Microfluidic analytical system was developed based on annular flow of phase separation multiphase flow with a ternary water-hydrophilic/hydrophobic organic solvent solution. The analytical system was combined with on-line luminol chemiluminescence detection for catechin analysis. The water (10 mM phosphate buffer, pH 7.3)-acetonitrile-ethyl acetate mixed solution (3:8:4, volume ratio) containing 60 μM luminol and 2 mM hydrogen peroxide as a carrier was fed into the capillary tube (open-tubular fused-silica, 75 μm inner diameter, 110 cm effective length) at a flow rate of 1.0 μL·min-1. The carrier solution showed stable chemiluminescence as a baseline on the flow chart. Eight catechins were detected as negative peaks for their antioxidant potential with different detection times. The system was applied to analyze the amounts of catechin in commercially available green tea beverages.

The Study of Demagnetization of the Magnetic Orientation of Permanent Magnets for IPMSM with Field-Weakening Control under Hot Temperature

In this study, we investigate the demagnetization resistance of a concentrated winding IPMSM （interior permanent magnet synchronous motor） accounting for field weakening control by changing the magnetization direction of the permanent magnet under a high-temperature environment. IPMSMs are investigated by FEA （finite element analysis） using the same volume of the permanent magnet while changing the magnet’s width, thickness and magnetic field orientation angle. FEA found that a V-shaped angle Va = 100° and a changed magnet length of 97% using an oblique magnetic-field-oriented magnet strike a good balance between demagnetization resistance and torque at 180 ℃. Comparison between demagnetization of negative d-axis current （current phase β = 90°） and demagnetization of field weakening control （β = 80°） using concentrated winding IPMSM with V-shaped angle Va = 100° is conducted. With the demagnetization factor at β = 80° for β = 90°, the demagnetization factor 0.39 （2.6 times） at α = 0° decreases to 0.23 （4.3 times） at α = 20°. The demagnetization resistance in the field weakening control is further improved.

In this paper,simulations of real rockfall by discontinuous deformation analysis (DDA) are *** the simulations,the energy losses of rockfall are categorized into three types,*** loss by friction,the loss by collision,and the loss by *** of the energy loss using absolute parameters is conducted by the DDA ***,in order to verify the applicability and validity of the proposed DDA,field tests on rockfall and corresponding simulations of rockfall tests by DDA are *** simulated results of rockfall velocity and rockfall jumping height agree well with those obtained from the field ***,the new technique properly considers the energy-absorption ability of slope based on vegetation condition and shape of the rockfall,and provides a new method for the assessment and preventive design of rockfall.

Previously, we reported the efficacy of a newly developed inverted overtube in shortening the hemostatic time and obtaining a clear endoscopic view in emergency endoscopic hemostasis. This device also helped us to perform gastric endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) more safely by changing the direction of gravity in the right lateral position. To perform a safe ESD, it is important to make an appropriate angle and distance between the electric knife and the gastric mucosa. In this position, the distance to gastric mucosa is reduced, and the angle of the electric knife changes from vertical to somewhat oblique, facilitating safer cutting.

Hispanic Americans of Caribbean origin are a fast-growing subset of the US population, but there are no studies on bone density, microstructure and biomechanical integrity in this minority group. In this study, we aimed to compare Caucasian and Caribbean Hispanic postmenopausal American women with respect to these characteristics. Thirty-three Caribbean Hispanics were age-matched to thirty-three Caucasian postmenopausal women. At the lumbar spine, the Hispanic women had significantly lower areal bone mineral density （aBMD）. At the radius by high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography （HR-pQCT）, there were minimal differences between Hispanic and Caucasian women. At the tibia, Hispanic women had lower trabecular volumetric bone density and trabecular number, and higher trabecular separation. Individual trabecula segmentation （ITS） analyses indicated that at the tibia, Hispanic women not only had significantly lower bone volume fraction, but also had significantly lower rod bone volume fraction, plate trabecular number, rod trabecular number and lower plate-plate, plate-rod and rod-rod junction densities compared to Caucasian women. The differences in bone quantity and quality contributed to lower whole bone stiffness at the radius, and both whole bone and trabecular bone stiffness at the tibia in Hispanic women. In conclusion, Hispanic women had poorer bone mechanical and microarchitectural properties than Caucasian women, especially at the load-bearing distal tibia.

Genetic polymorphisms in glutathione S-transferase T1 affect the surgical outcome of varicocelectomies in infertile patients

Glutathione S-transferases （GSTs）, superoxide dismutase 2 （SOD2） and NAD（P）H：quinone oxidoreductase 1 （NQO1） are anti-oxidant enzyme genes. Polymorphisms of GSTs, SOD2 and NQO1 have been reported to influence individual susceptibility to various diseases. In an earlier study, we obtained preliminary findings that a subset of glutathione S-transferase 7：1 （GSTT1）-wt patients with varicocele may exhibit good response to varicocelectomy. In this study, we extended the earlier study to determine the distribution of genotype of each gene in the infertile population and to evaluate whether polymorphism of these genes affects the results of surgical treatment of varicocele. We analyzed 72 infertile varicocele patients, 202 infertile patients without varicocele and 101 male controls. Genotypes of GSTs were determined by polymerase chain reaction （PCR）. Genotyping of SOD2 and NQO1 was performed using the PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism （PCR-RFLP） method. A significantly better response to varicocelectomy was found in patients with the GSTTI-wt genotype （63.2%） and NQO1-Ser/Ser genotype （80.0%） than in those with GSTTI-null genotype （35.3%） and NQO1-Pro/Pro or NQO1- Pro/Ser genotype （45.2%）, respectively. The frequencies of glutathione S-transferase M1/T1, SOD2 and NQO1 genotypes did not differ significantly among the varicocele patients, idiopathic infertile patients and male controls. GSTT1 genotype is associated with improvement of semen parameters after varicocelectomy. As the number of patients with NQO1-Ser/Ser genotype was not sufficient to reach definite conclusions, the association of NQO1 genotype with varicocelectomy requires further investigation.
