Understanding carbon-supported Pt-catalyzed oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)from the perspective of the active sites is of fundamental and practical *** this study,three differently sized carbon nanotube-supported Pt nanoparticles(Pt/CNT)are prepared by both atomic layer deposition(ALD)and impregnation *** performances of the catalysts toward the ORR in acidic media are comparatively studied to probe the effects of the sizes of the Pt nanoparticles together with their distributions,electronic properties,and local *** ALD-Pt/CNT catalysts show much higher ORR activity and selectivity than the impregnation-Pt/CNT *** outstanding ORR performance is ascribed to the well-controlled Pt particle sizes and distributions,desirable Pt^04f binding energy,and the Cl-free Pt surfaces based on the electrocatalytic measurements,catalyst characterizations,and model *** insights reported here could guide the rational design and fine-tuning of carbon-supported Pt catalysts for the ORR.

A novel crosslinkable water/alcohol soluble conjugated polymer PFN-C containing oxetane groups and aminoalkyl groups in the side chains has been developed and used as highly efficient electron injection and transporting material for polymer light-emitting diodes (PLEDs). The unique solubility in polar solvents and crosslinkable ability of PFN-C render it a good can- didate for solution processed multilayer PLEDs. It was found that PFN-C can greatly enhance the electron injection from high work-function metal cathode, due to its pendant amino groups. As a result, PLEDs with PFN-C/Al cathode exhibited compara- ble device performance to the devices with Ba/Al cathode. The resulting green light-emitting device showed promising perfor- mance with a maximum luminance efficiency of 13.53 cd A-1.

Microbial enzymes are crucial for material biotransformation during the composting *** this study,we investigated the effects of adding bamboo charcoal(BC)(i.e.,at 5%,10%,and 20%corresponding to BC5,BC10,and BC20,respectively)on the enzyme activity levels during chicken manure *** results showed that BC10 could increase the cellulose and urease activities by 56%and 96%,*** bacterial community structure in BC10 differed from those in the other treatments,and Luteivirga,Lactobacillus,Paenalcaligenes,Ulvibacter,Bacillus,Facklamia,Pelagibacterium,Sporosarcina,Cellvibrio,and Corynebacterium had the most important roles in *** with other treatments,BC10 significantly enhanced the average rates of degradation of carbohydrates(Dxylose(40%)andα-D-lactose(44%))and amino acids(L-arginine(16%),L-asparagine(14%),and L-threonine(52%)).We also explored the associations among the bacterial community and their metabolic functions with the changes in the activities of *** analysis demonstrated that BC10 altered the co-occurrence patterns of the bacterial communities,where Ulvibacter and class Bacilli were the keystone bacterial taxa with high capacities for degrading carbon source,and they were related to increases in the activities of cellulase and urease,*** results obtained in this study may help to further enhance the efficiency of composting.

Characterization of a Bacteriocin-Like Substance Produced from a Novel Isolated Strain of Bacillus subtilis SLyy-3

In the present research, the strain SLyy-3 was isolated from sediments of Jiaozhou Bay, Qingdao, China. The strain SLyy- 3, which produced a bacteriocin-like substance （BLS）, was characterized to be a strain of Bacillus subtillis by biochemical profiling and 16S rDNA sequence analysis. It is the first time to report that Bacillus subtilis from Jiaozhou Bay sediments could produce a BLS. The BLS of B. subtillis SLyy-3 exhibited strong inhibitory activity against gram-positive bacteria （including Staphylococcus aureus and B. subtillis） and some fimgi （including Penicillium glaucum, Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus）. The antimicrobial activity was detected from culture in the exponential growth phase and reached its maximum when culture entered into stationary growth phase. It was thermo-tolerant even when being kept at 100~C for 60 min without losing any activity and stable over a wide pH range from 1.0 to 12.0 while being inactivated by proteolytic enzyme and trypsin, indicating the proteinaceous nature of the BLS. The BLS was purified by precipitation with hydrochloric acid （HC1） and gel filteration （Sephadex G-100）. SDS-PAGE analysis of the extracellular peptides of SLyy-3 revealed a bacteriocin-like protein with a molecular mass of 66 kDa. Altogether, these characteristics indicate the potential of the BLS for food industry as a protection against pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms.

Glutamic acid(Glu)and aspartic acid(Asp)are acidic amino acids with regulatory roles in nutrition,energy metabolism,and oxidative *** study aimed to evaluate the effects of low-protein diets supplemented with Glu and Asp on the intestinal barrier function and energy metabolism in weaned piglets challenged with hydrogen peroxide(H2O2).Forty piglets were randomly divided into 5 groups:NC,PC,PGA,PG,and PA(n=8 for each group).Pigs in the NC and PC groups were fed a low-protein diet,while pigs in the PGA,PG,or PA groups were fed the low-protein diet supplemented with 2.0%Glu+1.0%Asp,2.0%Glu,or 1.0%Asp,*** day 8 and 11,pigs in the NC group were intraperitoneally injected with saline(1 mL/kg BW),while pigs in the other groups were intraperitoneally administered 10%H2O2(1 mL/kg BW).On day 14,all pigs were sacrificed to collect jejunum and ileum following the blood sample collection in the ***,low-protein diets supplemented with Glu or Asp ameliorated the intestinal oxidative stress response in H2O2-challenged piglets by decreasing intestinal expression of genes(Py metabolism-associated genes(such as hexokinase and carnitine palmitoyltransferase-1)and the H2O2-induced activation of acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase(ACC)in the jejunum and adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase-acetyl-ACC signaling in the *** Glu and Asp also ameliorated intestinal barrier damage as indicated by restored intestinal histology and *** conclusion,low-protein diets supplemented with Glu and Asp protected against oxidative stress-induced intestinal dysfunction in piglets,suggesting that this approach could be used as a nut

Theionarchaea is a recently described archaeal class within the *** it is widely distributed in sediment ecosystems,little is known about its metabolic potential and ecological ***,we used metagenomics and metatranscriptomics to characterize 12 theionarchaeal metagenome-assembled genomes,which were further divided into two subgroups,from coastal mangrove sediments of China and seawater columns of the yap *** analysis revealed that apart from the canonical sulfhydrogenase,Theionarchaea harbor genes encoding heliorhodopsin,group 4[NiFe]-hydrogenase,and flagellin,in which genes for heliorhodopsin and group 4[NiFe]-hydrogenase were transcribed in mangrove ***,the theionarchaeal substrate spectrum may be broader than previously reported as revealed by metagenomics and metatranscriptomics,and the potential carbon substrates include detrital proteins,hemicellulose,ethanol,and CO_(2).The genes for organic substrate metabolism(mainly detrital protein and amino acid metabolism genes)have relatively higher transcripts in the top sediment layers in mangrove *** addition,co-occurrence analysis suggested that the degradation of these organic compounds by Theionarchaea might be processed in syntrophy with fermenters(e.g.,Chloroflexi)and ***,these observations expand the current knowledge of the metabolic potential of Theionarchaea,and shed light on the metabolic strategies and roles of these archaea in the marine ecosystems.

A radial basis function network(RBF)has excellent generalization ability and approximation accuracy when its parameters are set ***,when relying only on traditional methods,it is difficult to obtain optimal network parameters and construct a stable model as *** view of this,a novel radial basis neural network(RBF-MLP)is proposed in this *** connecting two networks to work cooperatively,the RBF’s parameters can be adjusted adaptively by the structure of the multi-layer perceptron(MLP)to realize the effect of the backpropagation updating ***,a genetic algorithm is used to optimize the network’s hidden layer to confirm the optimal neurons(basis function)number *** addition,a memristive circuit model is proposed to realize the neural network’s operation based on the characteristics of spin *** is verified that the network can adaptively construct a network model with outstanding robustness and can stably achieve 98.33%accuracy in the processing of the Modified National Institute of Standards and Technology(MNIST)dataset classification *** experimental results show that the method has considerable application value.
