In Brazil and various regions globally, the initiation of landslides is frequently associated with rainfall;yet the spatial arrangement of geological structures and stratification considerably influences landslide occurrences. The multifaceted nature of these influences makes the surveillance of mass movements a highly intricate task, requiring an understanding of numerous interdependent variables. Recent years have seen an emergence in scholarly research aimed at integrating geophysical and geotechnical methodologies. The conjoint examination of geophysical and geotechnical data offers an enhanced perspective into subsurface structures. Within this work, a methodology is proposed for the synchronous analysis of electrical resistivity geophysical data and geotechnical data, specifically those extracted from the Light Dynamic Penetrometer (DPL) and Standard Penetration Test (SPT). This study involved a linear fitting process to correlate resistivity with N10/SPT N-values from DPL/SPT soundings, culminating in a 2D profile of N10/SPT N-values predicated on electrical profiles. The findings of this research furnish invaluable insights into slope stability by allowing for a two-dimensional representation of penetration resistance properties. Through the synthesis of geophysical and geotechnical data, this project aims to augment the comprehension of subsurface conditions, with potential implications for refining landslide risk evaluations. This endeavor offers insight into the formulation of more effective and precise slope management protocols and disaster prevention strategies.

目的:探讨口服滋阴凉血散瘀汤联合激光治疗糖尿病性视网膜病变的临床疗效。方法:采用口服滋阴凉血散瘀汤联合视网膜光凝治疗糖尿病性视网膜病变患者,以单纯视网膜光凝为对照组,对比两组患者在治疗后1,6,12mo的视力、视野及新生血管的变化情况。结果:口服滋阴凉血散瘀汤联合光凝治疗组患者12mo时视力提高(62.3%vs43.1%,P=0.037),视野改变(17.0±3.7vs14.9±3.7,P=0.002)及新生血管退缩情况(67.2%vs48.3%,P=0.036)均优于对照组患者。结论:滋阴凉血散瘀汤联合激光治疗糖尿病性视网膜病变较单纯激光治疗更有效。

An innovative inversion code, named “Curupira v1.0”, has been developed using Matlab to determine the vertical distribution of resistivity beneath the subsoil. The program integrates Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES), successful in shallow subsurface exploration and Time Domain Electromagnetic (TEM) techniques, better suited for deeper exploration, both of which are widely employed in geophysical exploration. These methodologies involve calculating subsurface resistivity through appropriate inversion processes. To address the ill-posed nature of inverse problems in geophysics, a joint inversion scheme combining VES and TEM data has been incorporated into Curupira v1.0. The software has been tested on both synthetic and real-world data, the latter of which was acquired from the Parana sedimentary basin which we summarise here. The results indicate that the joint inversion of VES and TEM techniques offers improved recovery of simulated models and demonstrates significant potential for hydrogeological studies.

An Analysis of the Potential Benefits of Metformin on Disease Recurrence in Oral and Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Objective: Diabetes mellitus type 2 has been associated with increased cancer risk and cancer related mortality. Metformin, one of the most widely used anti-diabetic medications, has been found to have important anticancer properties in addition to hypoglycemic effects. The effects of metformin on clinical outcomes in oral cavity (OC) and oropharyngeal (OP) squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) have not been thoroughly analyzed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of metformin use on cancer recurrence in diabetic patients with oral cavity and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Design: Retrospective review. Setting: Academic tertiary medical center. Patients: Seventy-seven patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 and oral cavity or oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma were treated and followed at our tertiary academic institution and the Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System from 1998 to 2012. Main Outcome Measure: Cox proportional hazards models and Kaplan-Meier curves were constructed to determine if metformin has an effect on disease recurrence after primary cancer treatment. Results: Metformin does not appear to have a significant effect on disease recurrence in patients with OC/OP SCC and diabetes mellitus type 2 (p = 0.53). Even when including only patients with stage I or II disease, metformin still did not decrease recurrence (p = 0.60). Conclusion: Herein, our data suggest that metformin use does not significantly impact time until recurrence for diabetic patients with OC/OP SCC.

Light scattering by a two-dimensional photonic-crystal slab(PCS)can result in marked interference effects associated with Fano *** devices offer appealing alternatives to distributed Bragg reflectors and filters for various applications,such as optical wavelength and polarization filters,reflectors,semiconductor lasers,photodetectors,bio-sensors and non-linear optical *** PCS also have natural applications in the field of optomechanics,where the mechanical modes of a suspended slab interact via radiation pressure with the optical field of a high-finesse *** reflectivity and transmission properties of a defect-free suspended PCS around normal incidence can be used to couple out-of-plane mechanical modes to an optical field by integrating it in a free-space *** we demonstrate the successful implementation of a PCS reflector on a high-tensile stress Si_(3)N_(4) *** illustrate the physical process underlying the high reflectivity by measuring the photonic-crystal band ***,we introduce a clear theoretical description of the membrane scattering properties in the presence of optical *** embedding the PCS inside a high-finesse cavity,we fully characterize its optical *** spectrally,angular-and polarization-resolved measurements demonstrate the wide tunability of the membrane’s reflectivity,from nearly 0 to 99.9470±0.0025%,and show that material absorption is not the main source of optical ***,the cavity storage time demonstrated in this work exceeds the mechanical period of low-order mechanical drum *** so-called resolved-sideband condition is a prerequisite to achieve quantum control of the mechanical resonator with light.
