Implicit nonlinear FEM for steel sets in tunnels

Steel sets are widely used in tunnels with unfavorable geological conditions.Such steel sets always have small dimensions and are densely installed on the excavation surface,which is why performing nonlinear analysis on steel sets in actual engineering is a challenging task.Therefore,an implicit nonlinear finite element method(FEM)for steel sets in tunnels was proposed.First,considering the mechanical characteristics of the steel set,a mathematical model of the steel set was proposed,which can accurately reflect the arch effect of the steel set.Then,the stress-strain relationship of the steel set was divided into the linear elastic stage,the first yield platform stage,the nonlinear hardening stage,and the second yield platform stage.In combination with the mixed hardening model,a nonlinear mechanical model of the steel set was established,and its rationality was verified by a thick aluminum ring example.Thirdly,for the convenience of engineering applications,steel sets were implied into rock elements,and their elastoplastic stiffness was superimposed into rock elements to reflect their supporting action.Furthermore,a stress update algorithm for the steel sets in the nonlinear iterative process and a method to simulate their fracture failure were provided.These models were incorporated into a self-developed FEM program to conduct nonlinear analysis for steel sets in tunnels.Finally,the proposed method was applied in a cross-fault hydraulic tunnel.The results proved its rationality,and some conclusions of interest were obtained.This method does not need to establish a complex solid model for steel sets,has no influence on the meshes of rock elements,and can simulate the whole process of steel sets from the linear elastic stage to the nonlinear hardening stage and finally to the fracture failure stage.Thus,it may be a convenient method of simulating steel sets in tunnels.

The shapes of synthesized two‐dimensional materials

The shapes of as‐grown/as‐etched two‐dimensional(2D)islands are the most recognizable features of the chemical vapor deposition(CVD)process which reveal a lot of information about the chemical environment of growth/etching,the effect of the substrate and the growth/etching kinetics.Here,we summarize experimentally observed shapes of CVD‐grown 2D materials from previous reports,theoretical understanding on the corresponding mechanisms and the simulations of the corresponding growth/etching processes.Each part of the review article is organized by combining the fundamental principles that govern the shapes of crystals during growth/etching and the related experimental observations to facilitate the readers to read and understand the content.The content of the review includes attachment‐limited 2D materials growth,diffusion‐limited 2D materials growth(both with and without influence of the substrate),etching and merging of 2D materials with and without considering the effect of the substrate.We also discuss growth and etching of multilayered 2D islands during CVD—a topic still under development.We wish this review will also guide the audience to understand the kinetics of 2D materials growth and to improve controllable synthesis of various 2D materials.

Glycerol monolaurate attenuated immunological stress and intestinal mucosal injury by regulating the gut microbiota and activating AMPK/ Nrf2 signaling pathway in lipopolysaccharide-challenged broilers

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of glycerol monolaurate(GML)on lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced immunological stress and intestinal mucosal injury in broilers and its underlying mechanisms.A total of 144 one-d-old Arbor Acres broilers were allocated to a 22 factorial arrangement involving dietary treatment(0 or 1,200 mg/kg dietary GML)and LPS challenge(injected with saline or Escherichia coli LPS on d 16,18,and 20).Samples were collected on d 21.The results revealed that dietary GML augmented serum immunoglobulin A(P=0.009)and immunoglobulin G(P<0.001)levels in challenged birds.Dietary GML normalized LPS-induced variations in serum interleukin-6,interferongamma,and LPS levels(P<0.05),jejunal villus height(P=0.030),and gene expression of interleukin-6,macrophage inflammatory protein-3 alpha,Toll-like receptor 4,nuclear factor kappa-B,caspase-1,tight junction proteins,adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase alpha 1(AMPKa1),nuclear factorerythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2),and superoxide dismutase-1(P<0.05).GML supplementation ameliorated LPS-induced peroxidation by reducing malondialdehyde content and increasing antioxidant enzyme activity(P<0.05).Dietary GML enhanced the abundances of Anaerostipes,Pseudoflavonifractor,and Gordonibacter and reduced the proportion of Phascolarctobacterium in challenged birds.Dietary GML was positively correlated with alterations in antioxidant enzyme activities and AMPKa1,Nrf2,and zonula occludens-1 expressions.The genera Anaerostipes,Lachnospira,Gordonibacter,Lachnospira,Marvinbryantia,Peptococcus,and Pseudoflavonifractor were linked to attenuated inflammation and improved antioxidant capacity of challenged birds.In conclusion,dietary GML alleviated LPS-induced immunological stress and intestinal injury of broilers by suppressing inflammation and oxidative stress.Dietary GML regulated cecal microbiota and activated the AMPK/Nrf2 pathway in LPS-challenged broilers.

Giant cyst in heterotopic pregnancy:A case report

BACKGROUND The coexistence of a heterotopic pregnancy with a giant ovarian cyst is an incredibly rare abnormal pregnancy in cases of natural conception.The incidence of this condition has increased significantly as a result of the continuous development of assisted reproductive technologies.When this type of pregnancy occurs,both the continuation of intrauterine pregnancy and the life of the pregnant woman are severely threatened.Early diagnosis and treatment using safe and effective methods are paramount in this situation.CASE SUMMARY A 30-year-old primigravida at a gestation age determined as 8 wk 4 d by scan was admitted to the hospital with heterotopic pregnancy and a right ovarian cyst.Laparoscopic resection of the ectopic pregnancy was performed,but the intrauterine pregnancy and ovarian cyst were preserved.CONCLUSION The approach to a patient with heterotopic pregnancy and a giant ovarian cyst is individualized base on the fertility requirements.We recommend the following:(1)If the patient satisfies parity and has no fertility requirement,a laparoscopic salpingectomy should be performed and the giant ovarian cyst and intrauterine pregnancy removed;(2)If the patient has fertility requirements wishes to have more children in the future,laparoscopic salpingectomy or salpingostomy should be performed and the intrauterine pregnancy preserved.Serial ovarian cyst aspiration can be performed under ultrasound and resection can be done after delivery;and(3)Heterotopic pregnancy should be diagnosed early by active surveillance during antenatal visits using ultra sound as this is important for the avoidance of catastrophic complications.

The wrinkle formation in graphene on transition metal substrate:a molecular dynamics study

To explore the mechanism of the wrinkle formation in graphene on transition metal substrate,a molecular dynamics(MD)simulation package that allows us to simulate systems of millions of atoms was developed.Via the MD simulation,we reveal the detailed kinetics of wrinkles formation on a Cu substrate under compressive strain,from nucleation to one-dimensional propagation and then the splitting of a large wrinkle to a few smaller ones,which is in good conformity with experimental observation.Further study reveals that both friction and the adhesion between graphene and Cu substrate are critical for the wrinkle formation and wrinkles can be easily formed with a lower frictional force and/or a smaller adhesion.Finally,we have shown that impurities in graphene or substrates can greatly facilitate the nucleation of wrinkles.The systematic exploration of the wrinkle formation in graphene on a substrate is expected to facilitate the experimental designs for the controllable synthesis of high-quality graphene.

Gene Therapy Activates Retinal Pigment Epithelium Cell Proliferation for Age-related Macular Degeneration in a Mouse Model

Objective Age-related macular degeneration(AMD)is a degenerative retinal disease.The degeneration or death of retinal pigment epithelium(RPE)cells is implicated in the pathogenesis of AMD.This study aimed to activate the proliferation of RPE cells in vivo by using an adeno-associated virus(AAV)vector encodingβ-catenin to treat AMD in a mouse model.Methods Mice were intravitreally injected with AAV2/8-Y733F-VMD2-β-catenin for 2 or 4 weeks,andβ-catenin expression was measured using immunofluorescence staining,real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(PCR),and Western blotting.The function ofβ-catenin was determined using retinal flat mounts and laser-induced damage models.Finally,the safety of AAV2/8-Y733F-VMD2-β-catenin was evaluated by multiple intravitreal injections.Results AAV2/8-Y733F-VMD2-β-catenin induced the expression ofβ-catenin in RPE cells.It activated the proliferation of RPE cells and increased cyclin D1 expression.It was beneficial to the recovery of laser-induced damage by activating the proliferation of RPE cells.Furthermore,it could induce apoptosis of RPE cells by increasing the expression of Trp53,Bax and caspase3 while decreasing the expression of Bcl-2.Conclusion AAV2/8-Y733F-VMD2-β-catenin increasedβ-catenin expression in RPE cells,activated RPE cell proliferation,and helped mice heal from laser-induced eye injury.Furthermore,it could induce the apoptosis of RPE cells.Therefore,it may be a safe approach for AMD treatment.

Knowledge Graph Enhanced Transformers for Diagnosis Generation of Chinese Medicine

Chinese medicine(CM)diagnosis intellectualization is one of the hotspots in the research of CM modernization.The traditional CM intelligent diagnosis models transform the CM diagnosis issues into classification issues,however,it is difficult to solve the problems such as excessive or similar categories.With the development of natural language processing techniques,text generation technique has become increasingly mature.In this study,we aimed to establish the CM diagnosis generation model by transforming the CM diagnosis issues into text generation issues.The semantic context characteristic learning capacity was enhanced referring to Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory(BILSTM)with Transformer as the backbone network.Meanwhile,the CM diagnosis generation model Knowledge Graph Enhanced Transformer(KGET)was established by introducing the knowledge in medical field to enhance the inferential capability.The KGET model was established based on 566 CM case texts,and was compared with the classic text generation models including Long Short-Term Memory sequence-to-sequence(LSTM-seq2seq),Bidirectional and Auto-Regression Transformer(BART),and Chinese Pre-trained Unbalanced Transformer(CPT),so as to analyze the model manifestations.Finally,the ablation experiments were performed to explore the influence of the optimized part on the KGET model.The results of Bilingual Evaluation Understudy(BLEU),Recall-Oriented Understudy for Gisting Evaluation 1(ROUGE1),ROUGE2 and Edit distance of KGET model were 45.85,73.93,54.59 and 7.12,respectively in this study.Compared with LSTM-seq2seq,BART and CPT models,the KGET model was higher in BLEU,ROUGE1 and ROUGE2 by 6.00–17.09,1.65–9.39 and 0.51–17.62,respectively,and lower in Edit distance by 0.47–3.21.The ablation experiment results revealed that introduction of BILSTM model and prior knowledge could significantly increase the model performance.Additionally,the manual assessment indicated that the CM diagnosis results of the KGET model used in this study were highly consistent with the p

Bufalin Induces Programmed Necroptosis in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Drug-Resistant Cell Lines through RIP1/ROS-Mediated Pathway

Objective: To explore the effect and mechanism of action of bufalin in triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC) drug-resistant cell lines. Methods: The normal human mammary epithelial cell line, TNBC cell line, TNBC adriamycin-resistant cell line, and TNBC docetaxel-resistant cell line were treated with different doses of bufalin(0–1,000 nmol/L) at different time points(0–72 h). Propidium iodide staining, AV-FITC/PI double staining, Hoechst 33342/PI double staining and transmission electron microscopy(TEM) were used to evaluate the death patterns of the cell lines. Results: Bufalin killed the TNBC cell line and its drug-resistant cell lines in a dose/time-dependent manner(all P<0.01). After treatment with bufalin for 24 h, the adriamycinresistant cell line showed a co-existing pattern of necroptosis and apoptosis. However, at 48 h, necroptosis was the main manifestation. After treatment with bufalin, the expressions of tumor necrosis factor α, phospho-tumor necrosis factor receptor 1, phospho-receptor interacting protein 1 and c-caspase 3 increased(all P<0.01), the killing effect of bufalin could be mostly inhibited by NEC-1, and by z-VAD-fmk(both P <0.01). Besides, the intracellular reactive oxygen species(ROS) levels increased considerably(P<0.01), the antioxidant N-acetyl cysteine or Nec-1 could inhibit the increase of ROS level and the killing effect of bufalin(all P<0.01). The adriamycin-resistant cell line exhibited necroptosis characteristic after 48 h of bufalin treatment under TEM. Conclusions: Bufalin could induce necroptosis through RIP1/ROS-mediated pathway to kill the drug-resistant TNBC cell lines. This finding provides critical experimental data and theoretical basis for the clinical application of bufalin to overcome the difficulties in the treatment of TNBC.

The facile method developed for preparing polyvinylidene fluoride plasma separation membrane via macromolecular interaction

The design of membrane pore is critical for membrane preparation. Polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) membrane exhibits outstanding properties in the water-treatment field. However, it is a huge challenge to prepare PVDF macro-pore plasma separation membrane by non-solvent induced phase separation(NIPS). Herein, a facile strategy is proposed to prepare PVDF macro-pore plasma separation membrane via macromolecular interaction. ATR-FTIR and ^(1)H NMR showed that the intermolecular interaction existed between polyethylene oxide(PEO) and polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP). It could significantly affect the PVDF macro-pore membrane structure. The maximum pore of the PVDF membrane could be effectively adjusted from small-pore/medium-pore to macro-pore by changing the molecular weight of PEO. The PVDF macro-pore membrane was obtained successfully when PEO-200 k existed with PVP. It exhibited higher plasma separation properties than the currently used plasma separation membrane.Moreover, it had excellent hemocompatibility due to the similar plasma effect, hemolysis, prothrombin time, blood effect and complement C_(3a) effect with the current utilized plasma separation membrane,implying its great potential application. The proposed facile strategy in this work provides a new method to prepare PVDF macro-pore plasma separation membrane by NIPS.

Improving the timeliness of diesel engine maintenance for armored vehicles is an important goal of conditional maintenance. How to increase the working time of diesel engines and reduce the downtime are the key issues to be solved in order to improve the equipment readiness rate under the required reliability. When the task is performed in a harsh environment, when a large number of diesel engine failures occur, it is particularly important to improve the timeliness of maintenance to ensure that the task is completed. This article proposes the concept of the maintenance depth of armored vehicle diesel engines, builds an index system of armored vehicle diesel engines maintainability evaluation based on expert system, and elaborates on the evaluation indicators in detail.
