analyzed in detail to make the characteristic clear. As one dimensional (1D) modeled fingerprint image, we used the finite rectangular wave which is regarded as the simplification of the grayscale distribution in an arbitrary scanned line of the raw fingerprint images. As a result, it was clarified that the data processed by the FRT provides higher safety than the case processed by the FT, because it is difficult to specify the orders from the intensity distribution of FRTs (the intensity FRTs) when the combination of the various FRT’s order at every scanned line is used.

Contribution of Ground-Based Cloud Observation to Satellite-Based Cloud Discrimination

One of the biggest factors to deteriorate the satellite product quality is cloud coverage. Therefore, cloud masking process is important to improve the quality of various satellite products. However, satellite-based cloud discrimination algorithm has been developing and efficient ground-based cloud observations are necessary to validate satellite-based cloud discrimination. The purpose of this study is to develop the efficient ground-based cloud observation methodology using whole sky camera. This paper deals with methods how to discriminate cloud portions on whole sky image, how to apply the ground-based cloud observation to the validations for satellite products. For the cloud discrimination on whole sky image, we propose SI （sky index） and BI （brightness index） calculated from RGB （red, green and blue） channels. SI shows the extent of the blueness and gray scale and BI indicates the extent of the brightness. Sun, cloud and blue sky portions are divided by SI and BI threshold. As an application of ground-based cloud observation for the validation of satellite products, clouds portions discriminated from whole sky image are projected onto ground surface with map coordinate. We also examine to compare with cloud portions on whole sky images and MODIS （MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer） image as one of experiments. The proposed ground-based cloud observation method and its extension to satellite-based cloud discrimination should be connected to improve the quality of satellite products.

Pass Appearance Time and Pass Attempts by Teams Qualifying for the Second Stage of FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil

This study aimed to clarify the difference between the not qualified teams and the qualified teams to 2nd stage in the Pass Appearance Time and passes attempted at all group stage games of World Cup 2014 and compared with World cup 2010. Results indicated changes in passing in modem football tactics. Actual playing time is represented as Net Playtime in this study. Pass Appearance Time is calculated by Net Playtime divided by passes Attempted. Pass Appearance Time of each team for the all Group stage games was calculated and compared with World cup 2010. No difference was revealed in the 2014 data between teams that did and did not qualify, though the 2010 data revealed differences. World cup 2010 data suggested that increasing passes attempts and lessening Pass Appearance Time were effective in qualifying for the 2rid stage. World cup 2014 data, however, suggested that diversity of tactics was important.

Accuracy Analysis in Fingerprint Authentication Using the Fractional Fourier Transform without Misalignment Correction of Scanned Images

In many fingerprint authentication devices, a frame to insert the fingertip or a hollow to put the fingertip is used to avoid the position or rotation misalignment of a newly scanned genuine fingerprint image, when the fingerprint authentication is conducted. Moreover, the misalignment correction by the numerical calculation is indispensable for the fingerprint authentication devices to achieve the high accuracy. In this study, we investigated the effects of misalignment of the scanned genuine fingerprint image with the one used for generating the template on the accuracy in our fingerprint authentication method using the fractional Fourier transform (FRT). As a result, it was found that our method can achieve high authentication accuracy under the condition that the position-misalignment ratio is 17.6% or less and the rotation misalignment (rotation angle) is 28 degrees or less, even if the misalignment correction is not conducted.

Matching Accuracy Analysis of Fingerprint Templates Generated by Data Processing Method Using the Fractional Fourier Transform

The matching accuracy of the fingerprint templates which were generated by our previously proposed data processing method using the fractional Fourier transform (FRT) was analyzed. The minimum error rate (MER) derived from the false acceptance rate (FAR) and the false rejection rate (FRR) is the criterion of the matching accuracy in this study, and was obtained statistically by the peak value of the normalized cross-correlation function between the fingerprint template and the intensity FRT of the subject’s fingerprint. In our analysis, the fingerprint template was obtained as the intensity FRT of one-dimensional (1D) finite rectangular wave by which a line of a real fingerprint image is modeled. Moreover, various modified 1D finite rectangular waves were generated to derive the FAR. Furthermore, the 1D finite rectangular wave with random noise regarded as dirt of a fingerprint and the one with random vanishing ridges regarded as damage of a fingerprint were generated to derive the FRR. As a result, it was clarified that fingerprint templates generated by our data processing method using the FRT could provide high matching accuracy in the fingerprint authentication from the viewpoint of the MER.

Effect of Ultrasonic Irradiation Conditions on Metal Surface during Multifunction Cavitation

Processing using multifunction cavitation (MFC) has recently enabled functional characteristics to be imparted to various materials. It is possible to process a material surface in the same manner as with conventional water jet (WJ) peening;however, the cavitation bubble temperature is different. To further improve this MFC technology, we examine the surface re-forming of low alloy steel (JIS-SCM435) using MFC with various modes of ultrasonic waves. The ultrasonic equipment used for MFC processing includes dual, single, pulse and frequency modulation (FM) ultrasonic modes. Improvement of the residual stress and corrosion resistance was confirmed for all modes. The dual mode showed the maximum values of residual compressive stress and surface potential. The sound pressure at the machining spot was the highest with dual mode, and the temperature in the bubble generated by the WJ nozzle was highest and the amount of dissolved oxygen was lowest. Improvement of the residual stress and corrosion resistance was promoted because the temperature and pressure in the bubble interior during processing was higher than in the other modes.

Duplication cyst of the small intestine found by double-balloon endoscopy:A case report

A 35-year-old man was admitted due to bloody stool and anemia. The bleeding source could not be detected by esophagogastroduodenoscopy or colonoscopy. Double balloon endoscopy (DBE) revealed a diverticulum-like hole in which coagula stuck in the ileum at 1 meter on the oral side from the ileocecal valve. The adjacent mucosa just to the oral side of the hole was elevated like a submucosal tumor. The lesion was considered the source of bleeding and removed surgically. It was determined to be a cyst with an ileal structure on the mesenteric aspect accompanying gastric mucosa. The diagnosis was a duplication cyst of the ileum,which is a rare entity that can cause gastrointestinal bleeding. In the present case,DBE was used to fi nd the hemorrhagic duplication cyst in the ileum.
