Let {X, X_; ∈N^d} be a field of i.i.d, random variables indexed by d-tuples of positive integers and taking values in a Banach space B and let X_^((r))=X_(m) if ‖X_‖ is the r-th maximum of {‖X_‖; ≤. Let S_=∑(≤)X_ and ^((r))S_=S_-(X_^((1))+…+X_^((r)). We approximate the trimmed sums ^((r))_n, by a Brownian sheet and obtain sufficient and necessary conditions for ^((r))S_ to satisfy the compact and functional laws of the iterated logarithm. These results improve the previous works by Morrow (1981), Li and wu (1989) and Ledoux and Talagrand (1990).

A multiple random ray tracing model was developed for predicting the distribution of sound pressure levels in an enclosed space of any shape. This model considered two diffuse factors of a room:diffuse reflection due to room surfaces and scattering due to objects. The surface diffusion was treated by two different methods on the basis of probability analysis, and the scattering was simulated by a multiple random ray tracing process. Thus the sound pressure level distribution in a diffuse sound filed can be calculated more precisely.

C60·2CHBr3 polycrystalline powder was prepared by the solution method. The vibrational modes of the sample were studied by Raman scattering and infrared adsorption techniques. The Raman spectra showed that the Ag modes were downshifted by 4-5 cm1, while the Hg(1) mode was unshifted. The analyses of the downshifts of the Ag modes revealed that a small amount of electrons were transferred from the hydrogen atoms to the C60 molecules. In the infrared spectra, the F1u modes of the pristine C60 were unshifted after the intercalation with CHBr3. However, the vibrational modes of CHBr3 changed remarkably. The C-Br stretching mode was downshifted by ～4 cm1. The adsorption of the C-H twisting mode was weakened obviously, and the adsorption of the C-H stretching mode was not observed. These results exhibited that there were nonnegligible interactions between CHBr3 and C60 molecules, and that the strongest interaction took place between the hydrogen atoms and the C60 molecules. The interaction should induce not only the changes of the vibrational modes reported here, but also those of the electronic states. So this work should offer important glues to the mechanism of the superconductivity at 117 K of the field-doped C60·2CHBr3.

We examined the effects of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) on growth, fatty acid composition and enzyme activity of fatty acid oxidation in the liver of large yellow croaker. We divided 1600 fish (average initial weight 150 g) into 4 groups and reared them in 8 cages. Four dietary treatments were formulated to contain 0%, 1%, 2% and 4% (w/w) CLA, respectively. The fish were fed for 10 weeks ad libitum twice daily. We found that the dietary CLA had no effect on growth, biometric parameters and whole body proximate (P>0.05), but showed some significant effects on the fatty acid composition in both muscle and the liver. The activities of lipogenic enzymes were slightly depressed in fish fed with increasing levels of CLA when compared with control (P>0.05). Dietary CLA supplementation had no effects on liver lipid content, but significantly increased the contents of saturated fatty acids (SFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) (P<0.05) and decreased monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) content in both muscle and the liver. Dietary CLA inclusion resulted in significant increases of the biologically active cis-9, trans-11 and trans-10, cis-12 isomers in both tissues (P<0.05). The total accumulation of CLA was higher in the liver (3.83%, w/w) than in muscle (3.77%, w/w) when fed with 4% (w/w) CLA. This study demonstrates that large yellow croakers are capable of absorbing and depositing CLA and long-chain n-3 PUFA in the liver and muscle, showing that this species fed with CLA could be an important human food source for these healthful fatty acids.

In this paper, the authors investigate the existence of solutions of impulsive boundary value problems for Sturm-Liouville type differential inclusions which admit non-convex-valued multifunctions on right hand side. Two results under weaker conditions are presented. The methods rely on a fixed point theorem for contraction multi-valued maps due to Covitz and Nadler and Schaefer＇s fixed point theorem combined with lower semi-continuous multi-valued operators with decomposable values.

A quite great progress of the supervisory control theory for discrete event systems (DES) has been made in the past nearly twenty years, and now, automata, formal language and Petri nets become the main research tools. This paper focus on the Petri nets based supervisory control theory of DES. Firstly, we review the research results in this field, and claim that there generally exists a problem in Petri nets based supervisory control theory of DES, that is, the deadlock caused by the controller introduced to enforce the given specification occurs in the closed-loop systems, especially the deadlock occurs in the closed-loop system in which the original plant is live. Finally, a possible research direction is presented for the solution of this problem.
