The forest litter is an essential reservoir of nutrients in forests, supplying a large part of absorbable base cations(BC) to topsoil, and facilitating plant growth within litter-soil system. To characterize elevational patterns of base cation concentrations in the forest litter and topsoil, and explore the effects of climate and tree species, we measured microclimate and collected the forest litter and topsoil(0-10 cm) samples across an elevational range of more than 2000 m(1243 ～ 3316 m a.s.l.),and analyzed the concentrations of BC in laboratory. Results showed that: 1) litter Ca concentration displayed a hump-shaped pattern along the elevational gradients, but litter K and Mg showed saddle-shaped patterns. Soil Ca concentration increased with elevation, while soil K and Mg had no significant changes. 2) Ca concentration in the forest litter under aspen(Populus davidiana) was significantly higher than that in all other species, but in topsoil, Ca concentration was higher under coniferous larch and fir(Larix chinensis and Abies fargesii). Litter K and Mg concentrations was higher under coniferous larch and fir, whereas there were nosignificant differences among tree species in the concentrations of K and Mg in topsoil. 3) Climatic factors including mean annual temperature(MAT), growing season precipitation(GSP) and non-growing season precipitation(NGSP) determined BC concentrations in the forest litter and topsoil. Soil C/N and C/P also influenced BC cycling between litter and soil. Observation along elevations within different tree species implies that above-ground tree species can redistribute below-ground cations, and this process is profoundly impacted by climate. Litter and soil Ca, K and Mg with different responses to environmental variables depend on their soluble capacity and mobile ability.

A water-soluble metallo-supramolecular polymer MSP-f-6Np,which possesses a regular pore aperture of 1.4 nm,has been assembled from a structurally flexible naphthalene-appended[Ru(bipy)3]^2+complex and cucurbit[8]*** the first periodic metallo-supramolecular polymer formed by a flexible building block,MSP-f-6Np exhibits a hydrodynamic diameter of 122 and 164 nm at 0.1 and 2.0 mM of the monomer *** small angle X-ray scattering experiments confirm that MSP-f-6Np possesses porosity periodicity in both the solution and solid *** with a control,the new highly ordered porous system displays enhanced photocatalytic activity for the degradation of organic dyes.

The two-dimensional(2D) materials with nodal line band crossing have been attracting great research interest. However, it remains a challenge to find high-stable nodal line structure in 2D systems. Herein, based on the first-principles calculations and theoretical analysis, we propose that monolayer B_(6)O possesses symmetry protected Dirac nodal line(DNL)state, with its Fermi velocity of 10^(6)m/s in the same order of magnitude as that of graphene. The origin of DNL fermions is induced by coexistence of time-reversal symmetry and inversion symmetry. A two-band tight-binding model is further given to understand the mechanism of DNL. Considering its robustness against spin–orbit coupling(SOC) and high structural stability, these results suggest monolayer B_(6)O as a new platform for realizing future high-speed low-dissipation devices.

Cyclic dinucleotides(CDNs) are known to activate stimulator of interferon genes(STING) and induce type I interferon responses, therefor possess great potentials to be of immunotherapeutic value for cancers and infectious diseases. However, the existence of different single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) of human STING(hSTING) gene poses an obstacle to achieve broad-spectrum activation by CDNs. We reported here the design and synthesis of a total of 36 CDNs, representing all structural variations, that contain four bases(A, G, C, U) and two linkage directions(2′-5′-linked and 3′-5′-linked phosphodiester).Through systematic evaluation of IFN-β induction with a dual-luciferase reporter assay, we discovered that wild type hSTING and two isoforms(HAQ and AQ) showed strong response while hSTING-R232 H and R293 Q exhibited the relatively weak response to CDNs stimulation. For the first time, we found that the c[G(2′,5′)U(2′,5′)] showed excellent activity against all five hSTING variants even equivalent to the endogenous ligand c[G(2′,5′)A(3′,5′)]. Furthermore, we have also demonstrated that 3′-3′CDNs with two 3′-5′ phosphodiesters showed higher serum and hydrolase stability than 2′-2′ CDNs with two 2′-5′ phosphodiesters and 2′-3′ CDNs with one 2′-5′ and one 3′-5′ phosphodiester. It is very interesting to note that 2′-2′ CDNs has been found for the first time to show strong activity. These findings will stimulate our exploration for the new functional role of CDNs, and provide guidelines to design CDNs based hSTING targeted drugs.

Isolation and identification of Sclerotinia stem rot causal pathogen in Arabidopsis thaliana

A new stem rot disease is found to occur naturally on Arabidopsis plants in greenhouses of Fuzhou, China. In order to identify its pathogen, we conducted a series of fungal isolation and purification, plant reinoculation, and ascus and ascospore induction from the sclerotia. The isolate caused typical water-soaked lesions after reinoculation and produced sclerotia both on Arabidopsis plants and culture medium plates, and the sclerotia could be induced to produce discal apothecia and 8 binucleate ascospores per ascus. These disease symptom and fungal morphology data revealed that the fungus Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary was the pathogen for Arabidopsis stem rot. To confirm this, we further amplified its large subunit ribosomal DNA (LSU rDNA) by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and compared the sequence with the known LSU rDNA sequences in GenBank. The results show that the sequence shares the highest identities with the LSU rDNAs of different S. sclerotiorum strains. Taking all these data together, we concluded that the fungus that caused the Arabidopsis stem rot is S. sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary. This is the first report that Arabidopsis is naturally infected by S. sclerotiorum.

OBJECTIVE: To elucidate the mechanisms underlying the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease(AD) with Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM), by examining the active components, potential targets and synthetic pathways of Bulao Elixir(BLE).METHODS: The Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion(ADME)/Toxicology(T) calculation was used to screen the active components of Bulao Elixir. Based on the TCM Systems Pharmacology Analysis Platform(TCMSP database) and a text mining tool(GoPubMed database), we predicted and screened the active components of Bulao Elixir and its therapeutic targets for AD. Using the Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery(DAVID), we obtained the targets for AD. Cytoscape software was used to establish a network map of the active component-target and target-pathway of Bulao Elixir. Gene function, related biological processes and signaling pathways were analyzed using the DAVID ***: Twelve active components were selected from 196 components of Bulao Elixir. Among 2209 targets, 102 effective targets were selected, and 30 important targets were identified via matching with the disease targets. After further analysis, 14 core targets were identified. Enrichment analysis revealed that most of these important targets were involved in multiple biological processes, including apoptosis, inflammatory reactions, and cell regulation cycles. The synthetic pathways for AD treatment were identified after analyzing and confirming the relevant pathways, providing potentially useful information for diagnosis and treatment methods for ***: The current study elucidated the potential treatment mechanisms of Bulao Elixir in AD using network pharmacology, providing a foundation for further clarification of its treatment targets.
