Inflatable Models

A physically-based model is presented for the simulation of a new type of deformable objects-inflatable objects, such as shaped balloons, which consist of pressurized air enclosed by an elastic surface. These objects have properties inherent in both 3d and 2d elastic bodies, as they demonstrate the behaviour of 3d shapes using 2d formulations. As there is no internal structure in them, their behaviour is substantially different from the behaviour of deformable solid objects. We use one of the few available models for deformable surfaces, and enhance it to include the forces of internal and external pressure. These pressure forces may also incorporate buoyancy forces, to allow objects filled with a low density gas to float in denser media. The obtained models demonstrate rich dynamic behaviour, such as bouncing, floating, deflation and inflation.

AIM To investigate the effect of dietary fiber on symptoms and esophageal function testing parameters in nonerosive gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERd)(NERd) *** Thirty-six NERd patients with low(d) dietary fiber intake were enrolled in the study. They were examined with the use of symptom questionnaire(GERd-Q), highresolution esophageal manometry, 24-h esophageal p Himpedance examinations, and food frequency questionnaire before and after 10 d of usual diet supplemented by psyllium 5.0 g TId. Complete data of 30 patients were available to the final analysis. The obtained results were analyzed with the use of non-parametric statistics(Wilcoxon matched pairs test). RESULTS The number of patients experiencing heartburn was less(93.3% at baseline vs 40% at the end of the study, P d the GERd-Q score decreased(mean ± Sd: 10.9 ± 1.7 vs 6.0 ± 2.3, P d. Minimal resting lower esophageal sphincter(LES) pressure increased from 5.41 ± 10.1 to 11.3 ± 9.4 mm Hg(P = 0.023), but no change in residual LES pressure and mean resting pressure was found. Total number of gastroesophageal refluxes(GER) decreased from 67.9 ± 17.7 to 42.4 ± 13.5(P dominantly by acid and weak acid types of GERs. No significant change in mean esophageal p H and % of time p H d. Maximal reflux time decreased from 10.6 ± 12.0 min to 5.3 ± 3.7 min(P d diet led to a significant increase of minimal lower esophageal sphincter resting pressure, a decrease of number of gastroesophageal refluxes, and a decrease of heartburn frequency per week in NERd.

A series of Sc,Y,Ce,Pr,Nd,Sm,Eu,Gd,Tb,Ho,Er,Tm and Yb complexes with oxybenzoquinoline ligands(BQ) was synthesized by the reactions of 10-hydroxybenzo[h]quinoline with cyclopentadienides or tris(trimethylsilyl)amides of rare earth *** structure,as well as the photo-and electroluminescent(PL,EL) properties of these complexes in solutions and solid state were *** solutions,complexes of sodium and lanthanides exhibit double peaked ligand-centered PL of enol and keto forms of BQ with a quantum yield of 1%-8%.In the solid state the complexes of Sm,Eu,Ho,Nd,Er,and Yb along with the ligand-centered PL also exhibit a moderate-intensity metal-centered PL which is characteristic of the corresponding Ln^(3+) ***(BQ)_(3) complex shows bright green EL which has intensity comparable to the best results observed for scandium complexes with other organic ligands.

The monophthalocyanine complexes of samarium and terbium containing axial 2-mercaptobenzothiazole（Pc Sm（MBT）（1））, 2-（2-benzoxazol-2-yl） phenolate（Pc Tb（OON）（2）） or 2-（2-benzothiazol-2-yl）phenolate（Pc Tb（SON）（3）） ligands were synthesized and identified by elemental, LdI-TOF and X-ray（for 1） ***（PL） and electroluminescence（EL） spectra of the compounds contained only emission bands of phthalocyanine and axial ligands but did not contain the bands of f-f *** was found that among the complexes 1, 2, 3 the latter had highest photoconductivity（~10–7 S/cm） and photovoltaic *** organic photovoltaic device（OPV） of configuration of ITO/3/C60/Alq3/Al revealed open-circuit voltage（VOC） of 0.24 V and short current density（ISC） of 0.3 μA/cm2 under illumination by a xenon lamp at 17 m W/cm2.

AIM: to evaluate addition of boceprevir to peginterferon/ribavirin(PR) in Russian patients with chronic hepatitis C virus(HCV).METHOdS: treatment-naive(t N) and treatmentexperienced(t E) patients(who had failed prior treatment with PR for ≥ 12 wk) with chronic HCV genotype 1 infection were enrolled in this placebocontrolled, double-blind study. All patients initially received PR for 4 wk. Patients randomized to control treatment then received PR for an additional 44 wk. t N patients randomized to triple therapy received boceprevir(800 mg three times daily) plus PR for 24 wk and then further therapy according to treatment week 8(t W8) HCV RNA levels. t E patients received boceprevir plus PR for 32 wk and then further therapy according to t W8 HCV RNA levels. treatment was discontinued for t N patients with detectable HCV RNA at t W24 and t E patients with detectable HCV RNA at t W12 because of futility. the primary efficacy end point was sustained virologic response(SVR) defined as undetectable HCV RNA 24 wk after completing all study ***: SVR was 74.8% in the boceprevir plus PR arm compared with 46.2% in the control arm, with a stratification-adjusted treatment difference of 29.2%(95%CI: 16.4-41.5; P d t E patient groups(t N 78.4% vs 56.3%; t E 69.4% vs 30.0%). Within t E patients, the rates of SVR were higher with boceprevir plus PR compared with PR, regardless of treatment failure type(null responder, partial responder, and relapser). Most patients receiving boceprevir plus PR in both t N(86%) and t E(71%) populations were eligible for reduced treatment duration. Anemia was increased in patients receiving boceprevir plus PR vs PR alone(47.2% vs 24.4%); there was a corresponding increase in ribavirin dose reduction and erythropoietin use. Among patients receiving boceprevir plus PR, SVR rates were similar in patients with anemia(d L) and those without anemia(71.2% vs 77.4%).C

Effects of two doses of the anti-diabetic drug, metformin （MF）, on hormonal and metabolic levels of serum of non-diabetic male Wistar rats with 1,2-dimethylhydrazine （dMH）-induced colon tumor adenocarcinomas were studied. Carcinogenesis in the animals was also observed. Rats with dMH-induced colon adenocarcinomas had elevated levels of serum glucose, insulin, insulin- like growth factor-l, total cholesterol, triglycerides, catalase, malonic dialdehyde, glycated hemoglobin, aspartate aminotransferase, and alanine aminotransferase and decreased hemoglobin. Treatment with two doses of MF normalized maiority of these changes in dMH-treated rats, whereas the drug was ineffective in rats without dMH treatment. The only exception was the decreased triglyceride levels in MF-treated rats. A 100 mg/kg dose of MF increased dMH-induced exophytic colon carcinomas and decreased endophytic tumors compared with untreated rats. Moreover, both MF doses increased dMH-induced and highly differentiated tumors and decreased the invasiveness of colon carcinomas compared with rats provided with dMH and water. Therefore, effects of MF on metabolic homeostasis are critical for preventing colon cancer.
