Pathological diagnosis and immunohistochemical analysis of giant retrosternal goiter in the elderly: A case report

BACKGROUND Elderly giant retrosternal thyroid goiter is a rare yet significant medical condition,often presenting clinical symptoms that can be confused with other diseases,posing diagnostic and therapeutic *** study aims to delve into the characteristics and potential mechanisms of this ailment through pathological diagnosis and immunohistochemical analysis,providing clinicians with more precise diagnostic and treatment strategies.A 77-year-old male,was admitted to hospital with the chief complaint of finding a goiter in the semilunar month during physical examination,accompanied by *** protruding into the superior mediastinum,the adjacent structure was compressed,the trachea was compressed to the right,and the local lumen was slightly *** patient was diagnosed with giant retrosternal *** dyspnea caused by trachea compression,our department planned to perform giant retrosternal *** results:Tg(+),TTF-1(+),Calcitonin(CT)(I),Ki-67(+,about 20%),CD34(-).Retrosternal goiter means that more than 50%of the volume of the thyroid gland is below the upper margin of the *** retrosternal goiter disease is a relatively rare disease,once the disease is diagnosed,it should be timely surgical treatment,and the treatment is more difficult,the need for professional medical team for comprehensive *** The imaging manifestations of giant retrosternal goiter are atypical,histomorphology and immunohistochemistry can assist in its *** article reviews the relevant literature of giant retrosternal goiter immunohisto-chemistry and shows that giant retrosternal goiter is positive for Tg,TTF-1,and Ki-67.

Evaluation of Circulating Endometrial Cells as a Biomarker for Endometriosis

Background： Circulating endometrial cells （CECs） have been reported to be present in the peripheral blood of women with endometriosis （EM）, providing clear and specific evidence of the presence of ectopic lesions. In this study, we established a method with a high detection rate of CECs, assessed the diagnostic value of CECs for EM and compared with serum CA125, and proposed a hypothesis for the pathogenesis of EM from the new perspective of CECs. Methods： The participants were enrolled prospectively from October 2015 to July 2016. The peripheral blood samples were collected from 59 participants, and the blood cells were isolated for immunofluorescence staining via microfluidic chips. The cells that were positive for vimentin/cytokeratin and estrogen/progesterone receptor and negative for CD45 were identified as CECs. The serum CA125 level was tested with electrochemiluminescence immunoassay. Results： The detection rate of CECs reached 89.5% （17/19） in the EM group, which was significantly higher than that of the control group （15.0% [6/40], P 〈 0.001） and was independent of menstrual cycle phases. Furthermore, a positive CEC assay detected 4/5 cases of Stage Ⅰ–Ⅱ EM. In contrast, a positive CA125 test had limited value in detecting EM （13/19, 68.4%） and detected only one case of Stage Ⅰ–Ⅱ EM. Conclusion： CECs are promising biomarkers for EM with great potential for a noninvasive diagnostic assay.

The tapetum,a crucial innermost layer encompassing male reproductive cells within the anther wall,plays a pivotal role in normal pollen *** transcription factors (TFs) bHLH010/089/091 redundantly facilitate the rapid nuclear accumulation of DYSFUNCTIONAL TAPETUM 1,a gatekeeper TF in the ***,the regulatory mechanisms governing the activity of bHLH010/089/091 remain *** this study,we reveal that caffeoyl coenzyme A O-methyltransferase 1 (CCoAOMT1) is a negative regulator affecting the nuclear localization and function of bHLH010 and bHLH089,probably through their K259 *** findings underscore that CCoAOMT1 promotes the nuclear export and degradation of bHLH010 and ***,elevated CCoAOMT1 expression resulted in defective pollen development,mirroring the phenotype observed in bhlh010 bhlh089 ***,our investigation revealed that the K259A mutation in the bHLH089 protein disrupted its translocation from the nucleus to the cytosol and impeded its degradation induced by ***,transgenic plants with the probHLH089::bHLH089^(K259A)construct failed to rescue proper pollen development or gene expression in bhlh010 bhlh089 ***,these findings emphasize the need to maintain balanced TF homeostasis for male *** firmly establish CCoAOMT1 as a pivotal regulator that is instrumental in achieving equilibrium between the induction of the tapetum transcriptional network and ensuring appropriate anther development.

Age and menopausal status are important factors influencing the serum human epididymis secretory protein 4 level:a prospective cross-sectional study in healthy Chinese people

Background::Human epididymis secretory protein 4(HE4)is a new ovarian cancer *** factors influencing HE4 levels are not clear,and the reference data in China are ***,we aim to evaluate the effects of menopause and age on HE4 levels and to provide a possible reference value for HE4 in healthy Chinese ***::A total of 2493 healthy females aged 40 years or older were recruited from March 2013 to March 2017 with the cooperation of four medical institutions across Beijing,*** serum levels of HE4 and cancer antigen 125(CA125)were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent *** Wilcoxon rank-sum test of variance and a stratified analysis were used to analyze the relationships among age,menopausal status,and levels of HE4 or *** intervals(5%-95%)were determined for reference ranges in different ***::There was a statistically significant difference in median HE4 levels between the post-menopausal(n=2168)and premenopausal groups(n=325)(36.46 vs.24.04 pmol/L,Z=-14.41,P<0.001).HE4 increased significantly with age in the post-menopausal groups(H=408.18,P<0.001)but not in the pre-menopausal subjects(Z=-0.43,P=0.67).The upper 95th percentile of HE4 levels were 44.63 pmol/L for pre-menopausal women,78.17 pmol/L for post-menopausal women,and 73.3 pmol/L for all *** the post-menopausal population,the HE4 reference ranges were 13.15 to 47.31,14.31 to 58.04,17.06 to 73.51,24.50 to 115.25,and 35.71 to 212.37 pmol/L for different age groups from forty divided by *** CA125 level was affected mainly by menopausal status and not ***::Menopausal status and age were both important factors influencing the level of HE4,and age affected HE4 levels mainly in post-menopausal *** HE4 level was higher in the post-menopausal population than in the pre-menopausal population and increased with age.

To effectively address energy challenges,it is crucial to explore efficient and stable bifunctional nonprecious metal *** this study,a Mo-doped nickeliron layered double hydroxide with flower-cluster architecture was successfully prepared by a one-step hydrothermal method,which demonstrated a good water splitting *** an appropriate amount of Mo doping,some lattice distortions in the material provided reactive sites for the adsorption and conversion of intermediates,thus optimising the charge distribution of the ***,the multidimensional void structures formed after doping had a larger specific surface area and accelerated the penetration of the electrolyte,which significantly improved the activity of the catalyst in alkaline *** 10 mA·cm^(-2),the hydrogen and oxygen evolution overpotentials of Mo-doped nickel-iron double hydroxides(Mo-NiFe LDH/NF-0.2)were 167 and 220 mV,respectively,with an excellent durability up to 24 *** the Mo-NiFe LDH/NF-0,2 catalyst was used as the cathode and anode of an electrolytic cell,the catalyst achieved a current density of 10 mA·cm^(-2)at an applied voltage of 1.643 *** study provides a novel approach for designing excellent bifunctional electrocatalysts containing nonprecious metals.

This study investigated degradation behaviors of a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug Nabumetone(NMT)and its major metabolite 6-methoxy-2-naphthylacetic acid(MNA)in the coupling process of ultraviolet and monochloramine(UV/NH2Cl).The second-order rate constants of the contaminants reacting with reactive radicals(HO·,Cl·,Cl_(2)·-,and CO_(3)·^(-))were determined by laser flash photolysis ***·and Cl·contributed predominantly with 52.3%and 21.7%for NMT degradation and 60.8%and 22.3%for MNA *** presence of chlorides retarded the degradation of NMT,while promoted the destruction of MNA,which was ascribed to the photosensitization effects of MNA under UV *** functional theory(DFT)calculations revealed that radical adduct formation(RAF)was dominant pathway for both HO·and Cl·reacting with the contaminants,and hydrogen atom transfer(HAT)preferred to occur on side chains of NMT and *** reacted with NO_(2)·through single electron transfer(SET)with the second-order rate constant calculated to be 5.35×10^(7)(mol/L)^(-1)sec^(-1),and the contribution of NO_(2)·was predicted to be 13.0%of the total rate constant of NMT in pure water,which indicated that NO_(2)·played a nonnegligible role in the degradation of *** acute toxicity and developmental toxicity of NMT were enhanced after UV/NH_(2)Cl treatment,while those of MNA were *** transformation products of both NMT and MNA exhibited higher mutagenicity than their parent *** study provides a deep understanding of the mechanism of radical degradation of NMT and MNA in the treatment of UV/NH2Cl.

Dual modification of LiNi_(0.83)Co_(0.11)Mn_(0.06)O_(2) cathode materials by K^(+) doping and Li_(3)PO_(4) coating for lithium ions batteries

Li_(3)PO_(4)@Li_(0.99)K_(0.01)Ni_(0.83)Co_(0.11)Mn_(O.06)O_(2)(NCM-KP) cathode powders are synthesized via K^(+)doping in calcination processes and H_3PO_4 coating in sol-gel processes.K^(+) precisely enters into the lattice to widen the(003) plane to 0.4746 nm with a lower cationic disordered degree of 1.87%.Moreover,the surface residual lithium salts are treated by H_3PO_4 to generate a uniform Li_(3)PO_(4) coating layer of approximately 11.41 nm,which completely covers on the surface of secondary spherical particles to improve the interfacial *** 25℃,the NCM-KP electrode delivers a discharge specific capacity of 148.9 mAh·g^(-1) with a remarkable capacity retention ratio of 84.1% after 200 cycles at 1.0C and retains a high reversible specific capacity of 154.4 mAh·g^(-1) at *** at 1.0C and 60℃,it can maintain a reversible discharge specific capacity of 114.6 mAh·g^(-1) with 0.21% of capacity decay per cycle after 200 cycles,which is significantly lower than 0.40% for the pristine NCM ***,the charge transfer resistance of 238.89 Ω for the NCM-KP electrode is significantly lower than 947.41 Ω for the pristine NCM one by restricting the interfacial side ***,combining K+doping and Li_(3)PO_(4) coating is an effective strategy to enable the significant improvement of the electrochemical property of high-nickel cathode materials,which may be mainly attributed to the widened diffusion pathway and the formed Li_(3)PO_(4) protective layer,thus promoting Li~+diffusion rate and preventing the erosion of HF.
