Preloaded and non-preloaded intraocular lens delivery system and characteristics: human and porcine eyes trial

AIM： To compare characteristics of preloaded and nonpreloaded intraocular lens（IOL） delivery systems during IOL delivery procedures. METHODS： Total 101 human eyes were included in this prospective observational case series. Delivery characteristics of 5 types of IOLs including i Sert250 NC60（NC60）, En Vista MX60（MX60）, Acry Sof IQ SN60 WF（SN60 WF）, TECNIS ZCB00（ZCB00）, and TECNIS PCB00（PCB00） were investigated. NC60 and PCB00 were injected via preloaded delivery systems and other IOLs were injected via nonpreloaded systems. In the human trial, time taken from IOL loading to completion of implantation was measured in all eyes undergoing conventional cataract surgery. Using 4 excised porcine eyes, dynamics of ophthalmic viscosurgical device（OVD） between an IOL injector and a porcine eye was analyzed using fluorescein sodiumstained OVD. RESULTS： The average time for IOL implantation was 22.0 s for NC60, 43.2 s for MX60, 32.3 s for SN60 WF, 41.4 s for ZCB00, and 14.6 s for PCB00 respectively. The number of cases with IOL manipulation with a second instrument was 6 for MX60, 2 for ZCB00, 0 for SN60 WF, NC60, and PCB00. Amount of OVD pushed into a porcine eye was smaller with a preloaded system than with non-preloaded systems. CONCLUSION： IOL delivery with preloaded systems is faster and more predictable. Moreover, a preloaded delivery system shows relatively less OVD pushed into a porcine eye than non-preloaded systems.

Helicobacter pylori in middle ear of children with

Background Otitis media with effusion （OME） is a common pediatric disease, but its pathogenesis remains uncertain. The relationship between OME and Helicobacter pylori （HP） is currently being studied, and a relationship has not yet been confirmed. The purpose of this study was to show that a relationship does exist between HP and OME. Methods The study consisted of 60 patients who were diagnosed with OME and had ventilation tube insertions with or without an adenoidectomy. This study included an additional 30 patients who had only received an adenoidectomy without being diagnosed with OME. The effusion samples were analyzed with polymerase chain reaction （PCR） and the campylobacter-like organism （CLO） test. The adenoid tissue samples were analyzed with the CLO test. Results Eighteen patients among the 60 patients （30%） tested positive for HP. In the cases with adenoids, 15.6% of the OME patients and 13.3% of the adenoidectomy only patients were positive for HP. There were no differences between the prevalence of HP in the adenoids of OME patients and the patients without OME. Conclusion HP can be considered one of the causes of OME.

Arabidopsis thaliana RECEPTOR DEAD KINASE1 Functions as a Positive Regulator in Plant Responses to ABA

Abscisic acid （ABA） is a major phytohormone involved in important stress-related and developmental plant processes. Membrane-delimited ABA signal transduction plays an important role in early ABA signaling, but the molecular mechanisms connecting core signaling components to the plasma membrane remain un- clear. Plants have evolved a large number of receptor-like kinases （RLKs） to modulate diverse biological processes by perceiving extracellular stimuli and activating downstream signaling responses. In this study, a putative leucine-rich repeat-RLK gene named RECEPTOR DEAD KINASE1 （AtRDK1） was identified and characterized in Arabidopsis thaliana. RDK1 promoter-GUS analysis revealed that RDK1 is expressed ubiq- uitously in the various tissues in Arabidopsis, and its expression is mainly induced by ABA. In the presence of ABA, RDKl-deficient rdkl-1 and rdkl-2 lines showed significant resistance in cotyledon greening and root growth, whereas RDKl-overexpressing lines showed enhanced sensitivity. Consistently, the expres- sion of ABA-responsive genes was significantly downregulated in rdkl mutant seedlings, which were also hypersensitive to drought stress with increased water loss. Interestingly, RDK1 was found to be an atypical kinase localized to the plasma membrane and did not require its kinase activity during ABA-mediated inhi- bition of seedling development. Accordingly, RDK1 interacted in the plasma membrane with type 2C protein phosphatase ABSClSIC ACID INSENSITIVE1 （ABI1）; this interaction was further enhanced by exogenous application of ABA, suggesting that RDKl-mediated recruitment of ABI1 onto the plasma membrane is important for ABA signaling. Taken together, these results reveal an important role for RDK1 in plant responses to abiotic stress conditions in an ABA-dependent manner.

OBJECTIVE: To find out the combination of the extracts from Paeonia lactiflora Pallas(PL), Rehmannia Glutinosa var. Purpurea Makino(RG), Perilla Frutescens var. Acuta Kudo(PF) to increase endometrial ***: Herbal medicines were extracted with boiling water and polysaccharides were *** examined the effect of PL, RG, and PF(PRP), a most effective herbal formula deduced from constitutive ingredient herbs of Antai Yin which is composed of PRP, on the leukemia inhibitory factor(LIF) expression and endometrial ***: The combination of the extracts from PRP induced the LIF expression in Ishikawa cells and increased the adhesion between Ishikawa and JAr cells. In addition, PRP-induced attachment of JAr cells onto Ishikawa cells and expression of adhesion molecules, ITGAV, ITGB5, CD44 s, and Lselectin, are significantly reduced by knock-down of LIF ***: Induced by the combination of the PRP extracts, the adhesion between trophoblast and endometrial cells are mediated by expression of LIF and adhesion molecules. Thus, we suggest the combination of the PRP extracts may be a novel therapy for enhancing embryo implantation rate.

Biochemical outcomes after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy in patients with follow-up more than 5-years

In this study, we assessed biochemical outcomes after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy （RARP）. Between July 2005 and November 2007, one hundred and seventy-six consecutive patients treated by RARP without neoadjuvant treatment were included in this study. All procedures were performed by a single surgeon and the median follow-up period was 60 months （interquartile range （IQR）： 59-69）. The median prostate specific antigen was 7.50 ng ml-1 （IQR： 5.14-11.45） and 39.2% of the patients were classified as intermediate risk and 15.3% were classified as high risk; on final pathological examination, 35.2% of the patients had non-organ confined disease and 37.5% and 14.2% had Gleason scores of 7 and 8-10, respectively. The biochemical recurrence （BCR）-free survival rates at 3 and 5 years were 85.6% and 81.2%, respectively. The 5-year BCR-free survival rates stratified by pathologic Gleason scores were 93.1% in Gleason scores of 6 or less, 74.5% in a Gleason score of 7, and 58.1% in Gleason scores of 8 or greater, respectively （P〈0.001）. When stratified by pathologic stage, the BCR-free survival rates were 89.8% in pT2 patients, 66.2% in pT3a patients, and 39.3% in pT3b patients at 5 years following RARP, respectively （P〈0.001）. Preoperative prostate-specific antigen （PSA）, pathologic stage, postoperative Gleason score and surgical margin status were independently associated with BCR in multivariate analysis. In this study, we report biochemical outcomes after RARP with the longest follow-up periods to date in Asian men. We found that robotic surgery provided satisfactory biochemical outcomes, and that RARP is a safe and effective procedure in terms of oncologic outcomes.

Comparison of postoperative corneal changes between dry eye and non-dry eye in a murine cataract surgery model

AIM： To compare the effects of the surgical insult of cataract surgery on corneal inflammatory infiltration, neovascularization （NV） and lymphangiogenesis （LY） between the dry eye and non-dry eye in murine cataract surgery models.METHODS： We established two groups of animals, one with normal eyes （non-dry eye） and the second with induced dry eyes. In both groups, we used surgical insults to mimic human cataract surgery, which consisted of lens extraction, corneal incision and suture. After harvesting of corneas on the 9th postoperative day and immunohistochemical staining, we compared NV, LY and CD11b＋ cell infiltration in the corneas.RESULTS： Dry eye group had significantly more inflammatory infiltration （21.75%±7.17% r/s 3.65%±1.49%; P=0.049）. The dry eye group showed significantly more NV （48.21% ±4.02% ys 26.24% ±6.01% ; P =0.016） and greater levels of LY （9.27%±0.48% ys 4.84%±1.15%; P= 0.007）. In corneas on which no surgery was performed, there was no induction of NV in both the dry and non- dry group, but dry eye group demonstrated more CD11b＋ cells infiltration than the non-dry eye group （0.360%± 0.160% vs 0.023%±0.006%; P=0.068）. Dry eye group showed more NV than non-dry eye group in both topical PBS application and subconjunctival PBS injection （P= 0.020 and 0.000, respectively）.

OBJECTIVE:This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of Amomum villosum on longitudinal bone ***:Adolescent female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 3 groups and treated for 4 days:control(distilled water,p.o.),recombinant human growth hormone(rhGH;100 μg/kg,s.c.),and ***(500 mg/kg,p.o.) *** day 3,tetracycline(20 g/kg,i.p.) was injected for growth plate *** days 2,3 and 4,5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine(BrdU)(50 mg/kg,i.p.) was injected to label proliferating *** day 5,tibias were dissected and fixed in 4% paraformaldehyde,dehydrated,and sectioned for immunohistochemistry and ***:The rate of bone growth in the *** and rhGH groups increased to(410 ± 44) and(389 ± 46) μm/day(P<0.01),respectively,as compared with the control(330.7 ± 34.7) μm/*** thickness of the growth plates also increased to(591 ± 37) and(598 ± 32) μm,respectively,as compared with the control(524± 89) μm(P<0.001).The number of BrdU-positive cells in the chondrocytes of the *** and rhGH groups was also significantly higher(126±24) and(143±18) cells/mm 2,respectively) than in the control(109 ± 25) mm 2(P<0.05).Insulin-like growth factor-1 and bone morphogenetic protein-2 in the *** and rhGH groups were highly expressed in the growth plate as compared with the control samples,indicating increased bone ***:*** could be used to treat growth retardation during adolescence.

A randomized, prospective, two-center comparison of sirolimus-eluting stent and zotarolimus-eluting stent in acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction： The SEZE trial

Background The zotarolimus-eluting stent has shown larger in-stent late lumen loss compared to sirolimus-eluting stents in previous studies. However, this has not been thoroughly evaluated in ST elevation myocardial infarction. Methods This was a prospective, randomized, controlled trial evaluating angiographic outcomes in patients presenting with ST elevation myocardial infarction, treated with zotarolimus-eluting stents or sirolimus-eluting stents. From March 2007 to February 2009, 122 patients were randomized to zotarolimus-eluting stents or sirolimus-eluting stents in a 1：1 fashion. The primary endpoint was 9-month in-stent late lumen loss confirmed by coronary angiography, and secondary endpoints were percent diameter stenosis, binary restenosis rate, major adverse cardiac events （a composite of cardiac death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, and target vessel revascularization）, and late-acquired incomplete stent apposition. Results Angiographic in-stent late lumen loss was significantly higher in the zotarolimus-eluting stent group compared to the sirolimus-eluting stent group （（0.49±0.65） mm vs. （0.10±0.46） mm, P=0.001）. Percent diameter stenosis at 9-month follow-up was also larger in the zotarolimus-eluting stent group （（30.0±17.9）% vs. （17.6±14.0）%, P 〈0.001）. In-segment analysis showed similar findings. There were no significant differences in binary restenosis rate, major adverse cardiac events, and late-acquired incomplete stent apposition. Conclusions Compared to sirolimus-eluting stents, the zotarolimus-eluting stent is associated with significantly higher in-stent late lumen loss at 9-month angiographic follow-up in the treatment of ST elevation myocardial infarction. Although there was no significant difference in 1-year clinical outcomes, the clinical implication of increased late lumen loss should be further studied.

Measurement of stiffness and damping coefficient of rubber tractor tires using dynamic cleat test based on point contact model

The ride vibration of a tractor is affected mostly by the stiffness and damping coefficient of the seat suspension,cabin suspension,cabin rubber mounts,and rubber ***,in the case of rubber tractor tires,the stiffnesses and damping coefficients have not been researched adequately thus far,and it is not simple to measure these *** this study,a method for measuring and analyzing the stiffnesses and damping coefficients of rubber tractor tires,which were the input parameters for the tractor ride vibration simulation,was *** cleat test,proposed in this study,did not require separate and complicated test equipment,unlike the conventional *** test was conducted simply by measuring acceleration under the driving conditions of the vehicle without detaching tires from the vehicle body or setting up additional test *** on the ground-vertical acceleration data obtained,the stiffness was calculated using the logarithmic decrement method,and the damping coefficient was calculated using least squares exponential curve *** result of the cleat test indicated that the front tires had stiffnesses of 486.08-570.69 kN/m and damping coefficients of 4.02-4.52 kN·s/m;the rear tires had stiffnesses of 409.42-483.79 kN/m and damping coefficients of 2.21-2.67 kN·s/*** the test,40 mm height cleats were installed on the track and the speed of the tractor was set to 7 and 10 km/h,which were the most common speeds during the *** study is meaningful in that it has presented a new method that improves the practicality of results,reduces cost,and simplifies the test process for measuring the stiffnesses and damping coefficients of rubber tractor tires.
