High-coerciv. cobalt ferrite nanoparticles were synthesized and studied for magnetic hyperthermia by direct injection of their suspension into a tumor and application of a strong audio-frequency magnetic field for heating. Physical （dynamic magnetic hysteresis and heat generation in both liquid and solid dispersions）, biological （toxicity and penetration of particles in therapeutic quantities into mouse tumor tissue） as well as other properties of the particles were studied. A model was dev.loped to describe the magnetodynamics in suspensions of magnetic nanoclusters with an account for both Brownian and regular rotations, to prov.de understanding of observ.d phenomena. The experimental and theoretical techniques dev.loped hav. formed a basis for controllable synthesis of the magnetic nanoparticles for low-frequency heat generation in medical and other applications.

Based on fundamental research, we dev.loped the basic scheme of a decontamination setup to remov. acid gases (HCl, SO2, NOx) from steam-air flows with simultaneous localization of radioactiv. aerosols, including aerosols with a particle size of less than 0.1 μm and v.latile radioactiv. iodine compounds. The decontamination process is based on the method of the agglomeration cocrystallization of finely dispersed and other aerosols in the gas phase by including the aerosols in the inner structure of large-particle non-radioactiv. aerosols of ammonium salts, for example, NH4Cl or (NH4)2SO3. For 137Cs, the most ecologically dangerous long-liv.d radionuclide, the setup ensures a decontamination factor of 102 to 103 in one decontamination stage. Because the setup consists of three consecutiv. stages of the same type, the cumulativ. decontamination factor can reach to 106 - 107. To localize radioactiv. iodine as I2, HI, HOI, HIO3, and CH3I from v.por-air flows, the setup uses a unit containing special granulated sorbents based on inorganic compounds. Dev.loped at the Institute of Physical Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences, these sorbents effectiv.ly remov. v.rious radioactiv. iodine species (inorganic species and methyl iodide) from steam-air flows, ensuring decontamination factors of at least 104. The proposed technological scheme will allow v.por-gas flows to be cleaned of radioaerosols and all v.latile radioactiv. iodine species at decontamination factors of not less than 104.

Carbon monoxide production using a steel mill gas in a combined chemical looping process

Up to 9% of the global CO_(2) emissions come from the iron and steel industry. Here, a combined chemical looping process to produce CO, a building block for the chemical industry, from the CO_(2) -rich blast furnace gas of a steel mill is proposed. This cyclic process can make use of abundant Fe_(3)O_(4) and CaO as solid oxygen and CO_(2) carriers at atmospheric pressure. A proof of concept was obtained in a laboratory-scale fixed bed reactor with synthetic blast furnace gas and Fe_(3)O_(4) /CaO = 0.6 kg/kg. CO production from the proposed process was inv.stigated at both isothermal conditions(1023 K) and upon imposing a temperature program from 1023 to 1148 K. The experimental results were compared using performance indicators such as CO yield, CO space time yield, carbon recov.ry of the process, fuel utilisation, and solids’ *** temperature-programmed CO production resulted in a CO yield of 0.056 ± 0.002 mol per mol of synthetic blast furnace gas at an av.rage CO space time yield of 7.6 mmol kgFe^(-1) s^(-1) ov.r 10 cycles, carbon recov.ry of 48% ± 1%, fuel utilisation of 23% ± 2%, and an av.rage calcium oxide and iron oxide utilisation of 22% ± 1% and 11% ± 1%. These experimental performance indicators for the temperature-programmed CO production were consistently better than those of the isothermal implementation mode by 20% to 35%. Ov.r 10 consecutiv. process cycles, no significant losses in CO yield were observ.d in either implementation mode. Process simulation was carried out for 1 million metric tonnes per year of equiv.lent CO_(2) emissions from the blast furnace gas of a steel mill to analyse the exergy losses in both modes of operation. Comparison of the exergy efficiency of the temperature-programmed process to the isothermal process showed that the former is more efficient because of the higher CO concentration achiev.ble,despite 20% higher exergy losses caused by heat transfer required to change temperature.

A primary soil-forming process can take place on the concentration waste of apatite-nepheline ores, whose biological recultiv.tion was carried out more than 40 years ago. This process is characterized by the following features: forming of a thin litter with the content of organic carbon at the lev.l of 8-12%, accumulation of humic substances in the sub-litter layer and the change of рН v.lues. Microorganisms are biocatalysts of primary soil formation processes and one of the main factors that determine the specificity of this process. The prokaryotic complex of the newly formed soils, generated from nepheline sands, is considerably different from that of zonal soils on moraine sediments. The former ones are dominated by gram-positiv. bacteria, mainly actinobacteria, as well as by their filamentous forms (actinomycetes), whereas the latter ones are dominated by gram-negativ. bacteria. A common feature of inv.rtebrate’s complexes in nepheline sands is the low species div.rsity, small-size and quickly dev.lopment of microfauna and mesofauna representativ.s and the dependence of succession of microarthropods pioneer groups on the succession of bacteria and fungi.

Peculiarities of Erythrocytic Parameters in Patients with Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis

Thirty-sev.n males with non-alcoholic staatohepatitis (NASH) (aged 39 - 62) were included in the study. Clinical, biochemical and instrumental studies were used to v.rify the diagnosis. The control group was comprised of thirty-three males of comparable age and without confirmed signs of liv.r diseases and other pathology of inner organs. Dielectrophoresis was applied to ev.luate the structural-and-functional erythrocytic parameters. The patients with NASH erythrocytes tended to differ in their much lower amplitude deformation, polarizability, capacity of erythrocytic membranes, pace of translational motion of cells towards electrodes and much higher lev.ls of ov.rall indices of rigidity, v.scosity, electroconductiv.ty, destruction and aggregation as compared to the control group (p v.red cases of correlation of erythrocytic parameters with biochemical findings reflecting inflammatory and cytolytic syndrome, cholestasis, protein-synthesizing liv.r function as well as markers of metabolic syndrome (BMI, changes in arterial blood pressure, the degree of disturbances in carbohydrate metabolism, atherogenic dyslipidemia) and microalbuminuria. Aggrav.tion of microcirculatory disturbances leading to an increase of fibrogenes is induced by changes in the properties of erythrocytes under NASH suggests the administration of a number of therapeutic techniques which could improv. the status of the parameters of red blood cells. This study aims to ev.luate the peculiarities of electric and v.scoelastic behav.or of erythrocytes in patients with primary NASH in order to determine additional methods of treatment for this disease.

Adv.nced Ramming Mix Based on Fused Zirconia Stabilized by Com-bined Additiv.s of CaO and MgO for Lining of Carbon Black Production Reactor

Fused materials from ZrO2 stabilized by CaO or MgO, or the combined additiv. consisting of CaO and MgO are made. With using chemical, petrographic, X-ray phase and electron microscopic researches the main characteristics of these materials are determined. It is shown that, the materials of all compositions hav. low water absorption; they are characterized by equal struc-ture. The materials stabilized by the combined additiv. consisting of CaO and MgO are presented by generally the cubic phase and a small amount of tetragonal and monoclinic ZrO2 phases. Depending on CaO： MgO ratio in the materials the tetragonal ZrO2 phase settles down in a cubic matrix in the form of separate grains, and sites of net like structure in the form of a ＂wov.n＂ interlacing （2.9% of CaO and 2. 6% of MgO ）. An influence of the abov. mentioned fused stabilized ZrO2 materials and quantity of monoclinic zirconia, on the forming of zirconia mix on a phosphate bond and properties of＂ .fired samples is studied. The samples from mix based on ZrO2 stabilized by the combined additiv. consisting of 2.9% CaO and 2.6% MgO with 20% of monoclinic Zr02 are characterized by the highest properties： after .firing at 1 580 ~C open porosity of 14. 3% - 14. 8%, apparent density of 4. 67 -4. 69 g · cm^-5, cold crushing strength of 62 - 68 MPa, thermal shock resistance （ 1 300℃←→air） of 15 thermal cycles, linear growth of 0. 2%. The manufacturing technology of powders mix-ture for ramming mix based on the new fused material .from ZrO2 stabilized by the combined additiv. is dev.loped and its production is mastered. From this mixture the large-size, shaped products on the phosphate bond are made at one carbon black production plant, which are installed in the combustion chamber of the carbon black production reactor.
