AIM To determine steatosis and fibrosis prevalence in hepatitis c patients after a sustained virological response achieved with direct-acting *** Transient elastography with controlled attenuation parameter(cAP) was used to assess hepatic steatosis post-sustained virological response(SVR);the cAP technology was not available in the United States at study *** stiffness/fibrosis was measured before and 47 wk after treatment *** with genotype 3 and patients with cirrhosis were *** One hundred and one patients were included in the ***-SVR there were decreases from baseline in alanine aminotransferase(ALT)(63.1 to 17.8 U/L),aspartate aminotransferase(51.8 to 21.5 U/L) and fibrosis score(7.4 to 6.1 k Pa)(P cAP;of these,6.25% had advanced *** with steatosis had higher body mass index(29.0 vs 26.1 kg/m2),glucose(107.8 vs 96.6 mg/d L),ALT(20.4 vs 15.3 mg/d L),cAP score(296.3 vs 212.4 d B/m) and fibrosis score(7.0 vs 5.3 k Pa);P compared to baseline,both patients with and without steatosis had c.a.ge in fibrosis score post-SVR(7.7 k Pa vs 7.0 k Pa and 7.0 k Pa vs 5.3 k Pa);alternatively,(P continued to have clinically significant stiffness(≥ 7 k Pa).cONcLUSION Fatty liver is very common in hepatitis c virus(HcV) patients *** patients continue to have elevated mean fibrosis score(≥ 7 k Pa) compared to those without fatty liver;some have advanced *** term follow up is needed to assess steatosis and fibrosis in HcV patients post-SVR.

Modeling vapor pressure is cruc.a. for studying the moisture reliability of microelectronics, as high vapor pressure can cause device failures in environments with high temperature and humidity. To minimize the impact of vapor pressure, a super-hydrophobic(SH) c.a.ing can be applied on the exterior surface of devices in order to prevent moisture penetration. The underlying mec.a.ism of SH c.a.ing for enhancing device reliability, however, is still not fully understood. In this paper, we present several existing theories for predicting vapor pressure within microelectronic materials. In addition, we discuss the mec.a.ism and effectiveness of SH c.a.ing in preventing water vapor from entering a device, based on experimental results. Two theoretical models, a micro-mec.a.ics-based whole-field vapor pressure model and a convection-diffusion model, are described for predicting vapor pressure. Both methods have been successfully used to explain experimental results on unc.a.ed samples. However, when a device was c.a.ed with an SH nanocomposite, weight gain was still observed, likely due to vapor penetration through the SH surface. This phenomenon may cast doubt on the effectiveness of SH c.a.ings in microelectronic devices. Based on current theories and the available experimental results, we conclude that it is necessary to develop a new theory to understand how water vapor penetrates through SH c.a.ings and impacts the materials underneath. Such a theory could greatly improve microelectronics reliability.

Drug delivery to the posterior segment of the eye, espec.a.ly the retina, faces the unique c.a.lenges of various anatomical and physiological barriers. Invasive intravitreal injection is currently the mainstream clinical approach to posterior eye diseases such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, uveitis, and cytomegalovirus retinitis. Repeated injections could be complicated by endophthalmitis, intra- ocular pressure elevation, retinal vascular occlusion, and ret- inal detachment, let alone the psychological and economical burdens suffered by patients （Schwartz et al., 2014）. In view of this, several extended release drug delivery systems have been devised and the idea of encapsulated-cell technology （EcT） has gained popularity in recent decades since its first proposal in the 1960s.

Dear Editor,Approximately 90%of men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer(mcRPc)have bone metastases that can cause excruc.a.ing pain,bone fractures,disability,and death.13 Radium-223 is a radioactive isotope that mimics calcium and emits alpha particle radiation that selectively targets bone metastases.4,5 The results from the Alpharadin in Symptomatic Prostate cancer Patients(ALSYMPcA)study,a phase 3 randomized controlled trial,showed that radium-223 improved overall survival(OS)and time to symptomatic skeletalrelated events(SRE)in men with mcRPc.a.d bone metastases compared to placebo.6 Despite the FDA approval,radium-223 appears to be less utilized for the treatment of mcRPc compared to oral agents that target the androgen receptor pathway.

A bloom of the dinoflagellate Scrippsiella trochoidea was detected for the first time in inner Tolo Harbor,Hong Kong in 2 000. Water samples were collected at eight stations along a transect passing through a red tide patch for microscopic.a.alysis of phytoplankton composition and high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLc) analysis of phytoplankton pigments. During the bloom,the density of dinoflagellates was 1.1×106 cells L-1 within the patch and 8.6×105 cells L-1 outside the patch where the phytoplankton community was dominated by diatoms. After the bloom the S. trochoidea began to decrease in density and was replaced by diatoms as the dominating bloom-causing organisms at all stations,and the density of dinoflagellates at most stations was less than 1.0 × 106 cells L-1. The status of S. trochoidea as the causative species of the bloom was indicated by the presence of peridinin,the marker pigment for dinoflagellates. The shift from dinoflagellates to diatoms was marked by the decline of peridinin and the prevalence of fucoxanthin. Phytoplankton pigment markers also revealed the presence of other minor phytoplankton assemblages such as cryptomonads and blue-green algal.

A study was conducted on cu, Zn, cd, Fe, co and Ni levels in Saanich Inlet anoxic seawaler. Data on the concentrations of these trace metals and H2S, and other oc.a.ographic parameters were obtained in four cruisesEquilibrium models are presented together with in situ data. The" results strongly support the assumption that the solubilities of cu, Zn, cd, Fe, co and Ni are controlled by bisulfide and /or polysulfide complexes. The species of cu, Zn, cd and Ni are shown to be cu(S4)23- and cu(S4S5)3-, Zn(HS)20 and ZnHS2-, cd(HS)20 and Ni(HS)20 respectively. The solid species controlling Fe2 + and co2+ are respectively the pyrohotites FeS and coS. The data illustrates that thermodynamic equilibrium has been established in the H2S-controlled seawater of Saanich Inlet, and that equilibrium has not been established in the H2S-O2-coexisted seawater of Saanich Inlet. The lack of equilibrium in the H2S-O2-coexisted seawater is a result of the flushing or mixing of oxygenated seawater with anoxic water. The new s

The sea fluxes of trace metals, POc, and settled material were studied in anoxic sea water, Saanich Inlet, B.c., canada with sediment traps. This paper discusses the c.a.ge of mass fluxes of sediment, trace metals and POc for various seasons and depths. The annual mean of settled material is 1.56 g.m-2 .a-1, 84.6 mg. m-2. a-1 for POc, 60.0 mg.m-2. a-1 for cu, 16.5 mg.m-2.a-1 for Pb, 189 mg.m-2. a-1 for Zn, 2.20mg.m-2.a-1 for cd,699 mg.m-2.a-1 for Fe,38.8 mg.m-2.-1 for co, and 84.6 mg.m-2.a-1 for *** relations between the average fluxes of trace metals and POc, the fluxes of trace metals and settled matter, and the sea fluxes of trace metals and Fe are in linear progression. The resident times of elements as calculated from sea flux, are 1.1 a. for cu, 0.014 a. for Pb, 0.50 a. for Zn, 3.8 a. for cd, 0.16 a. for Fe, 0.39 a. for co,and 1.14 a. for *** order of resident times is as follows: Pb-Fe-co-Zn-cu-Ni-cd. A tetranuclear complex [co(III)(2)(L)(2)(AcO)(2)(OH)](AcO)(2I). 4H(2)O (L = N-ferrocenylmethyl-1,4,7-triaza-cyclononane) was prepared from ligand L . HI and its crystal structure was determined. The crystal exists in P2(1)(/)a space group and its cell parameters are a = 14.285(3)Angstrom, b = 19.888(3)Angstrom, c = 19.133(3)Angstrom; beta = 109.12(2)degrees; V = 5135.8 Angstrom(3); Z = 4. Electrochemical investigation reveals that the oxidation potential of ferrocenyl group in 1 has a 0.11V-positive-shift from that of the ferrocenyl group in ***.
