Effects of Stress, Depression, and Problem Drinking on Suicidal Ideation among Korean Workers

The mental health of workers is an important issue that affects not only individuals and their families but also workplaces and ***,it is necessary to regularly evaluate and analyze workers’mental health status,including levels of stress,depression,and addictive behaviors to apply thesefindings in creating mental health promotion *** study aims to provide basic data that would facilitate early intervention for workers’mental health problems by analyzing factors such as stress,depression,and problem drinking that can affect suicidal *** April 15 to October 25,2019,a survey was conducted with 165 workers across six workplaces in a Korean *** was performed using descriptive statistics,correlation,and simple and multiple regression analyses using the R statistics program *** was no difference in suicidal ideation scores based on the participants’general characteristics,while there was a significant positive correlation among stress,depression,problem drinking,and suicidal *** addition,severe depression,severe stress,and severe problem drinking had significant effects on suicidal ideation,and among the subitems of stress,somatic symptoms had an effect on suicidal *** addition,severe stress,somatic symptoms,depression,and severe problem drinking had a significant effect on suicidal ideation in males but not in *** is necessary to identify the effects of stress,depression,drinking problems,and suicide on workers’mental health,and evaluate their mental health systemati-cally and regularly to recognize whether active psychiatric treatment and nursing intervention are necessary as well as preventive *** addition,it is meaningful to pay attention to the suicide ideation of adult workers and provide basic data to promote systematic public health policies on mental health.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GISTs) are mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract that are most commonly found in the stomach. Although GISTs can spread to the liver and peritoneum, metastasis to the skeletal muscle is very rare and only four cases have previously been reported. These cases involved concurrent skeletal metastases of primary GISTs or liver metastases. Here, we report the first case of a distant recurrence in the brachialis muscle after complete remission of an extra-luminal gastric GIST following a wedge resection of the stomach, omental excision, and adjuvant imatinib therapy for one year. Ten months after therapy completion, the patient presented with swelling and tenderness in the left arm. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a large mass in the brachialis muscle, which showed positivity for c-kit and CD34 upon pathologic examination. This is the first reported case of a solitary distant recurrence of a GIST in the muscle after complete remission had been achieved.

DEAR EDITOR,The Antarctic toothfish,Dissostichus mawsoni,belongs to the Nototheniidae family and is distributed in sub-zero temperatures below S60°latitude in the Southern ***,it is an attractive model species to study the stenothermal cold-adapted character *** this study,we successfully generated highly contiguous genome sequences of ***,which contained 1062 scaffolds with a N50 length of 36.98 Mb and longest scaffold length of 46.82 *** elements accounted for 40.87%of the *** also inferred 32914 protein-coding genes using in silico gene prediction and transcriptome sequencing and detected splicing variants using Isoform-Sequencing(Iso-Seq),which will be invaluable resource for further exploration of the adaptation mechanisms of Antarctic *** new high-quality reference genome of *** provides a fundamental resource for a deeper understanding of cold adaptation and conservation of species.

Gastric cancer patients at high-risk of having synchronous cancer

AIM： To identify patients with a high-risk of having a synchronous cancer among gastric cancer patients. METHODS： We retrospectively analyzed the prospective gastric cancer database at the National Cancer Center, Korea from December 2000 to December 2004. The clinicopathological characteristics of patients with synchronous cancers and those of patients without synchronous cancers were compared. Multivariate analysis was performed to identify the risk factors for the presence of a synchronous cancer in gastric cancer patients. RESULTS： 111 of 3291 gastric cancer patients （3.4%） registered in the database had a synchronous cancer. Among these 111 patients, 109 had a single synchronous cancer and 2 patients had two synchronous cancers. The most common form of synchronous cancer was colorectal cancer （42 patients, 37.2%） followed by lung cancer （21 patients, 18.6%）. Multivariate analyses revealed that elderly patients with differentiated early gastric cancer have a higher probability of a synchronous cancer. CONCLUSION： Synchronous cancers in gastric cancer patients are not infrequent. The physicians should try to find synchronous cancers in gastric cancer patients, especially in the elderly with a differentiated early gastric

As a new concept in materials design,a variety of strategies have been developed to fabricate optical microlens arrays(MLAs)that enable the miniaturization of optical systems on the micro/nanoscale to improve their characteristic performance with unique optical *** this paper,we introduce a cost-effective and facile fabrication process on a large scale up to~15 inches via sequential lithographic methods to produce thin and deformable hexagonally arranged MLAs consisting of polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS).Simple employment of oxygen plasma treatment on the prestrained MLAs effectively harnessed the spontaneous formation of highly uniform nanowrinkled structures all over the surface of the elastomeric *** strain-controlled tunability,unexpected optical diffraction patterns were characterized by the interference combination effect of the microlens and deformable ***,the hierarchically structured MLAs presented here have the potential to produce desirable spatial arrangements,which may provide easily accessible opportunities to realize microlens-based technology by tunable focal lengths for more advanced micro-optical devices and imaging projection elements on unconventional security substrates.

Performance Analyses for a Cyclone Type Filter

Flow characteristics inside a cyclone filter were investigated by the use of computational fluid dynamics(CFD). For computations, SST model was adopted. Parametric study was carried out considering the filtering performance. Revolution speeds were changed from 100 to 550 with 50 increments. A skirt is the driving source for cyclone operation. The influence of several design factors, such as the skirt length, the skirt gap and the return length to filtering performance was investigated under the particle diameter 100μm of debris material(Al, s.g.=2.7). The filtering performance was also investigated with the skirt length 28 mm changing the debris diameters from 1μm to 50μm. The flow rate of the working fluid was maintained at 0.55kg/s. It has been verified that the most influential factors to the filtering efficiencies was the skirt gap between the cyclone generator and the cyclone vessel.

The shift of dark-grown seedlings into light causes enormous transcriptome changes followed by a dramatic developmental ***,we show that microRNA(miRNA)biogenesis also undergoes regulatory changes during *** seedlings maintain low levels of primary miRNAs(pri-miRNAs)and miRNA processing core proteins,such as Dicer-like 1,SERRATE,and HYPONASTIC LEAVES 1,whereas during de-etiolation both pri-miRNAs and the processing components accumulate to high ***,the levels of most miRNAs do not notably increase in response to *** reconcile this inconsistency,we demonstrated that an unknown suppressor decreases miRNA-processing activity and light-induced SMALL RNA DEGRADING NUCLEASE 1 shortens the half-life of several miRNAs in de-etiolated *** together,these data suggest a novel mechanism,miRNA-biogenetic inconsistency,which accounts for the intricacy of miRNA biogenesis during *** mechanism is essential for the survival of de-etiolated seedlings after long-term skotomorphogenesis and their optimal adaptation to ever-changing light conditions.

Impact of statin intensity on adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events in older adult patients with myocardial infarction

BACKGROUND There is insufficient evidence regarding the effect of high-intensity statin therapy in older *** study aimed to investigate the effects of high-intensity statin treatment on the clinical outcomes in older adults with myocardial infarc-tion(MI).METHODS Consecutive patients with MI aged at least 75 years were analyzed *** primary endpoint was major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events(MACCE),defined as a composite of all-cause death,MI,rehospitalization due to un-stable angina,repeat revascularization,and ischemic *** high-intensity group was compared to the low-to-moderate in-tensity group in the propensity score-matched *** Average age of total 546 patients was 81 *** them,84%of patients underwent percutaneous coronary *** unadjusted seven-year MACCE rate differed by statin intensity(high-intensity statin group:38%,moderate-intensity statin group:42%,low-intensity statin group:56%,and no-statin group:61%,P=0.004).However,among these groups,many baseline characteristics were significantly *** the 74 propensity score-matched pairs,which lacked any significant differences in all baseline characteristics,the high-intensity group had a significantly lower rate of MACCE than the low-to-moderate intensity group(37%vs.53%,P=0.047).Follow-up low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels were significantly lower in the high-intensity group than that in the low-to-moderate intensity group(69.4±16.0 mg/dL vs.77.9±25.9 mg/dL,P=0.026).CONCLUSIONS In older adult patients with MI,the use of high-intensity statin caused significantly less occurrence of MACCE in comparison to that in low-to-moderate intensity for up to seven years of follow-up.

Effect of preoperative biliary drainage on surgical results after pancreaticoduodenectomy in patients with distal common bile duct cancer:Focused on the rate of decrease in serum bilirubin

AIM: To examine if the rate of decrease in serum bilirubin after preoperative biliary drainagecan be used as a predicting factor for surgical complications and postoperative recovery after pancreaticoduodenectomy in patients with distal common bile duct ***: A retrospective study was performed in 49 consecutive patients who underwent pancrea-ticoduodenectomy for distal common bile duct cancer. Potential risk factors were compared between the complicated and uncomplicated groups. Also, the rates of decrease in serum bilirubin were compared pre- and postoperatively. RESULTS: Preoperative biliary drainage (PBD) was performed in 40 patients (81.6%). Postoperative morbidity and mortality rates were 46.9% (23/49) and 6.1% (3/49), respectively. The presence or absence of PBD was not different between the complicated and uncomplicated groups. In patients with PBD, neither the absolute level nor the rate of decrease in serum bilirubin was significantly different. Patients with rapid decrease preoperatively showed faster decrease during the first postoperative week (5.5 ± 4.4 μmol/L vs -1.7 ± 9.9 μmol/L, P = 0.004).CONCLUSION: PBD does not affect the surgical outcome of pancreaticoduodenectomy in patients with distal common bile duct cancer. There is a certain group of patients with a compromised hepatic excretory function, which is represented by the slow rate of decrease in serum bilirubin after PBD.

BACKGROUND Breast cancer in young women has been shown to have an aggressive behavior and poor *** To evaluate the outcomes of young hormone receptor(HR)-positive patients with breast cancer treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC),and the oncologic efficacy of gonadotropin-releasing hormone(GnRH)*** This retrospective study involved a prospectively enrolled *** included patients diagnosed with invasive breast cancer who were treated with NAC followed by curative surgery at the Samsung Medical Center and Samsung Changwon Hospital between January 2006 and December *** patients with HR-positive and human epidermal grow factor 2(HER2)-negative breast cancer,we analyzed the characteristics and oncology outcomes between the patients equal to or younger than 35 years and the patients older than 35 *** Among 431 patients with NAC and HR-positive/HER2-negative breast cancer,78 were 35 years old or younger,and 353 patients were older than 35 *** median follow-up was 71.0 *** was no statistically significant difference in disease free survival(DFS,P=0.565)and overall survival(P=0.820)between the patients equal to or younger than 35 years and the patients older than 35 *** two groups differed in that the GnRH agonist was used more frequently in the group of patients equal to or younger than 35 years than in the other group(52.4%vs 11.2%,P<0.001).Interestingly,for the DFS according to the GnRH agonist in the group of patients equal to or younger than 35 years,patients treated with the GnRH agonist had better DFS(P=0.037).CONCLUSION Administration of GnRH agonists might improve the DFS rate of HR-positive/HER2-negative breast cancer in the equal to or younger than 35 years group of patients with NAC.
