Standard m.thod design considerations for sem.-quantification of total naphthenic acids in oil sands process affected water by m.ss spectrom.try： A review

Naphthenic acids are a com.lex class of thousands of naturally occurring aliphatic and alicyclic carboxylic acids found in oil sands bitum.n and in the wastewater generated from.bitum.n processing. Dozens of analytical m.thods have been developed for the sem.quantification of total naphthenic acids in water sam.les. However, different m.thods can give different results, prom.ting investigation into the com.arability of the m.ny m.thods. A review of im.ortant m.thodological features for analyzing total naphthenic acids is presented and inform. the design of future standard m.thods for the sem.- quantification of total naphthenic acids using m.ss spectrom.try. The design considerations presented are a synthesis of discussions from.an Environm.nt and Clim.te Change Canada （ECCC） led taskforce of 10 laboratory experts from.governm.nt, industry and academ.a during April 2016 and subsequent discussions between University of British Colum.ia and ECCC representatives. m.tters considered are： extraction m.thod, solvent, pH, and tem.erature; analysis instrum.ntation and resolution; choice of calibration standards; use of surrogate and internal standards; and use of online or offline separation prior to analysis. The design considerations are am.nable to both tim.-of-flight and Orbitrap m.ss spectrom.ters.

Influence of oxygen non-stoichiom.try on physical properties of NdSr_2m._2O_(7±δ)

Nd Sr2m.2O7＋δ com.ounds were synthesized by ceram.c m.thod under three different cooling conditions. The Nd Sr2m.2O7＋δ sam.les were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction（XRD）. Oxygen non-stoichiom.try data for the studied powders were determ.ned by using gravim.tric and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy（XPS） m.thods. The correlation of cooling m.thod and oxygen as non-stoichiom.try was established. The electroconductivity in sam.les was studied by using four-point probe m.thod, and the strong correlation with non-stoichiom.try was found out. m.gnetization m.asurem.nts were carried out. It was found that the m.gnetic and transport properties of the sam.les were also influenced by oxygen non-stoichiom.try. The evolution of the m.gnetic properties could be explained by the form.tion of m.gnetic clusters in the vicinity of oxygen vacancies（Ov） and strong com.etition between the superexchange and double exchange interactions.

Electrical Properties and Local Dom.in Structure of LiNbO_3 Thin Film.Grown by Ion Beam.Sputtering m.thod

The nanocrystalline ferroelectric LiNbO3 film. on（001） Si substrates with the random.orientation of polycrystalline grains and the predom.nance of the grains with lateral orientation of the polar axis were grown using the ion beam.sputtering m.thod. The rem.nent polarization and the coercive field are 12 μC/cm.and 29 kv/cm. respectively. The therm.l annealing leads to the coarsening of the grains. The appearance of the ＂local texture,＂ which gives rise to the unipolarity of the heterostructures caused by the predom.nance of the one direction in the vertical com.onent of the spontaneous polarization, is investigated.

The results of experim.nts on m.asuring the energy spectra of alpha particles in reactions with heavy ions are *** m.asurem.nts were perform.d using the high-resolution m.gnetic analyzer m.vR with beam. of ^(48)Ca(280 m.v)and ^(56)Fe(320 and 400 m.v)on ^(181)Ta and ^(238)U targets at an angle of 0°.A strong dependence of the double differential cross sections for production of alpha particles on the atom.c num.er of the target nucleus was observed,which indicates that fast alpha particles are m.inly em.tted from.the target nucleus;this conclusion was also confirm.d by calculations within the tim.-dependent Schrödinger equation *** analysis of the obtained experim.ntal data was carried out within the m.del of m.ving sources m.dified to consider the kinem.tic lim.ts for two-body and three-body exit channels.

Solid solution strengthening in m.lticom.onent fcc and bcc alloys:Analytical approach

Based on virtual solvent concept, novel m.thods are developed to determ.ne interatom.c distance, atom.c size m.sfit, and elastic m.dulus m.sfit in m.lticom.onent alloys with com.onents having the crystal structure differing from.that of the alloy. The com.ination of the different m.thods results in a num.er of m.dels to calculate solid solution strengthening. These m.dels are assessed with view point of the best fit to experim.ntal data. The m.dels giving the m.st reliable strengthening prediction can be used for an evolutionary design of strong and stable m.lticom.onent alloys.

Objective:To evaluate the anti-ulcer activity and acute toxicity ofFicus religiosa(F. religiosa)leaf ethanolic extract in anim.l ***:Anti-ulcer activity ofF. religiosaethanolicextract(250 and 500 m./kg body weight) was studied on stress induced ulcer anim.l *** was used as standard. The anti-ulcer activity ofF. religiosawas evaluated with thehelp of ulcer area and histopatholgical exam.nation. Prelim.nary phyto-chem.cal screeningand acute toxicity studies ofF. religiosaalso carried ***:Results showed that theextract treatm.nts prevented ulcer area and gastric secretion in a dose-dependent *** of 2000 m./kg extract did not show any acute toxicity in albino m.ce. Prelim.naryphytochem.cal analysis identified the presence of flavonoids in the ethanolic extract ofF. ***:The extract is non-toxic even at relatively high concentrations. The anti-ulceractivity is probably due to the presence of flavanoids.

The electroplating of Zn–Ni–P thin film.alloys from.a sulfate bath containing phosphoric and phosphorous acid was investigated. The bath com.osition and the deposition param.ters were optim.zed through Hull cell experim.nts, and the optim.m.experim.ntal conditions were determ.ned（p H = 2, tem.erature = 298–313 K, zinc sulfate concentration =30 g·L^-1, EDTA concentration = 15 g·L^-1, and current density = 1.0–2.0 A·dm.-2）. The SEm.analysis of the coating deposited from.the optim.m.bath revealed fine-grained deposits of the alloy in the presence of EDTA. Optical m.croscopy analysis indicated an electrodeposited thin film.with uniform.thickness and good adhesion to the steel substrate. The good adherence of the coatings was also dem.nstrated by the scratch tests that were perform.d, with a m.xim.m.determ.ned value of 25 N for the critical load. Corrosion resistance tests revealed good protection of the steel substrate by the obtained Zn–Ni–P coatings, with values up to 85.89% for sam.les with Ni contents higher than 76%. The surface analysis of the thin film.sam.les before and after corrosion was perform.d by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy（XPS）.
