Spontaneous and continuous anti-virus disinfection from nonstoichiometric perovskite-type lanthanum manganese oxide

Viral pathogens have threatened human being’s health for a long time, from periodically breakout flu epidemics to recent rising Ebola virus disease. Herein, we report a new application of nonstoichiometric Perovskite-type LaxMn O3(x ? 1, 0.95, and 0.9) compounds in spontaneous and continuous disinfection of viruses. Perovskite-type LaxMn O3(x ? 1, 0.95, and 0.9) is well-known for their catalytic properties involving oxidization reactions, which are usually utilized as electrodes in fuel cells. By utilizing superb oxidative ability of LaxMn O3(x ? 1, 0.95, and 0.9),amino acid residues in viral envelope proteins are oxidized, thus envelope proteins are denatured and infectivity of the virus is neutralized. It is of great importance that this process does not require external energy sources like light or heat. The A/PR/8/34H1N1 influenza A virus(PR8) was employed as the sample virus in our demonstration, and high-throughput disinfections were observed. The efficiency of disinfection was correlated to oxidative ability of LaxMn O3(x ? 1, 0.95, and 0.9) by EPR and H2-TPR results that La0.9Mn O3 had the highest oxidative ability and correspondingly gave out the best disinfecting results within three nonstoichiometric compounds. Moreover, denaturation of hemagglutinin and neuraminidase, the two key envelope proteins of influenza A viruses, was demonstrated by HA unit assay with chicken red blood cells and NA fluorescence assay, respectively. This unique disinfecting application of La0.9Mn O3 is considered as a great make up to current sterilizing methods especially to photocatalyst based disinfectants and can be widely applied to cut-off spread routes of viruses, either viral aerosol or contaminated fluid, and help in controlling the possibly upcoming epidemics like flus and hemorrhagic fever.

Analysis of the independent-and interactive-photo-thermal effects on soybean flowering

Soybean（Glycine max（L.） Merr.） is a typical short-day and warm season plant, and the interval between emergence and flowering has long been known to be regulated by environmental factors, primarily photoperiod and temperature. While the effects of photoperiod and temperature on soybean flowering have been extensively studied, a dissection of the component photo-thermal effects has not been documented for Chinese germplasm. Our objective of the current study was to evaluate the independent- and interactive-photo-thermal responses of 71 cultivars from 6 ecotypes spanning the soybean production regions in China. These cultivars were subjected in pot experiments to different temperature regimes by planting in spring（low temperature（LT）） and summer（high temperature（HT））, and integrating with short day（SD, 12 h）, natural day（ND, variable day-length）, and long day（LD, 16 h） treatments over two years. The duration of the vegetative phase from emergence to first bloom（R1） was recorded, and the photo-thermal response was calculated. The outcome of this characterization led to the following conclusions：（1） There were significant differences in photo-thermal response among the different ecotypes. High-latitude ecotypes were less sensitive to the independent- and interactive-photo-thermal effects than low-latitude ecotypes; and（2） there was an interaction between photoperiod and temperature, with the effect of photoperiod on thermal sensitivity being greater under the LD than the SD condition, and with the effect of temperature on photoperiodic sensitivity being greater under the LT than the HT condition. The strengths and limitations of this study are discussed in terms of implications for current knowledge and future research directions. The study provides better understanding of photo-thermal effects on flowering in soybean genotypes from different ecotypes throughout China and of the implications for their adaptation more broadly.

Independent component analysis(ICA)is used to study the multiscale localised modes of streamwise velocity fluctuations in turbulent channel *** aims to decompose signals into independent modes,which may induce spatially localised *** height and size are defined to quantify the spatial position and extension of these ICA modes,*** contrast to spatially extended proper orthogonal decomposition(POD)modes,ICA modes are typically localised in space,and the energy of some modes is distributed across the near-wall *** sizes of ICA modes are multiscale and are approximately proportional to their *** modes can also help to reconstruct the statistics of turbulence,particularly the third-order moment of velocity fluctuations,which is related to the strongest Reynolds shear-stressproducing *** results reported in this paper indicate that the ICA method may connect statistical descriptions and structural descriptions of turbulence.

A Framework of Work-Family Facilitation： Observations from Employees in the Financial Industry in Taiwan

This study aims to understand the work-family facilitation and its antecedents. Positive synergies from work and family domains （work-family facilitation） were examined from interviewing financial service employees （N = 15） in Taiwan. Data analysis showed：（1） resources from both work and family domains, （2） the themes of work-family facilitation, （3） the relationship between work-family facilitation and the obtained resources across domains. These findings have managerial implications for designing work-and family-relevant policies that enhance work-family facilitation to further improve employees＇ quality and functions of work and family life.

A non-invasive,rapid method to genotype late-onset Alzheimer's disease-related apolipoprotein E gene polymorphisms

The apolipoprotein E gene ε4 allele is considered a negative factor for neural regeneration in late-onset Alzheimer＇s disease cases. The aim of this study was to establish a non-invasive, rapid method to genotype apolipoprotein E gene polymorphisms. Genomic DNA from mouth swab specimens was extracted using magnetic nanoparticles, and genotyping was performed by real-time PCR using TaqMan-BHQ probes. Genotyping accuracy was validated by DNA se- quencing. Our results demonstrate 100% correlation to DNA sequencing, indicating reliability of our protocol. Thus, the method we have developed for apolipoprotein E genotyping is accurate and reliable, and also suitable for genotyping large samples, which may help determine the role of the apolipoprotein E ε4 allele in neural regeneration in late-onset Alzheimer＇s disease cases.

Wheat straw return can lead to biogenic toluene emissions

As a common practice in agricultural system,straw return has been reported to release a large number of trace gases and attractedmuch ***,the role of straw return in toluene emission remains poorly *** this study we measured the emissions of toluene as well as other 50 volatile organic compounds(VOCs)from wheat straw return for 66 days under flooded and non-flooded conditions,*** results showed that substantial toluene was released from the returned wheat straw particularly under flooded condition,and primarily derived from the secondary *** emissions from the returned wheat straw were 36.8 and 8.45 mg C/kg,sharing 28.0%and 8.6%of total VOCs released,and over 90% of toluene emissions occurred between days 24-56 and 0-17 under flooded and non-flooded conditions,*** emission rates of toluene were relatively high but decreased sharply at the beginning 2 days,and then was steady until 24 days under the two moisture *** the initial decrease these rose again to form one“peak emission window”between days 24-56 under flooded condition,while these were still very low and steady until the end under non-flooded *** toluene emission rates significantly positively correlated with microbial biomass C under flooded condition,but negatively associated with bacteria and fungus number,microbial biomass C,and CO_(2) flux under non-flooded condition,suggesting that microorganism might play an important role in toluene emissions from wheat straw return.A rough estimate indicated that straw return might be important for biogenic toluene.

Numerical implementation and evaluation of resolvent-based estimation for space-time energy spectra in turbulent channel flows

Resolvent operator has been increasingly used to investigate turbulent flows and develop control ***,Towne et al.(J Fluid Mech 883:A17,2020)proposed a resolvent-based estimation(RBE)method for predicting turbulent statistics in a channel *** this paper,we utilize the RBE method to predict the root-mean-square(RMS)and space-time energy spectra of streamwise velocity fluctuation,where the input is the space-time energy spectra at a reference horizontal plane located in the logarithmic layer and the output is the space-time energy spectra in the buffer *** explicit formulas for the RBE method are given in detail for numerical *** results show the capability of the RBE method in the prediction of the convection velocity and bandwidth of the space-time energy ***,we make a systematic evaluation of the performance of the RBE method by varying the input configurations,including the wall-normal location of the reference plane,the inclusion or exclusion of the pressure as an input variable,the implementation approach of the pressure boundary condition,and the choice of the window *** is found that the results of both RMS velocity and space-time energy spectra obtained from the RBE method are sensitive to the location of the reference ***,the pressure boundary conditions and inclusion of pressure as an input do not cause significant change in the RMS velocity and space-time energy *** it does not influence the prediction of the RMS velocity,a window function is found crucial in the RBE method for the prediction of the space-time energy spectra.

Audio steganalysis based on “negative resonance phenomenon” caused by steganographic tools

Researching on the impact different steganographic software tools have audio statistical features, revealed the phe- nomenon that when messages are embedded in a WAV file by using a certain tool, the variation of statistical features in the WAV file which already contains messages embedded by the same tool is abruptly smaller than those in which messages have not been embedded. We call it “negative resonance phenomenon” temporarily. With the phenomenon above and Support Vector Machines (SVMs), we can detect the existence of hidden messages, and also identify the tools used to hide them. As shown by the experi- mental results, the proposed method can be very effectively used to detect hidden messages embedded by Hide4PGP, Stegowav and S-Tools4.

Rill erosion and controlling factors on highway side-slopes in the permafrost region

Soil erosion on highway side-slope has been recognized as a cause of environmental damage and a potential threat to road embankments in the high-altitude permafrost *** assess the risk to roads and to protect them effectively,it is crucial to clarify the mechanisms governing roadside ***,the cold climate and extremely vulnerable environment under permafrost conditions may result in a unique process of roadside erosion,which differs from the results of current studies conducted at lower *** this study,a field survey was conducted to investigate side-slope rill erosion along the permafrost section of a highway on the Qinghai‒Tibet Plateau of *** in erosion rates have been revealed,and intense erosion risks(with an average erosion rate of 13.05 kg/m^(2)/a)have been identified on the northern side of the Tanggula *** the case of individual rills,the detailed rill morphology data indicate that the rill heads are generally close to the slope top and that erosion predominantly occurs in the upper parts of highway slopes,as they are affected by road surface *** the road segment scale,the Pearson correlation and principal component analysis results revealed that the protective effect of vegetation,which was influenced by precipitation,was greater than the erosive effect of precipitation on roadside erosion.A random forest model was then adopted to quantify the importance of influencing factors,and the slope gradient was identified as the most significant factor,with a value of ***,the integrated slope and slope length index(L0.5S2)proved to be a reliable predictor,and a comprehensive model was built for highway side-slope rill erosion prediction(model efficiency=0.802).These results could be helpful for highway side-slope conservation and ecological risk prediction in alpine permafrost areas.
