Orthogonal experiments are used to design the pulsed bias related parameters, including bias magnitude, duty cycle and pulse frequency, during arc ion deposition of TiN films on stainless steel substrates in the case of samples placing normal to the plasma flux. The effect of these parameters on the amount and the size distribution of droplet-particles are investigated, and the results have provided sufficient evidence for the physical model, in which particles reduction is due to the case that the particles are negatively charged and repulsed from negative pulse electric field. The effect of sample configuration on amount and size distribution of the particles are analyzed. The results of the amount and size distribution of the particles are compared to those in the case of samples placing parallel to the plasma flux.

A desirable methanol oxidation electrocatalyst was fabricated by metal atom diffusion to form an alloy of an assembled three-dimensional （3D） radial nanostructure of SnNi nanoneedles loaded with SnNiPt nanoparticles （NPs）.Herein,metal atom diffusion occurred between the SnNi support and loaded Pt NPs to form a SnNiPt ternary alloy on the catalyst *** as-obtained catalyst combines the excellent catalytic performance of the alloy and advantages of the 3D nanostructure;the SnNiPt NPs,which fused on the surface of the SnNi nanoneedle support,can dramatically improve the availability of Pt during electrocatalysis,and thus elevate the catalytic *** addition,the efficient mass transfer of the 3D nanostructure reduced the onset ***,the catalyst achieved a favorable CO poisoning resistance and enhanced *** atomic interdiffusion,the catalytic activity drastically increased by 45%,and the other performances substantially *** results demonstrate the significant advantage and enormous potential of the atomic interdiffusion treatment in catalytic applications.

Crystallization, Mechanical and Flame-retardant Properties of Poly(lactic acid) Composites with DOPO and DOPO-POSS

Poly（lactic acid）（PLA） composites with 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide （DOPO） and DOPO- containing polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane （DOPO-POSS） were prepared via melting extrusion and injection molding. The crystallization, mechanical, and flame-retardant properties of PLA/DOPO and PLA/DOPO-POSS were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry （DSC）, X-ray diffraction （XRD）, tensile testing, thermogravimetric analysis （TGA）, limiting oxygen index （LOI）, and cone calorimeter test. The DSC results showed that the DOPO added could act as a plasticizer as reflected by lower glass transition temperature and inhibited crystallization of part of the PLA; the DOPO-POSS acted like a filler in the PLA matrix and slightly improved the crystallinity of the PLA matrix. The XRD and DSC analyses indicated that the PLA composites by cold molding injection were amorphous, and the PLA composites following a heat treatment in an oven at 120 ℃for 30 min achieved crystallinity. All the PLA and its composites after heat treatment had improved mechanical properties. The thermogravimetric analysis （TGA） tests showed that the PLA, DOPO and DOPO-POSS decomposed separately in the PLA/DOPO and PLA/DOPO-POSS, respectively. The cone calorimeter tests offered clear evidence that addition of the DOPO-POSS resulted in an evident reduction of 25% for the peak of heat release rate （p-HRR）. It was also confirmed that the crystalline flame-retardant PLA composites after heat treatment had better flame retardant properties than the amorphous PLA composites prepared by the cold molding.

Effect of nano-sized precipitates on the crystallography of ferrite in high-strength strip steel

For strip steel with the thickness of 1.6 ram, the yield and tensile strengths as high as 760 and 850 MPa, respectively, were achieved using the compact strip production technology. Precipitates in the steel were characterized by scanning and transmission electron microscopy to elucidate the strengthening mechanism. In addition, intragranular misorientation, Kernel average misorientafion, and stored energy were measured using electron backscatter diffraction for crystallographic analysis of ferrite grains containing precipitates and their neighbors without precipitates. It is found that precipitates in specimens primarily consist of TiC and Ti4CzS2. Ferrite grains containing pre- cipitates exhibit the high Taylor factor as well as the crystallographic orientations with {012}, {011}, {112}, or {221} plane parallel to the rolling plane. Compared with the intragranular orientation of adjoining grains, the intragranular misorientation of grains containing precipi- tates fluctuates more frequently and more mildly as a function of distance. Moreover, the precipitates can induce ferrite grains to store a rela- tively large amount of energy. These results suggest that a correlation exists between precipitation in ferrite grains and grain crystallographic properties.

Various Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalysts have been synthesized by different aluminum emulsions as aluminum sources and their pertormances tor methanol synthesis from syngas have been investigated. The influences of preparation methods of aluminum emulsions on physicochemical and catalytic properties of catalysts were studied by XRD, SEM, XPS,N2 adsorption-desorption techniques and methanol synthesis from syngas. The preparation methods of aluminum emulsions were found to influence the catalytic activity, CuO crystallite size, surface area and Cu0 surface area and reduction process. The results show that the catalyst CN using the aluminum source prepared by addition the ammonia into the aluminum nitrate （NP） exhibited the best catalytic performance for methanol synthesis from syngas.

In this paper, model-based(surface, dihedral and volume scattering) target decomposition technique is proposed to decompose the π/4 mode compact polarimetric radar data. A general relationship between fully polarimetric coherence matrix and the Stokes vector of the π/4 mode compact polarimetric data is first established. Based on the Stokes vector, a proposed algorithm to retrieve the power of three scattering mechanisms is given in details. We validate this algorithm with L-band AIRSAR, San Francisco Bay, and results of decomposition are discussed and assessed in detail by being compared with the quad-pol Freeman-durden decomposition results. Finally, the π/4 mode decomposition is compared with the CTLR(circular transmitting and linear reeving) mode, and with the π/4 mode m- δ targets decomposition. The comparison results are analyzed and discussed in detail.

Strategic Admission Behavior and Its Implications: Evidence from a Cardiac Surgery Department

This paper examines a decentralized admission control system with partial capacity sharing in a hospital setting. The admission decision is made by each physician who is assigned a number of dedicated inpatient beds. A physician can “borrow” beds from other physicians if his dedicated beds are all occupied. We seek to understand the impact of the “borrowing cost” on physicians’ admission behavior. We find that (i) If the borrowing cost is low, a physician tends to admit lower-risk patients when either his or others’ capacity utilization is higher;(ii) If the borrowing cost is moderate, a physician tends to admit higher (lower)-risk patients when his (others’) capacity utilization is higher;and (iii) If the borrowing cost is high, a physician tends to admit higher-risk patients when either his or others’ capacity utilization is higher. We then empirically test and validate these findings. Our work demonstrates that when designing strategic admission control systems, it is important to quantify and perhaps then influence the magnitude of the borrowing cost to induce a proper level of competition without sacrificing the benefit of resource pooling.
