Protective Mechanism of Electroacupuncture on Peripheral Neurotoxicity Induced by Oxaliplatin in Rats

Objective:To study the effect of electroacupuncture(EA)on oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy(OIPN)in rats.Methods:Male Sprague-Dawley rats were equally divided into 3 groups using a random number table:the control group,the OIRN group,and the EA(OIPN+EA)group,with 10 rats in each.The time courses of mechanical,cold sensitivity,and microcirculation blood flow intensity were determined.The morphology of the dorsal root ganglion(DRG)was observed by electron microscopic examination.The protein levels of nuclear factor E2-related factor 2(Nrf2),heme oxygenase-1(HO-1),and the transient receptor potential(TRP)protein family in DRGs were assayed by Western blot.Results:EA treatment significantly reduced mechanical allodynia and cold allodynia in OIPN rats(P<0.01).Notably,oxaliplatin treatment resulted in impaired microcirculatory blood flow and pathomorphological defects in DRGs(P<0.01).EA treatment increased the microcirculation blood flow and attenuated the pathological changes induced by oxaliplatin(P<0.01).In addition,the expression levels of Nrf2 and HO-1 were down-regulated,and the TRP protein family was over-expressed in the DRGs of OIPN rats(P<0.01).EA increased the expression levels of Nrf2 and HO-1 and decreased the level of TRP protein family in DRG(P<0.05 or P<0.01).Conclusion:EA may be a potential alternative therapy for OIPN,and its mechanism may be mainly mediated by restoring the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway.

Selective lithium recovery from black powder of spent lithiumion batteries via sulfation reaction:phase conversion and impurities influence

The aim of this study is to present a new understanding for the selective lithium recovery from spent lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)via sulfation roasting.The composition of roasting products and reaction behavior of impurity elements were analyzed through thermodynamic calculations.Then,the effects of sulfuric acid dosage,roasting temperature,roasting time,and impurity elements were assessed on the leaching efficiency of valuable metals.Characterization methods such as X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy(SEM-EDS),and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)were employed to analyze the phase transformation mechanism during roasting process.The results indicate that after sulfation roasting(n(H_(2)SO_(4)):n(Li)=0.5,550℃,2 h),94%lithium can be selectively recovered by water leaching and more than 95%Ni,Co,and Mn can be leached through acid leaching without the addition of reduction agent.During the sulfation roasting process,the lithium in LiNi_(x)Mn_(y)Co_zO_(2)is mainly converted to Li_(2)SO_(4),while the Ni,Co and Mn are first transformed to sulfate and then converted into oxide form.In addition,impurity elements such as Al and F will combine with lithium to form LiF and LiAlO_(2),which will reduce the leaching rate of lithium.These results provide a new understanding on the mechanisms of phase conversion during sulfation roasting and reveal the influence of impurity elements for the lithium recovery from spent LIBs.

Numerical investigation of basic oxygen furnace slag modification with gas bottom-blowing and SiO_(2) modifier

To avoid the volume expansion of basic oxygen furnace (BOF) slag for use in building materials, a hot slag modification process was proposed to reduce free CaO (f-CaO) in the molten slag. A transient 3D numerical model of BOF molten slag modification by SiO_(2) particles was established. The flow and heat transfer of molten slag, movement and dissolution of the modifier, and concentration distribution of f-CaO in slag during the modification of BOF were studied. The distribution of f-CaO concentration is inhomogeneous all over the molten slag. The mixing effect at the slag surface is weaker than that at the half-height plane of the slag. To consume the f-CaO below 2.0 wt.% in the slag, the optimum quantity of the SiO_(2) modifier is 10.0% of the mass of the slag. The fine SiO_(2) particles help attain a lower final mass fraction of f-CaO and a higher SiO_(2) utilization ratio.

Construction and Optimization of Liquefied Natural Gas Regasification Cold Energy Comprehensive Utilization System on Floating Storage Regasification Unit

In this paper, the efficient utilization of liquefied natural gas(LNG) vaporization cold energy in offshore liquefied natural gas floating storage regasification unit(FSRU) is studied. On the basis of considering different boil-off gas(BOG) practical treatment processes, a cascade comprehensive utilization scheme of cold energy of LNG based on the longitudinal three-stage organic Rankine cycle power generation and the low-grade cold energy used to frozen seawater desalination was proposed. Through the comparative analysis of the effects of the pure working fluid and eight mixed working fluids on the performance of the new system, the combination scheme of system mixed working fluid with the highest exergy efficiency of the system was determined. Then, the genetic algorithm was used to optimize the parameters of the new system. After optimization, the net output power of the LNG cold energy comprehensive utilization system proposed in this paper was 5186 kW, and the exergy efficiency is 30.6%. Considering the power generation and freshwater revenue, the annual economic benefit of the system operating is 18.71 million CNY.

Disruption of egg-specific protein causes female sterility in Bombyx mori

Yolk proteins are the main source of nutrients during embryonic and early larval development in oviparous animals. Therefore, vitellogenesis is crucial for reproduction. The silkworm, Bombyx mori, is a model lepidopteran insect in which there are three yolk proteins: vitellin, 30-kDa protein, and egg-specific protein (Esp). In this study, we explored the gene function of Esp through transgenic clustered regularly interspaced palindromic repeats (CRISPR) / CRISPR-associated protein 9 technology-mediated mutations in the silkworm. We found that Esp mutation resulted in female sterility but had no effect on male fertility. Female mutants could lay eggs after mating, but the eggs were smaller and lighter colored than those laid by wild-type females. The most important finding is that the eggs laid by female mutants did not hatch. Furthermore, we observed stable inheritance of female sterility caused by Esp mutation through successive generations. Thus, Esp encodes a yolk protein that is crucial for female reproductive success and is a potential target for pest control.

Prognosis of Liver Transplantation for Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Terms of Different Criteria:A Single Center Experience

Objective Patients undergoing liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)within the Milan criteria have an excellent outcome.We developed a program to analyze and prove that the Milan criteria can be expanded safely and effectively.Methods We retrospectively reviewed 117 HCC patients treated with liver transplantation between January 2013 and December 2017.Patients were grouped according to the Milan criteria,the University of California,San Francisco(UCSF)criteria,Up-to-seven criteria and Hangzhou criteria.Tumor-free and overall survival rates were investigated with a Kaplan-Meier analysis.Multivariable regression Cox models produced survival estimates for the patients that exceeded the Milan criteria.Results The 1-year,3-year and 5-year overall survival rates of patients fulfilling the Milan criteria(n=44)were 100%,87.5%and 78.9%,respectively.Compared with the Milan criteria,the UCSF criteria(n=50),Up-to-seven criteria(n=51)and Hangzhou criteria(n=86)provided an expansion of 13.6%,15.9%and 95.9%,respectively.The 1-year,3-year and 5-year overall survival rates of patients fulfilling UCSF criteria,Up-to-seven criteria and Hangzhou criteria were 96.0%,84.9%,76.9%;96.1%,85.2%,77.6%and 97.7%,83.9%,66.7%,respectively(P>0.05).Multifactor Cox regression showed that tumor diameter and microvascular invasion were independent risk factors for survival in patients that exceeded the Milan criteria.Conclusion Compared with the Milan criteria,the Hangzhou criteria can safely expand the scope of liver transplantation for HCC to a certain extent.By contrast,the UCSF criteria and Up-to-seven criteria result in a limited number of patients which need further expansion.Tumor diameter and microvascular invasion were the independent risk factors for survival in patients that exceeded the Milan criteria.

The reaction of 2-pyridylacetates andα,β-unsaturated pyrazolamides with DBU as the catalyst has been developed.A range of unexplored multisubstituted 2,3-dihydro-4H-quinolizin-4-ones are obtained with satisfactory yields(up to 94%)and excellent diastereoselectivities(all cases>20:1 dr)via a dearomative[3+3]annulation process.This practical method also features transition metal free,mild reaction conditions,wide functional group tolerance,easy scale-up synthesis,and versatile further derivatization.

Endocannabinoid system is related with various physiological and cognitive processes including fertility,pregnancy,during pre-and postnatal development,pain-sensation,mood,appetite,and memory.In the latest decades,an important milestone concerning the endocannabinoid system was the discovery of the existence of the cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2.Anandamide was the first reported endogenous metabolite,which adjusted the release of some neurotransmitters through binding to the CB1 or CB2 receptors.Then a series of cannabinomimetric lipids were extracted from marine organisms,which possessed similar structure with anandamide.This review will provide a short account about cannabi-nomimetric lipids for their extraction and synthesis.

Multi-Objective Optimization of Aluminum Alloy Electric Bus Frame Connectors for Enhanced Durability

The widespread adoption of aluminumalloy electric buses,known for their energy efficiency and eco-friendliness,faces a challenge due to the aluminum frame’s susceptibility to deformation compared to steel.This issue is further exacerbated by the stringent requirements imposed by the flammability and explosiveness of batteries,necessitating robust frame protection.Our study aims to optimize the connectors of aluminum alloy bus frames,emphasizing durability,energy efficiency,and safety.This research delves into Multi-Objective Coordinated Optimization(MCO)techniques for lightweight design in aluminum alloy bus body connectors.Our goal is to enhance lightweighting,reinforce energy absorption,and improve deformation resistance in connector components.Three typical aluminum alloy connectors were selected and a design optimization platform was built for their MCO using a variety of software and methods.Firstly,through three-point bending experiments and finite element analysis on three types of connector components,we identified optimized design parameters based on deformation patterns.Then,employing Optimal Latin hypercube design(OLHD),parametric modeling,and neural network approximation,we developed high-precision approximate models for the design parameters of each connector component,targeting energy absorption,mass,and logarithmic strain.Lastly,utilizing the Archive-based Micro Genetic Algorithm(AMGA),Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization(MOPSO),and Non-dominated SortingGenetic Algorithm(NSGA2),we explored optimized design solutions for these joint components.Subsequently,we simulated joint assembly buckling during bus rollover crash scenarios to verify and analyze the optimized solutions in three-point bending simulations.Each joint component showcased a remarkable 30%–40%mass reduction while boosting energy absorption.Our design optimization method exhibits high efficiency and costeffectiveness.Leveraging contemporary automation technology,the design optimization platform developed in this study is poised

Controlled Fabrication of Uniform Digital Nanorods from Precise Sequence-Defined Amphiphilic Polymers in Aqueous Media

Compared with spherical micelles,rod/worm-like micelles not only have extended blood circulation duration,but also exhibit favorable cellular uptake behavior,which is promising for next-generation nanomedicine and biomaterials.However,the controllable fabrication of narrowly dispersed nanorods in aqueous media is still challenging.Herein,the methodology of thermal annealing was developed for the fabrication of helical nanorods as well as a series of nanorods with different lengths.The thermal annealing process generally consisted of adding a percentage of organic solvent(10%(V/V)or 20%(V/V))to the digital micellar aqueous dispersion,followed by heating at 90℃for 1 h,then cooling naturally to room temperature,and dialyzing against water to remove the organic solvent.Right-handed helical nanorods were afforded by the treatment of 45 nm digital micelles in the presence of 10%(V/V)dioxane,while left-handed helical nanorods were obtained in the presence of 20%(V/V)dioxane.Meanwhile,the controlled growth of rod-like digital micelles was achieved after thermal annealing in the presence of different types of organic solvents,and the length of the annealed nanorods was correlated with the types of organic solvent.Furthermore,no matter the size of initial digital micelles,they all exhibited similar trend of rod growth in the presence of a certain amount of organic solvent,allowing for controllable formulation of narrowly dispersed nanorods.In addition,supramolecular self-assembly by amphiphilic dendritic oligourethane readily fabricated diverse uniform nanorods in aqueous media.Overall,this work provided an attractive methodology to fabricate uniform digital nanorods.
