Background. The purpose of the stud. was to investigate effects of ethyl eicosapentaenoic acid.on pharmacokinetics of metformin. Pharmacokinetic profiles of metformin and.ethyl eicosapentaenoic acid.when d.livered.separately or together in solid.d.se form were investigated.and.compared.to d.termine whether the solid.d.se resulted.in an altered.metforminpharmacokinetics when given with or without food. Method.: A single-center, open-label, repeated.d.se stud. investigated.the pharmacokinetic (PK) profile of metformin when ad.inistered.in solid.d.se form with ethyl eicosapentaenoic acid.compared.to co-ad.inistration with icosapent ethyl, an ester of eicosapentaenoic acid.and.ethyl alcohol used.to treat severe hypertriglycerid.mia with metformin hyd.ochlorid.. Non-compartmental PK method. were used.to compare area und.r the plasma concentration curve (AUC) and.maximum plasma concentration (Cmax) between patients rand.mized.to either the ester or separate med.cations group und.r both fasting and.fed.cond.tions. Results: Using these two PK parameters, results showed.that metformin availability was higher und.r fasting cond.tions when d.livered.separately from icosapent ethyl. There were no group d.fferences in the fed.cond.tion. Conclusions: The solid.d.se form of metformin and.ethyl eicosapentaenoic acid.d.d.not improve the pharmacokinetics of metformin in terms of plasma availability, suggesting that little is to be gained.over the separate ad.inistration of ethyl eicosapentaenoic acid.and.metformin hyd.ochlorid..

This stud. d.termined.concentrations of iod.ne, consistent with WHO iod.ne fortification stand.rd., in commercial ed.ble salts mostly consumed.in Harper. The following hypothesis was put forward.in the research stud.;H1: the iod.ne content of the two brand. of iod.zed.salts is d.fferent from the WHO iod.ne fortification levels;H0: the iod.ne content of the two brand. of iod.zed.salts is not d.fferent from the WHO iod.ne fortification levels. The hypothesis was tested.in MS Excel 2010 and.2016 via the T-Test function giving p-value = 0.1476 and.p-value = 0.0395 ind.cative of no significant d.fference in the iod.ne concentration of the salts compared.with the lower limit of WHO stand.rd.20 mg·Kg-1 and.huge contrast in the iod.ne concentration of the salts compared.with the upper limit of WHO stand.rd.40 mg·Kg-1 respectively. The UV spectrophotometric method.was used.to analyze and.measure the iod.ne concentration in the twelve (12) samples of two d.fferent brand. bought from grocery stores in Harper city. Results ind.cated.that all samples of the two (2) brand. of iod.zed.salts contained.iod.ne of no significant d.fference relative to the lower limit of WHO stand.rd.but far below the upper limit of the WHO stand.rd. The stud. therefore recommend. monitoring of commercial iod.zed.salts by appropriate authorities in Harper to ascertain the WHO iod.zation fortification stand.rd. before reaching consumers.

Trait d.vergence between populations is consid.red.an ad.ptive response to d.fferent environments,but to what extent this response is accompanied.by genetic d.fferentiation is less clear since it may be phenotypic plasticity. In this stud., we analyzed.phenotypic variation between two Banksia attenuata growth forms, lignotuberous(shrub) and.epicormic resprouting(tree), in fire-prone environments to id.ntify the environmental factors that have d.iven this phenotypic d.vergence. We linked.genotype with phenotype and.traced.cand.d.te genes using d.fferential gene expression analysis. Fire intervals d.termined.the phenotypic d.vergence between growth forms in B. attenuata. A genome-wid. association stud. id.ntified.69 single nucleotid. polymorphisms, putatively associated.with growth form, whereas no growth form-or phenotype-specific genotypes were eid.ntified. Genomic d.fferentiation between the two growth forms was low(F_(st)=0.024). d.fferential gene expression analysis id.ntified.37 genes/transcripts that were d.fferentially expressed.in the two growth forms. A small heat-shock protein gene, associated.with lignotuber presence, was d.fferentially expressed.in the two *** conclud. that d.fferent fire regimes ind.ce phenotypic polymorphism in B. attenuata, whereas phenotypic trait d.vergence involves the d.fferential expression of a small fraction of genes that interact strongly with the d.sturbance regime. Thus, phenotypic plasticity among resprouters is the general strategy for surviving varying fire regimes.
