Model acupuncture point:Bone marrow-derived stromal stem cells are moved by a weak electromagnetic field

AIM To show the existence of a structural formative role of magnetic fields(MFs) with respect to biological objects by using our proposed model of an *** We introduced a magnetised 10-100 μT metal rod(needle) into culture dishes with a negatively charged working surface and observed during 24 h how cells were arranged by MFs and by electrical fields(EFs) when attached. Rat and human bone marrow-derived stromal stem cells(r BMSCs and h BMSCs), human nonadherent mononuclear blood cells, NCTCs and A172 cells, and Escherichia coli(E. coli) were evaluated. The dish containing BMSCs was defined as the model of an acupoint. r BMSCs proliferative activity affected by the needle was investigated. For investigating electromagnetic field structures, we used the gas discharge visualisation(GDv) *** During 24 h of incubation in 50-mm culture dishes, BMSCs or the nonadherent cells accumulated into a central heap in each dish. BMSCs formed a torus(central ring) with an inner diameter of approximately10 mm only upon the introduction of the needle in the centre of the dish. The cells did not show these effects in 35- or 90-mm culture dishes or hydrophobic dishes or rectangular cuvettes. NCTCs and A172 cells showed unstable the effects and only up to two weeks after thawing. Moreover, we observed that the appearance of these effects depended on the season. In winter, BMSCs showed no the effects. GDv experiments revealed that the resonant annular illumination gradually formed from 10 to 18-20 s in polar solutions with and without cell suspension of BMSCs, NCTCs and E. coli when using circular 50-mm dishes, stimulation at 115 v and switching of the electrode poles at 1 kH z. All these data demonstrate the resonant nature of the central ring. Gender identification using acoustic analysis in birds without external sexual dimorphism

Impact of mine waters on chemical composition of soil in the Partizansk Coal Basin, Russia

Partizansk Coal Basin,located in the south of the Russian Far Eastern Region,was intensively mined from 1918 until *** it was mostly explored by underground excavation,the natural landscapes were transformed into anthropogenic *** the mines closed,ground subsidence occurred widely,especially in areas near the waste *** caused water tables to rise to the surface and pollute the *** of the hydrochemical composition of the mine waters were conducted in 2011-2013,and showed low alkalinity and average level of *** can be explained by the fact that while going up through soil mass,the mine waters lost their much of their pollutants due to soil buffering All mine water samples contain thermo-tolerant coliform bacteria *** that indicates a source of fresh fecal *** research indicates increased hydrocarbon ion concentrations in mine waters,especially in autumn,that resulted in accumulation of chromium and copper compounds,which can cause soil pollution.A strong relationship between the chemical composition of the mine waters and soil extracts was found within areas of unregulated groundwater discharge on the *** negative correlation between pH and content of metal compounds including chromium and copper was found at the 'Avangard' mine (r =-0.95);and between alkalinity and chromium content at the 'Glubokaya' mine (r =-0.94).

Effects of basement structural and stratigraphic heritages on volcano behaviour and implications for human activities （the IGCP project 455）

The IGCP project 455 （2001-2005） is intended to con- tribute to the comprehension of volcano behaviour in different geodynamic settings from a poorly known perspective： the reciprocal influence exerted by volcanoes on their substrate and by the basement on the volcanoes. The main task is to assess the role of this influence in determining natural geological hazards such as eruptions, landslides and earthquakes. The geologic-tectonic control of the substrate on the volcanoes has been usually considered questionable or less important than the conditions of the deep magma source, whereas the control of volcanoes on their basement has even received very little attention. This project improves the comprehension of these phenomena by a strong interdisciplinary approach that ties data on the various geological conditions and heritages of the basement with the deformation processes and geological evolution of different volcanic edifices. We compiled stratigraphic, structural, geomorphological, geophysical, geotechnical, petrographic, geochemical and geochronological data. These data have been transferred to the laboratory-working groups, thus providing realistic numerical and physical simulation even of complex geological structures. Here we present a selection of the main results obtained for some of the studied key volcanoes. Alicudi （Italy） located in a low-tectonic rate setting, Stromboli （Italy） in extensional tectonic setting, Reventador （Ecuador） in compressional setting, and the Northern volcanic Group of Kamchatka （Russia）, Galeras （Colombia） and Mayon （Philippines） in a transtensional setting.

COMPARATIvE TREATMENT OF ACNE vULGARIS USING PALOMAR LUX APPLIQU´E TECHNIQUE AND DIRECT INTRALESIONAL INJECTION

Intralesional injection of triamcinolone(TMC)preparations is an effective therapy for cystic acne ***,invasive delivery techniques limit the use of this modality to a relatively narrow class of *** permeability can be enhanced through creating a lattice of microzones(islets)of light-induced limited thermal damage in the upper layers of *** this paper,we directly compared safety and efficacy of delivering TMC acetonide with this novel technique versus conventional intralesional injection for treatment of inflammatory acne lesions.A combination of an intense pulsed light system and a specially designed appliqu´e with a pattern of absorbing centers has been used to create the lattice of islets of damage(LID).Quantitative analysis has included estimation of the following parameters:redness,diameter,and height of acne *** photography has been used to document dynamics of lesion development at successive visits(two hours,24 hours and one week post-treatment).Seven subjects have participated in the *** difference in lesion dynamics between the treatment and control groups was observed at two-hours *** 24-hours/one-week follow-ups,TMC-injected and TMC-LID-delivered groups have demonstrated 82%/93%and 80%/89%improvement in height of lesions in comparison to control(60%/68%).Delivery of TMC with the newly proposed LID technique is at least as effective as intralesional injection for treating inflammatory acne *** of skin permeability using LID approach is a promising technique for accelerating delivery of various compounds to their target areas in the skin.

Kinetics and mechanism of the low-energy β-a phase transition of the second kind in 2,4-dinitroanisole

In this work, comprehensive studies of 2,4-dinitroanisole(2,4DNAN) were carried out using powder thermorentgenography of the internal standard. The time of the complete polymorphic transition in the solid phase β→a in 2,4DNAN under various combinations of conditions has been determined. It has been established that, regardless of the season of manufacture of the substance, when it is stored for 8-9months, with a change in ambient temperature from minus 30℃ to plus 30℃, a complete polymorphic transition β→a occurs. When stored in conditions below minus 5℃, polymorphic transition does not occur. When stored in conditions above plus 30℃ in a closed container, polymorphic transition occurs within 3 weeks. The polymorphic transition is accompanied by a decrease in density by 1.3%-1.5% and an increase in melting temperature by 10-12℃, depending on the degree of purity of the starting substance. The activation energy of the molecular rearrangement was 68-70 k J/mol(16.5 ± 3 kcal/mol). The mechanism of polymorphic transition has been evaluated, which is presumably based on internal homodiffusion and energy transfer to the surface of the mass of powder particles and the product. The average activation energy of the polymorphic transition process was 110 ± 6.2 k J/mol(26.2 kcal/mol). In an open container, reactions proceed by a homogeneous mechanism, and in a closed container by a heterogeneous mechanism involving the gas phase.

Aims Deforestation and biodiversity loss are two alarming,closely related problems,and the main factors triggering changes in land *** agricultural practices in the western Amazon Basin are known as chakras,and their structure and dynamics are seemingly optimal for forest ***,the variability in tree spe-cies and the degree of forest recovery after abandonment is poorly documented in this agroforestry system(AFS).The goals of this study were:(i)to investigate whether the different AFSs(chakras)preserve similar levels of forest diversity,(ii)to determine the effect of trans-formation of mature forests(MF)to chakras,in particular,forest alpha and beta diversity levels,and(iii)to investigate whether native tree species recovery leads to the original forest structure following chakra *** We assessed the floristic composition in three AFSs(cassava,corn,and cocoa),the secondary forest(SF),and the forest remnants in the buffer zone of the Northern Ecuadorian Amazon(NEA).All tree spe-cies with a diameter at breast height(dbh)≥10 cm were inventoried in 61 plots(0.28 ha average)representing 17.44 *** diversity was calculated in all systems to determine the levels of variabil-ity using species richness and the Shannon diversity ***,beta diversity was examined to evaluate the degree of dissimilarity among all AFSs with the MF in order to analyze changes in floristic *** divergence between the SF and the MF was ana-lyzed to ascertain forest recovery after chakra *** Findings A total of 4,060 trees(dbh≥10 cm)representing 109 species,96 genera,and 43 plant families were inventoried in 17.44 ha sampled in five systems in the buffer zone of the *** most dominant plant families were Arecaceae,Myristicaceae,Fabaceae,Meliaceae,and Malvaceae,and the most representative genera included Iriartea,virola,Guarea,Ocotea,Cordia,Chrysophyllum,and *** MF in this zone is composed of 81 tree species circums
