Being a facet of flexible electronics,mechanically reshapeable magnetic field sensorics enable novel device ideas for soft robotics,interactive devices for virtual-and augmented reality and point of care *** applications demand mechanically compliant yet robust sensor devices revealing high sensitivity to small magnetic *** push the detection limit of highly compliant and linear magnetic field sensors to be in the sub-µT range,we explore a new fundamental concept for magnetic field sensing,namely the planar Hall effect in magnetic thin *** their remarkable bendability down to 1 mm,these compliant planar Hall effect sensors allow for an efficient detection of magnetic fields as small as 200 nT with a limit of detection of 20 *** demonstrate the application potential of these devices as a direction(angle)as well as proximity(distance)sensors of tiny magnetic fields emanating from magnetically functionalized *** their intrinsic linearity and simplicity of fabrication,these compliant planar Hall effect sensors have the potential to become a standard solution for low field applications of shapeable magnetoelectronics in point of care applications and on-skin interactive electronics.

soil-vegetation relationships in Mediterranean forests after fire

Background:Wildfires are one of the major environmental concerns in Mediterranean ***,many studies have addressed wildfire impacts on soil and vegetation in Mediterranean forests,but the linkages between these ecosystem compartments after fire are not well *** aim of this work is to analyze soil-vegetation relationships in Mediterranean burned forests as well as the consistency of these relationships among forests with different environmental conditions,at different times after fire,and among vegetation with different functional ***:Our results indicate that study site conditions play an important role in mediating soil-vegetation ***,we found that the nature of soil-vegetation relationships may vary over time as fire effects are less dominant in both ecosystem *** this,we detected several common soil-vegetation relationships among study sites and times after *** instance,our results revealed that available P content and stoichiometry(C:P and N:P)were closely linked to vegetation growth,and particularly to the growth of *** found that enzymatic activities and microbial biomass were inversely related to vegetation growth rates,whereas the specific activities of soil enzymes were higher in the areas with more vegetation height and ***,our results suggest that resprouters may influence soil properties more than seeders,the growth of seeders being more dependent on soil ***:We provide pioneer insights into how vegetation is influenced by soil,and vice-versa,in Mediterranean burned *** results reflect variability in soil-vegetation relationships among study sites and time after fire,but consistent patterns between soil properties and vegetation were also *** research is highly relevant to advance in forest science and could be useful to achieve efficient post-fire management.

Objective:To identify the prevalence of soil-transmitted helminthiasis(sTH)among school-age children in the Cagayan valley,the Philippines,assess their level of awareness on the disease,and determine predisposing factors of the ***:A total of 478 GradesⅢ-Ⅴschool-age children in Pamplona and sanchez-Mira school Districts in the Cagayan valley answered the questionnaire assessing their knowledge,attitude,and practices on sTH,subjected to anthropometric measurements,and provided faecal samples for parasitologic assessment(direct smear,Kato-Katz,and formol-ether concentration techniques).Results:The participants of the study,with 55.86%females,were 8 to 14 years *** nutritional status was assessed‘normal’(84.31%),‘severely wasted’(6.49%),‘wasted’(5.23%),‘overweight’(2.72%),and‘obese’(1.26%).The prevalence of infection with at least 1 sTH species was 25.99%in Pamplona and 19.40%in ***,the prevalence of heavy intensity was 7.11%for Ascaris lumbricoides and 1.67%for Trichuris *** hookworm infections had light *** majority of the school-age children had a low score in the KAP *** knowledge of sTH,‘stunted growth as a symptom of infection’was associated with a lower risk of Ascaris lumbricoides infection(OR 0.448;95%CI 0.212,0.945;P=0.035)while‘playing with soil as a mode of transmission’was associated with an increased risk of Ascaris lumbricoides infection(OR 2.067;95%CI 1.014,4.212;P=0.046).In attitude towards sTH,‘I think I have intestinal worm now’was associated with a higher risk of Ascaris lumbricoides infection(OR 1.681;95%CI 1.061,2.662;P=0.027).Conclusions:The prevalence rate of Ascaris lumbricoides among the school-age children in the Cagayan valley shows the need to further intensify intervention in the area to meet the threshold set by the World Health *** identified predictors of infection,which concerns the school-age children’s knowledge and attitude toward sTH,can be used in augmenting

GsC 4560–02157: a new long-period eclipsing cataclysmic variable star

We study the newly discovered variable star GsC 4560-02157. CCD photometry was performed in 2013-2014 at the Tien shan Astronomical Observatory,and a spectrum was obtained with the 6-m telescope of the special Astrophysical Observatory in June, 2014. GsC 4560-02157 is demonstrated to be an eclipsing variable star（P = 0.265359d）. All its flat-bottom primary minima are approximately at the same brightness level, but the star＇s out-of-eclipse brightness and brightness at secondary minima vary considerably（by up to 0.6m） from cycle to cycle. Moreover,there are short-term（time scale of 0.03-0.04 days） small-amplitude brightness variations out of eclipse. This behavior suggests a cataclysmic nature for the star, which is confirmed with a spectrum taken on 2014 June 5. The spectrum shows numerous emissions of the hydrogen Balmer series, He Ⅰ and He Ⅱ.

This paper studies the dielectric spectra of solid solutions(ss)of the system(1−x−y)NaNbO_(3)-xKNbO_(3)-yCdNb_(2)O_(6) y=0.075,x=0.05÷0.30 in the temperature range(10÷900)*** formation of a local maximum was established in the interval(260÷300)K at small x values,which,as KNbO3 increases,is gradually blurred and becomes an inflection *** in ss with x=0.05÷0.10,the shift of the maxima of dependencesε′/ε_(0)(T)andε″/ε_(0)(T),depending on the frequency of the electric field at the temperature ranges(300÷304)K and(258÷271)K,is not related to *** anomaly may indicate a crystallographic disorder to A and B *** conclusion is made about the expediency of using the obtained results for the development of functional ferroactive materials.

Bioassay Procedure for the Diagnosis of Aflatoxicosis in a Pig Farm in Nsukka, south East Nigeria

The owner of an intensively reared pig farm in Nsukka, south-East Nigeria reported the deaths (within one week) of 90 piglets (2-3 months of age) out of 150 piglets on the farm. The piglets were being fed home-compounded ration composed of spent grain (which appeared moldy) and other locally sourced materials. Clinical signs observed in affected piglets include sudden loss of appetite, diarrhea and distress grunting sound prior to death. symptomatic treatment of the piglets which included the use of antibiotics (tetracycline, LA) did not appear to have ameliorated the condition. At necropsy carcasses were generally in fair to good body condition;with subcutaneous hemorrhages, mainly under the skin of head and neck regions. Lungs were congested and edematous, with froth along the tracheal and bronchial airways. The liver and spleen were moderately congested, while the mucosae of the gastrointestinal tract (which was free of ingesta) appeared mildly hyperaemic. No pathogenic bacterium was isolated from the heart blood and spleen. Histologic section of the liver showed centrilobular hepatocytes vacoulation and necrosis with hypertrophy of Kupffer cells that were in erythrophagocytosis. There was moderate fibrinous exudation into the interlobular septae. spleen section showed severe erythrophagocytosis, but mild haemosiderosis. White pulp was either reactive or depopulated. Lungs were severely haemorrhagic with bronchitis and bronchiolitis. A tentative diagnosis of mycotoxicosis was made and the spent grain-compounded ration was fed to different groups of ducklings, with/without arginine and lysine supplementation. On the bases of clinical signs and mortality pattern;gross and histologic changes in the liver of the ducklings, a definitive diagnosis of aflatoxicosis was made. This paper emphasizes the experimental feeding of suspected feeds/feed ingredient to ducklings as a reliable diagnostic model for aflatoxicosis.

PURPOsE. To investigate the retinal disease expression in UsH2C, the subtype of Usher syndrome type 2 recently shown to be caused by mutation in the vLGR1 gene, and compare results with those from UsH2A, a more common cause of Usher syndrome. METHODs. Three siblings with UsH2C and 14 patients with UsH2A were studied. visual function was measured by kinetic perimetry, static chromatic perimetry, and electroretinography (ERG). Central retinal microstructure was studied with optical coherence tomography (OCT). REsULTs. The siblings with vLGR1 mutation showed abnormal photoreceptor- mediated function in all retinal regions, and there was greater rod than cone dysfunction. UsH2A had a wider spectrum of disease expression and included patients with normal function in some retinal regions. When abnormalities were detected, there was more rod than cone dysfunction. Retinal microstructure in both UsH2C and UsH2A shared the abnormality of loss of outer nuclear layer thickness. Central retinal structure in both genotypes was complicated by cystic macular lesions. A coincidental finding in an UsH2C patient was that oral intake of antihistamines was associated with temporary resolution of the macular cystic change. CONCLUsIONs. UsH2C and UsH2A manifest photoreceptor disease with rod- and cone- mediated visual losses and thinning of the outer nuclear layer. An orderly progression through disease stages was estimated from cross- sectional and limited longitudinal data. Intrafamilial and interfamilial variation in retinal severity in UsH2A, however, suggests that genetic or nongenetic modifiers may be involved in the disease expression.

Effect of Eugenia winzerlingii Extracts on Bemisia tabaci and Evaluation of Its Nursery Propagation

The development of plant-derived products to control Bemisia tabaci Genn.(Hemiptera:Aleyrodidae)is an urgent need for production of horticultural *** extracts and essential oils of several species of the genus Eugenia(Myrtaceae)have shown insecticidal *** southern Mexico,leaf extracts from Eugenia winzerlingii showed nematicidal effect but its insecticidal properties have not been ***,the objective of this study was to evaluate the insecticidal effect of aqueous and organic extracts from *** leaves on *** egg,nymph and adult stages,and else to explore its nursery ***,extracts of this species were obtained by maceration with different polarity *** were carried out on Capsicum chinense *** assays showed that aqueous and total crude ethanol(TCE)extracts necrosed the eggs(LC50=0.21%w/v and 4.68 mg/mL,respectively),whereas hexane,ethyl acetate(ETA),residual ethanol and TCE extracts affected the nymphs(LC50=0.25-4.85 mg/mL).In adults,oviposition inhibition by free choice assay indicated that TCE and ETA extracts had major activity(EC50=14.62 and 27.86μg/cm2,respectively).On other hand,the sexual and vegetative propagation of *** showed that this species can be easily cultivated by *** conclusion,extracts of *** leaves are highly effective in controlling *** extract,in particular,was toxic to three stages of *** plant could be a potential alternative to develop a novel botanical insecticide to manage this destructive pest.
