Resonant four-photon photoemission from SnSe_(2)(001)

High-order nonlinear multiphoton absorption is usually inefficient,but can be enhanced by designing resonant excitations between occupied and unoccupied energy *** conducted angle-resolved multi-photon photoemission(mPPe)studies on the SnSe_(2)(001)surfaces excited by ultrashort laser *** tuning photon energy and light polarization,we demonstrate the presence of a resonant four-photon photoemission(4PPe)process involving the occupied valence band(VB),the unoccupied second conduction band(CB2)and the unoccupied image-potential state(IPs)of SnSe_(2).In this 4PPe process,VB electrons of SnSe_(2) are resonantly.excited into CB2 by adsorbing two photons,followed by the adsorption of another photon to populate the n=1 IPs before being emitted out to the vacuum by adsorbing one more *** results in a double-resonant 4PPe process,which exhibits approximately a 40 times enhancement in photoemission y.elds compared to cases where one of the resonant pathways,CB2→IPs,is inhibited by involving a virtual state instead of the IPs in the *** double-resonant 4PPe process efficiently.excite the bulk VB electrons outside the vacuum,like taking advantage of resonant“ladders”through two real empty.electronic states of SnSe_(2).Our results highlight the important applications of mPPe in probing the band-structure,particularly the unoccupied states,of recently.emerging main group dichalcogenide ***,the discovered resonant mPPe process contributes to the exploration of their promising optoelectronic applications.

Phase separation of S-RNase promotes self-incompatibility in Petunia hybrida

Self-incompatibility(SI)is an intraspecific reproductive barrier widely present in *** SI system with the broadest occurrence in angiosperms is based on an S-RNase linked to a cluster of multiple S-locus F-box(SLF)genes found in the Solanaceae,Plantaginaceae,Rosaceae,and *** studies reveal that non-self S-RNase is degraded by the Skip Cullin F-box(SCF)SLF-mediated ubiquitin–proteasome system in a collaborative manner in Petunia,but how self-RNase functions largely remains ***,we show that S-RNases form S-RNase condensates(SRCs)in the self-pollen tube cytoplasm through phase separation and the disruption of SRC formation breaks SI in self-incompatible Petunia *** further find that the pistil SI factors of a small asparagine-rich protein HT-B and thioredoxin h together with a reduced state of the pollen tube all promote the expansion of SRCs,which then sequester several actin-binding proteins,including the actin poly.erization factor PhABRACL,the actin poly.erization activity of which is reduced by S-RNase in ***,we find that S-RNase variants lacking condensation ability fail to recruit PhABRACL and are unable to induce actin foci formation required for pollen tube growth *** together,our results demonstrate that phase separation of S-RNase promotes SI response in ***,revealing a new mode of S-RNase action.

Acoustic characterization of hydrate formation and decomposition in clay-bearing sediments

Understanding the acoustic characteristics of hydrates in various sediments is crucial for hydrate resource detection and safe and efficient exploitation, as hydrate occurrence patterns vary greatly in different sediments. In this work, sediments with different bentonite contents, water saturations, and ty.es were prepared to investigate the characteristics of P-wave velocity(reflecting the magnitude of hydrate saturation in the sediment) and amplitude(reflecting the degree of hydrate-sediment cementation) during hydrate formation and depressurization. During hydrate formation, the P-wave velocity and amplitude have similar trends. As clay content increases, the P-wave velocity increase rates quickened. On the other hand, the increased rate of P-wave velocity slows down with the increase of water saturation in the clay-bearing sediments. Comparing various ty.es of sediment shows that the water absorption and swelling of bentonite reduce the pore space, speeding up the cementation of the hydrate with the sediment and increasing P-wave velocity at a faster rate. Correspondence between P-wave velocity and hydrate saturation is strongly related to sediment ty.e, clay content, and water *** rapidly decreasing amplitude in the early stage of hydrate depressurization indicates that hydrate in clay-bearing sediments is weakly cemented to the sediments, which is prone to stratigraphic *** findings of this study offer guidance for hydrate resource assessments in clay-bearing sediments as well as geologic risk estimations during hydrate mining.

A critical challenge to the commercialization of clean and high-efficiency solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC)technology is the insuf-ficient stack lifespan caused by a variety of degradation mechanisms,which are associated with cell components and chemical *** components related degradation refers to thermal/chemical/electrochemical deterioration of cell materials under operating conditions,whereas the latter regards impurities in feedstocks of oxidant(air)and reductant(fuel).This article provides a thermodynamic perspective on the understanding of the impurities-induced degradation mechanisms in *** discussion focuses on using thermodynamic ana-lysis to elucidate poisoning mechanisms in cathodes by impurity species such as Cr,CO_(2),H_(2)O,and SO_(2) and in the anode by species such as S(or H_(2)S),SiO_(2),and P_(2)(or PH_(3)).The author hopes the presented fundamental insights can provide a theoretical foundation for search-ing for better technical solutions to address the critical degradation challenges.
