The molecular mechanisms underpinning temperature-dependent sex determination(TSD)in reptiles have attracted great biological interest for many years.However,which genetic factors are essential for TSD remain elusive,especially regarding female sex determination.Cytochrome P450 family 19 subfamily A member 1(Cyp19a1)encodes the endoplasmic reticulum enzyme aromatase,which participates in the catalytic conversion of androgens to estrogens,and is implicated in sexual differentiation in many species.However,whether Cyp19a1 plays a critical role in determining gonadal sexual fate in TSD species remains to be elucidated.In the current study,Cyp19a1 exhibited a temperature-dependent and sexually dimorphic expression pattern,preceding gonadal sex differentiation in a TSD turtle species(Mauremys reevesii).Sexual phenotype of the turtles was successfully reversed by aromatase inhibitor treatment at the female-producing temperature(FPT).Furthermore,exogenous estradiol(E2)treatment led to complete male-to-female sex reversal at the male-producing temperature(MPT),accompanied by rapid up-regulation of Cyp19a1.Thus,Cyp19a1 appears to be essential for female sex determination in M.reevesii,suggesting a vital role in the female TSD pathway.

Food availability significantly affects an animal＇s energy metabolism, and thus its phenotype, survival, and reproduction. Maternal and offspring responses to food conditions are critical for understanding population dynamics and life-history evolution of a species. In this study, we conducted food manipulation experiments in field enclosures to identify the effect of food restriction on female reproductive traits and postpartum body condition, as well as on hatchling phenotypes, in a lacertid viviparous lizard from the Inner Mongolian desert steppe of China. Females under low-food availability treatment （LFT） had poorer immune function and body condition compared with those under high-food availability treatment （HFT）. The food availability treatments significantly affected the litter size and litter mass of the females, but not their gestation period in captivity or brood success, or the body size sprint speed, and sex ratio of the neonates. Females from the LFT group had smaller litter sizes and, therefore, lower litter mass than those from the HFT group. These results suggest that female racerunners facing food restriction lay fewer offspring with unchanged body size and locomotor performance, and incur a cost in the form of poor postpartum body condition and immune function. The flexibility of maternal responses to variable food availability represents an important life strategy that could enhance the resistance of lizards to unpredictable environmental change.

The significant influence of thermal acclimation on physiological and behavioral performance has been documented in many ectothermic animals, but such studies are still limited in turtle species. We acclimated hatchling soft-shelled turtlesPelodiscus sinensisunder three thermal conditions (10, 20 and 30°C) for 4 weeks, and then measured selected body temperature (Tsel), critical thermal minimum (CTMin) and maximum (CTMax), and locomotor performance at different body temperatures. Thermal acclimation significantly affected thermal preference and resistance ofP. sinensishatchlings. Hatchling turtles acclimated to 10°C selected relatively lower body temperatures and were less resistant to high temperatures than those acclimated to 20°C and 30°C. The turtles’ resistance to low temperatures increased with a decreasing acclimation temperature. The thermal resistance range (i.e. the difference between CTMaxand CTMin, TRR) was widest in turtles acclimated to 20°C, and narrowest in those acclimated to 10°C. The locomotor performance of turtles was affected by both body temperature and acclimation temperature. Hatchling turtles acclimated to relatively higher temperatures swam faster than did those acclimated to lower temperatures. Accordingly, hatchling turtles acclimated to a particular temperature may not enhance the performance at that temperature. Instead, hatchlings acclimated to relatively warm temperatures have a better performance, supporting the “hotter is better” hypothesis.

The broad operating temperature range is sought for molecular ferroic materials who are expected to be applied to flexible and electronic materials.Hydrogen bonds,an effective force between molecules,are important to regulate the molecule structure and their condition,helping a higher temperature range for ferroic materials.Here,we report a molecular perovskite ferroelastic(Me-Hdabco)Rb[BF_(4)]_(3)(Me-Hdabco=N-methyldabconium)which shows high temperature(T_(1)=322.5 K and T_(2)=381K)ferroelastic phase transitions.The ferroelastic phase transition temperature range of(Me-Hdabco)Rb[BF_(4)]_(3) is significantly increased by 71 K compared with[Meda-bco-F]Rb[BF_(4)]_(3)(Medabco-F=1-fluoro-4-methyl-1,4-diazoniabicyclo[2.2.2]octane).Structural analysis and thermal analysis demonstrate the ferroelastic phase transition is mainly attributed to dynamic cations order and disorder transformation.Therefore,new hydrogen bonds generated between cations and the Rb_(8)[BF_(4)]_(12) frame increase their intermolecular force,which is beneficial to improving the phase transition temperature.This finding has an important impact on the utilization of weak interactionforces to design and optimize functional materials.

Acupuncture is one of the most effective complementary therapies for allergic rhinitis(AR)and has been recommended by several clinical practice guidelines(CPGs)for AR.However,these CPGs mentioned acupuncture without making recommendations for clinical implementation and therapeutic protocols,therefore limiting the applicability of acupuncture therapies for AR.Hence,for the benefit of acupuncture practitioners around the world,the World Federation of Acupuncture-moxibustion Societies have initiated a project to develop the CPG for the use of acupuncture and moxibustion to treat AR.This CPG was developed according to the Grading of Recommendations Assessment,Development,and Evaluation(GRADE)methodology,referring to the principles of the World Health Organization Handbook for Guideline Development.during the development of the CPG,the guideline development group(GDG)played an important role.The clinical questions,recommendations and therapeutic protocols were all formulated by the GDG using the modified Delphi method.The CPG contains recommendations for 15 clinical questions about the use of acupuncture and moxibustion interventions.These include one strong recommendation for the intervention based on high-quality evidence,three conditional recommendations for either the intervention or standard care,and 11 conditional recommendations for the intervention based on very low quality of evidence.The CPG also provides one filiform needle acupuncture protocol and five moxibustion protocols extracted based on the protocols presented in randomized controlled trials reviewed by the GDG.

Urinary incontinence (UI) is a common problem worldwide.It has a major impact on physical and social activities and interpersonal relationships.UI is common in women,but is under-reported and undertreated.It affects the quality of life of female patients severely.Acupuncture and moxibustion have been proposed as potentially effective interventions for female UI.Hence,for the benefit of acupuncture practitioners around the world,the World Federation of Acupuncture-moxibustion Societies initiated a project to develop a clinical practice guideline (CPG) for the use of acupuncture and moxibustion to treat female UI.This CPG was developed according to the Grading of Recommendations Assessment,Development,and Evaluation (GRADE) methodology,referring to the principles of the World Health Organization Handbook for Guideline Development.during the development of the CPG,the guideline development group (GDG) played an important role.The clinical questions,recommendations and therapeutic protocols were all formulated by GDG using the modified Delphi method.This CPG contains ten recommendations about the use of acupuncture and moxibustion interventions for ten clinical questions,which include nine conditional recommendations for the intervention and one conditional recommendation for either the intervention or the comparison.This CPG also provides one protocol for conventional filiform needle therapy,two therapy protocols for deep needling stimulation on lumbosacral acupoints,and four moxibustion therapy protocols,based on the protocols presented in randomized controlled trials reviewed by the GDG.

AIM:To investigate the types of bacteria in patients with eye infections in Suzhou and their drug resistance to commonly used antibacterial drugs.METHODS:The clinical data of 155 patients were retrospectively collected in this study,and the pathogenic bacteria species and drug resistance of each pathogenic bacteria were analyzed.RESULTS:Among the 155 patients(age from 12 to 87 years old,with an average age of 57,99 males and 56 females)with eye infections(160 eyes:74 in the left eye,76 in the right eye and 5 in both eyes,all of which were exogenous),71(45.81%)strains were gram-positive bacteria,23(14.84%)strains were gram-negative bacteria and 61(39.35%)strains were fungi.Gram-positive bacteria were highly resistant to penicillin and erythromycin(78.87%and 46.48%respectively),but least resistant to vancomycin at 0.Gram-negative bacteria were highly resistant to cefoxitin and compound sulfamethoxazole(100%and 95.65%respectively),but least resistant to meropenem at 0.Comparison of the resistance of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria to some drugs revealed statistically significant differences(Pduce complications caused by eye infections.

This paper presents the design of a vision-based automated robotic microinjection system for batch injection of both zebrafish embryos and larvae.A novel visual recognition algorithm based on an automatic threshold and excessive dilatation is introduced to accurately identify the center of zebrafish embryos and larval yolks.A corresponding software system is developed using the producer-consumer model as the framework structure,and a friendly user interface is designed to allow operators to choose from a range of desired functions according to their different needs.In addition,a novel microstructural agarose device is designed and fabricated to simultaneously immobilize mixed batches of embryos and larvae.Moreover,a prototype microinjection system is fabricated by integrating hardware devices with visual algorithms.An experimental study is conducted to verify the performance of the robotic microinjection system.The results show that the reported system can accurately identify zebrafish embryos and larvae and efficiently complete batch microinjection tasks of the mixtures with an injection success rate of 92.05%in 13.88 s per sample.Compared with manual and existing microinjection systems,the proposed system demonstrates the merits of versatility,excellent efficiency,high success rate,high survival rate,and sufficient stability.

As the chemical industry grapples with the need for more eco-friendly practices,the use of water as a reaction medium is gaining attraction in organic transformations.This mini-review delves into Pd-catalyzed reactions that utilize the "on-water" mechanism,spanning from 2019 to late 2023.These reactions are neatly categorized into several types: (A) Catalytic C—H activations,(B) Mizoroki- Heck-type reactions,(C) Suzuki-Miyaura reactions,and (D) Cyclization reactions.By showcasing the potential of water as a sustainable reaction medium for organic transformations,these reactions leave no doubt about the importance of embracing eco-friendly practices in the chemical industry.Key Scientists In 1980,a seminal work by Breslow et al.showed an acceleration of reaction rate in the Diels-Alder reaction.Sharpless and co-workers noted a significant increase in the rate of the [2σ+2σ+2π] cycloaddition of quadricyclane and dimethyl azodicarboxylate (DMAD) when the reaction was conducted in water,as opposed to when it was carried out in organic solvents.The term "on-water" was then coined to describe this phenomenon.This strategy was further expanded to transition-metal catalyzed transformations by Ackermann in 2011.Later,Varma and Leazer disclosed a Pd-catalyzed Mizoroki-Heck type arylation of alkenes with diaryliodonium salts “on-water”.The enantioselective version of "on-water" process was not realized until 2014 by the Zhou group.Later on,the Schaub group described a Pd-catalyzed Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reaction of electron-poor aryl chlorides with water,using only 50 ppm of catalyst loading.Very recently,Liu and Lin extended the "on-water" strategy to Pd-catalyzed double Mizoroki-Heck reactions.This mini-review has focused on Pd-catalyzed reactions involving the “on-water” mechanism.
