Predicting short-term adverse outcomes in the geriatric population presenting with syncope:a comparison of existing syncope rules and beyond

The human visual system is still an important factor in military warfare;military personnel receive training on effective search strategies,and camouflage that can effectively conceal objects and personnel is a key component of a successful integrated survivability *** methods of camouflage assessment have,amongst others,used psychophysics to generate distinctiveness ***,the population from which the human observers are drawn is often not well defined,or necessarily *** this experiment we designed a new platform for testing multiple patterns based on a camouflaged object detection task,and investigate whether trained military observers perform better than *** use a two-alternative forced choice paradigm,with participants searching images of woodland for a replica military helmet displaying Olive Green,Multi Terrain Pattern,US Marine Pattern or,as a conspicuous control,UN Peacekeeper *** data show that there is no difference in detection performance between the two observer groups but that there are clear differences in the effectiveness of the different helmet colour patterns in a temperate woodland *** conclude that when tasks involve very short stimulus presentation times,task-specific training has little effect on the success of target detection and thus this paradigm is particularly suitable for robust estimates of camouflage efficacy.

Seasonal Variations of ch_4 Emissions in the Yangtze River Delta Region of china Are Driven by Agricultural Activities

Developed regions of the world represent a major atmospheric methane(ch_4) source,but these regional emissions remain poorly *** Yangtze River Delta(YRD) region of china is densely populated(about 16% of china's total population) and consists of large anthropogenic and natural ch_4 ***,atmospheric ch_4 concentrations measured at a 70-m tall tower in the YRD are combined with a scale factor Bayesian inverse(SFBI) modeling approach to constrain seasonal variations in ch_4 *** indicate that in 2018 agricultural soils(AGS,rice production) were the main driver of seasonal variability in atmospheric ch_4 *** was an underestimation of emissions from AGS in the a priori inventories(EDGAR—Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research v432 or v50),especially during the growing *** ch_4 emissions from AGS accounted for 39%(4.58 Tg,EDGAR v432) to 47%(5.21 Tg,EDGAR v50) of the total ch_4 *** posteriori natural emissions(including wetlands and water bodies) were1.21 Tg and 1.06 Tg,accounting for 10.1%(EDGAR v432) and 9.5%(EDGAR v50) of total emissions in the YRD *** show that the dominant factor for seasonal variations in atmospheric concentration in the YRD was AGS,followed by natural *** summer,AGS contributed 42%(EDGAR v432) to 64%(EDGAR v50) of the ch_4 concentration enhancement while natural sources only contributed about 10%(EDGAR v50) to 15%(EDGAR v432).In addition,the newer version of the EDGAR product(EDGAR v50) provided more reasonable seasonal distribution of ch_4 emissions from rice cultivation than the old version(EDGAR v432).

Integrated soil, water and agronomic management effects on crop productivity and selected soil properties in Western Ethiopia

Land degradation is a major challenge limiting crop production in Ethiopia. Integrated soil and water conservation is widely applied as a means to reverse the trend and increase productivity. This study investigated the effects of such integrated approaches at two sites, Jeldu and Diga, inWestern Ethiopia. A split plot design with physical soil and water conservation in the main plots and agronomic practices in the sub plots was employed. Maize (Zea mays L.) followed by groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) at Diga, and wheat (Triticum aestivum) followed by faba bean (Vicia faba L.) were the test crops. Surface soils were sampled before sowing and after the crop harvest, and analyzed for selected parameters. Soil moisture content during the growing period was also monitored. The use of soil bund increased soil moisture content, and significantly (P creased days to flowering and maturity, kernel weight and harvest index, grain yield of the test crops, with the exception of maize. The improved agronomic practices (intercropping, fertilization and row planting) significantly (P creased grain yield of all the test crops. The effect of the treatments on soil parameters may require longer time to be evident. Although the increase in crop yield due to soil bund and the improved agronomic practices is eminent, economic analysis is necessary before recommending the widespread use of the improved options.

Driver mutations of cancer epigenomes

Epigenetic alterations are associated with all aspects of cancer, from tumor initiation to cancer progression and metastasis. It is now well understood that both losses and gains of DNA methylation as well as altered chro- matin organization contribute significantly to cancer- associated phenotypes. More recently, new sequencing technologies have allowed the identification of driver mutations in epigenetic regulators, providing a mecha- nistic link between the cancer epigenome and genetic alterations. Oncogenic activating mutations are now known to occur in a number of epigenetic modifiers （i.e. IDhll2, EZh2, DNMT3A）, pinpointing epigenetic path- ways that are involved in tumorigenesis. Similarly, investigations into the role of inactivating mutations in chromatin modifiers （i.e. KDM6A, cREBBPIEP300, SMARcB1） implicate many of these genes as tumor suppressors. Intriguingly, a number of neoplasms are defined by a plethora of mutations in epigenetic regu- lators, including renal, bladder, and adenoid cystic car- cinomas. Particularly striking is the discovery of frequent histone h3.3 mutations in pediatric glioma, a particularly aggressive neoplasm that has long remained poorly understood. cancer epigenetics is a relatively new, promising frontier with much potential for improving cancer outcomes. Already, therapies such as 5-azacytidine and decitabine have proven that targeting epigenetic alterations in cancer can lead to tangible benefits. Understanding how genetic alterations give rise to the cancer epigenome will offer new possibilities for developing better prognostic and therapeutic strategies.

Leaching of Lead, chromium and copper into Drinks Placed in Plastic cups at Different conditions

Plastic cups commonly used by communities of Uganda lose color with time as they are used. The purpose of this study was to determine the concentrations of copper, lead and chromium in drinks placed in blue and green plastic cups from two companies (anonymized as A and B) in Uganda. New blue and green polyethylene plastic cups produced from unrecycled material were purchased from company A and company B while control cups of Luminarc white (Saudi Arabia) and porcelain white glazed (china) were purchased from shops in Mbarara city. The ash from the burnt blue and green plastic cups was digested using Aqua Regia. After a holding time of 30 and 60 minutes, milk and tea samples in the four different cups were also digested using Aqua Regia. Sample analysis for the supernatants was done in triplicates using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The ash of blue and green cups from company A was found to contain the highest concentration of heavy metals which ranged from 0.73 to 1.86 ppm for lead, 8.05 to 38.32 ppm of copper, and 655.80 to 756.57 ppm for chromium. For company B, the heavy metal concentrations ranged from 0.76 to 1.43 ppm, 5.51 to 22.85 ppm, and 756.67 to 815.25 ppm, respectively. The concentration of the leached metals ranged from 0.001 to 5.75 ppm for copper, 0.001 to 0.60 ppm for chromium, and 0.001 to 0.41 ppm for lead for the cup of company A. For the cup from company B, the concentration ranges for the leached metals were from 0.001 to 3.59 ppm, 0.001 to 1.08 ppm, and 0.001 to 0.29 ppm, respectively. Most of the values obtained for the leached concentrations of the metals studied were above the respective drinking water in WhO and USEPA permissible limits of 1 ppm (copper), 0.05 ppm (lead) and 0.1 ppm (chromium). The blue and green plastic cups from both companies had leached concentrations of copper, lead and chromium below the permissible limits at 25°c, ph 6.2 (milk) and a holding time of 30 minutes. The phylogeography of the Kaloula genus in East Asia is still poorly *** of the difficulties is the absence of fossils to corroborate molecular dating ***,we examined the mitochondrial structure of Kaloula *** East Asia and focused on the impact of glaciations on the northernmost species:Kaloula *** determined the phylogenetic relationships,molecular dating,and genetic connectivity assessments within the genus from 1211 bp of concatenated mitochondrial 12S and *** relaxed clock analyses reveal the emergence of Kaloula *** ancestor in East and Southeast Asia between the Eocene and Oligocene,c.38.47 Ma(24.69–53.65).The genetic diversification of lineages then increased on the East Asian Mainland during the Lower Miocene,c.20.10(8.73–30.65),most likely originating from the vicariance and radiation triggered by the orogeny of the Qinghai–Tibetan ***,the dispersal towards the North East Asian Mainland during the Upper Miocene drove the population diversification of *** c.9.01 Ma(3.66–15.29).Finally,the central mainland population became isolated following orogenesis events and diverged into *** during the Pliocene,c.3.06 Ma(0.02–10.90).The combination of population genetic and barrier analyses revealed a significant genetic isolation between populations of Kaloula *** with the massive Qinling–Daba Mountain chain located in south-central ***,we highlight a young divergence within the Eastern Mainland population of ***,possibly attributed to refugia in south eastern china from which populations later expanded.

TIMP-1 Production in human Retinal Pigment Epithelial cells after Laser Exposure

Purpose: To investigate changes in the production of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase type 1 (TIMP-1) by human retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells following argon laser ***: human cultured ARPE19 cells were exposed to argon green laser at four different energy levels ranging from 60mW to 360mW. After laser exposure, the culture media were sampled at 0, 24, 72 and 144 hours for TIMP-1 concentration produced by the RPE cells. The levels of TIMP-1 in the cells treated with different laser energy levels were compared with a control group not exposed to laser *** for proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PcNA) was performed to detect any adverse effects on the RPE cells caused by laser ***: Immediately after laser exposure, the concentration of TIMP- 1 was not detectable. At 24 hours after laser exposure, the concentration of TIMP-1 increased significantly in RPE cells treated with 120mW and 240mW at 24 hours (P=0.006 and P=0.001respectively) compared with control cells. At 72 hours after treatment, RPE cells treated at 120mW, 240mW and 360mW demonstrated significantly increase in TIMP-1production compared with control (P=0.003, P ＜ 0.001 and P ＜ 0.001, respectively).No significant reduction in cell viability was observed following laser application as detected by PcNA ***: Our results demonstrated that early TIMP-1 production by RPE cells in cell cultures was enhanced following laser exposure.
