Reduced striatal volumes in Parkinson’s disease:a magnetic resonance imaging study

Mass-balance ecosystem model of the East China Sea

Using the Ecopath mass-balance trophodynamic model,this paper analyzed the trophic levels,flows,food web structure and ecosystem maturity of the East China Sea,and identified ecologically important functional groups in the *** model is based on fishery resource surveys of the East China Sea in 2000,studies on diet composition and global databases such as FishBase and the Sea Around Us Project *** results showed that trophic levels of the functional groups are between 2.86 and 4.37,with an average of ***(Engraulis japonicus),small fishes and benthic crustaceans such as shrimps and crabs are important groups in terms of the trophic structure and flow dynamics in the East China *** flows of most groups are between specific trophic levels,except file fish(Thamnaconus spp.),pomfret(Pampus spp.) and *** transfer efficiency of levels Ⅱ,Ⅲ,IV and more than V are 11.8%,21.1%,17.4% and 22.1-22.5%,*** of fishery-the largest ‘consumer’ of the ecosystemare much stronger than those exerted by biological groups in the *** model suggests that the current fishery can further reduce the complexity of the *** of the system indices suggest that maturity of the ecosystem is *** conclusion of this model indicates that it was the overfishing that caused the ecosystem of the East China Sea declined,which should be taken into account as a critical reference for fisheries management in the future.

Modulating effect of adenosine deaminase on function of adenosine A1 receptors

End Organ Recovery and Survival with the QuadroxD Oxygenator in Adults on Extracorporeal Membran Oxygenation

Introduction: Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) is used in selected patient with cardiogenic and/or re- spiratory shock. We report our experience with standardized management protocols and the application of the Qua- droxD oxygenator with a centrifugal pump to maximize end-organ recovery and improve survival. Methods: This is an Internal Review Board (IRB) approved, single institution retrospective study of end-organ recovery and survival in pa- tients who required ECMO for cardiogenic and/or respiratory shock between July 2010 and June 2011. Results: Sixteen patients (median age: 46 years) were initiated on either Veno-Arterial (VA) or Veno-Venous (VV) ECMO. Cardiogenic shock, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and a combined respiratory and cardiogenic compromise were the primary indications for ECMO in 8 (50%), 5 (31%) and 3 (19%) patients respectively. The median time on ECMO was 8 days (range: 4 - 26 days). Twelve patients (75%) were successfully weaned off ECMO, of which four (25%) were bridged to a ventricular assist device (VAD) and eight (50%) were weaned to recovery. All eight patients (100%) that were weaned to recovery and two patients (50%) that were bridged to a VAD were successfully discharged from the hospital, resulting in a discharge rate of 63%. There was an improvement in pre- vs. post-ECMO AST (449 IU/l vs. 63 IU/l, p Conclusion: ECMO using the QuadroxD oxygenator and a centrifugal pump, coupled with standardized management protocols is beneficial in carefully selected patients. Improvement or main- tenance of end-organ function is associated with successful bridge to device therapy and/or increased survival.

Additive manufacturing based on liquid resin curing is one of the most promising methods to construct delicate ***,precision and speed are limited by the vertical adhesion of in situ cured resin at the curing *** overcome the unavoidable adhesion and to develop a general curing interface,we propose a slippery surface taking inspiration of the peristome surface of the pitcher *** surface shows ultra-low adhesive energy at the curing interface due to the inhibition of the direct contact between the cured resin and the solid surface,which also increases the reflling speed of liquid *** ultra-low adhesive energy interface is efective for continuous 3D printing and provides insights into the physical mechanisms in reducing vertical solid-solid interfacial adhesion.
