This paper aims to create visible light driven ternary photocatalysts using zinc oxide(ZnO),cerium(IV)oxide(CeO_(2)),and carbon xerogel(CX) as constituent *** use of CeO_(2) is based on the creation of direct-Z-scheme heterojunctions with the ZnO and the consequent diminishing of charge recombination,whereas the carbon xerogel inclusion is predicted to minimize bandgap energy,decrease electro n-hole reco mbination,and boost specific surface *** re,the choice of the black-wattle tannin as a carbonaceous precursor was targeted at the development of an environmentally friendly and affordable *** existence of the hexagonal phase of zinc oxide and cubic structure of the cerium(IV) oxide in the ternary material was confirmed by X-ray diffractometry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,with the latter also suggesting chemical bonding between the ZnO and the CX due to the creation of zinc oxycarbide *** inclusion of the carbon xerogel provokes a significant modification in the morphology of the ternary material,resulting in an increased surface area and smaller particle *** CX/ZnO-CeO_(2) ternary composite obtains the highest photocatalytic efficiency among all the materials studied,degrading 100% of 4-chlorophenol under simulated sunlight and 68% under visible radiation,after 5 *** increased photocatalytic activity can be attributed to the formation of direct Z-scheme heterojunctions between the semiconductors,higher visible light response,and higher specific surface area,as evidenced by the results obtained by active radical scavenging,chronoamperometry,diffuse reflectance spectroscopy,and N_(2) adsorption-desorption isotherms.

Impacts of land use and land cover changes on hydrological processes and sediment yield determined using the sWAT model

Land use and land cover (LULC) changes strongly affect local hydrology and sediment *** current study focused on a basin in the Brazilian Amazon and had the following three objectives:(1) to perform an effective diagnosis of flow and sediment yield,(2) to evaluate the impacts of LULC changes over the last 40 years on the hydro-sedimentological variables,and (3) to investigate the impacts of the possible trends or breaking points in the flow,surface runoff,and sediment yield *** soil and Water Assessment Tool (sWAT) model validation showed that the simulated results were consistent with the data measured in the dynamic reproduction of flow ***,changes in LULC altered surface runoff,sediment yield,and flow according to the Mann-Kendall and Pettitt non-parametric *** was also observed that the sub-basins in which pastureland is predominant are more susceptible to increased surface runoff and sediment *** to trend and homogeneity tests,these sub-basins had break points in the time series of these *** the other hand,in the sub-basins whose land cover is predominantly forest,the time series is homogeneous and *** current study highlighted the impacts that 40 years of LULC changes in an Amazonian basin had on hydro-sedimentological variables,which,in turn,can play an important role in changing the hydrological cycle,consequently these changes can also impact diverse human activities in the region,such as agribusiness,livestock,energy production,food security,and public water ***,it is concluded that the sWAT model is a good estimator of hydro-sedimentological processes in Amazonian basins and can be used by decision makers in the management of water and environmental resources.

Denitrification-nitrification process in permeable coastal sediments: An investigation on the effect of salinity and nitrate availability using flow-through reactors

Permeable coastal sediments act as a reactive node in the littoral zone,transforming nutrients via a wide range of biogeochemical *** rates are controlled by abiotic factors,e.g.,salinity,temperature or solute ***,a series of incubation experiments,using flow-through reactors,were conducted to simulate the biogeochemical cycling of nitrate (NO3~?) and phosphorus (P) in permeable sediments under differentNO3~?availability conditions (factor I) along a salinity gradient (admixture of river and seawater,factor II).In an oligotrophic scenario,i.e.,unamendedNO3~?concentrations in both river and seawater,sediments acted as a permanent net source ofNO3~?to the water *** peak production rate occurred at an intermediate salinity(20).IncreasingNO3~?availability in river water significantly enhanced netNO3~?removal rates within the salinity range of 0 to 30,likely via the denitrification pathway based on the sediment microbiota *** this scenario,the most active removal was obtained at salinity of *** both river and seawater were spiked with NO3~?,the highest removal rate switched to the highest salinity (36).It suggests the salinity preference of theNO3~?removal pathway by local denitrifiers (e.g.,Bacillus and Paracoccus) and thatNO3~?removal in coastal sediments can be significantly constrained by the dilution relatedNO3~?*** with the obtained variation forNO3~?reactions,permeable sediments acted as a sink of soluble reactive P in all treatments,regardless of salinity andNO3~?input concentrations,indicating a possibility of P-deficiency for coastal water from the intensive cycling in permeable ***,the net production of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in all treatments was positively correlated with the measuredNO3~?reaction rates,indicating that the DOC supply may not be the key factor forNO3~?removal rates due to the consumption by intensive aerobic *** the intensive pr

AIM: To determine the presence of Helicobacter species DNA in the liver of chronic hepatitis C (CHC) patients with and without cirrhosis as compared to controls, and to identify the bacterial species involved. METHODs: seventy-nine consecutive patients (HBV and HIV negative) with a liver sample obtained after liver biopsy or hepatic resection were studied: 41 with CHC without cirrhosis, 12 with CHC and cirrhosis, and 26 controls (HCV negative). Polymerase chain reactions (PCRs) targeting Helicobacter 16s rDNA and species- specific were performed on DNA extracted from the liver. A gastric infection with H pylori was determined by serology and confirmed by 13C-urea breath test. resULTs: Overall, Helicobacter 16s rDNA was found in 16 patients (20.2%). Although positive cases tended to be higher in CHC patients with cirrhosis (41.6%) than in those without cirrhosis (17.0%) or in controls (15.4%), the difference was not statistically significant (P =0.08). H pylori-like DNA was identified in 12 cases and H. pullorum DNA in 2, while 2 cases remained unidenti- fied. Gastric infection with H pylori was found in only 2 of these patients. CONCLUsION: Our results do not confirm the associ- ation of Helicobacter species DNA in the liver of CHC patients with advanced liver disease. The lack of correlation between positive H pylori serology and the presence of H pylori-like DNA in the liver may indicate the presence of a variant of this species.

In the present experimental investigation,Al–3 wt%Cu and Al–3 wt%Cu–0.5 wt%Mg alloys castings are produced by a horizontal solidification technique with a view to examining the interrelationship among growth rate(GR),cooling rate(CR),secondary dendrite arm spacing(λ2),Vickers microhardness(HV),and corrosion behavior in a 0.5 M NaCl *** intermetallic phases of the as-solidified microstructures,that is,h-Al2Cu,s–Al2CuMg,and x-Al7Cu2 fe,are subjected to a comprehensive characterization by using calculations provided by computational thermodynamics software,optical microscopy,and scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive ***,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization tests have been applied to analyze the corrosion performance of samples of both alloys ***–Petch-type equations are proposed to represent the HV dependence onλ*** is shown that the addition of Mg to the Al–Cu alloy has led to a considerable increase in HV;however,the Al–Cu binary alloy is shown to have lower corrosion current density(icorr)as well as higher polarization resistance as compared to the corresponding results of the Al–Cu–Mg ternary alloy.

Plurilingualism and Critical Literacies in the Teaching of English in Higher Education

This work aims at discussing the concept of critical and plurilingual English teaching within the context of the Interdisciplinary Higher Education Program recently implemented at the University of Campinas, Brazil. This program aims at widening possibilities for public students to have access to Higher Education. The teaching of English as a foreign language is part of the curriculum and one of the challenges faced was to design a language course that meant to be meaningful to students and able to develop the necessary knowledge and literacies for active citizenship as well. A discursive approach to language was adopted and, this way, Bakhtinian theories, re-contextualized to the educational field, support the claim for the development of critical literacy in the process. Along with the concept of multiliteracies, linked to the notion of speech genres, the idea of a plurilingual, plurivocal, and pluristylistic language teaching is theoretically discussed and briefly illustrated. The results show that such an approach successfully led to meaningful and critical practices in the language classroom in Higher Education.

Analytical results of Cam ranh-Tuy Phong Fault Characteristics and Its relation to Mud Eruption in Nam Trung Bo Area, Viet Nam

By analyzing the satellite images, topology map, geology map, geomorphology map, and field survey data, this study has determined the Cam ranh-Tuy Phong fault in the south Central area, Viet Nam has NE-sW orientation and inclines to sE with high slope angle of 70-80°. During the Pliocene-Quaternary period, the Cam ranh-Tuy Phong fault is left-lateral movement with the extension mechanisms, which formed the graben have an NE-sW orientation, deposited by Quaternary sediment. The fracture systems and fault are the channels for the mineral water and hot water to move up from the deep zone in the area of Cam Thinh Dong, Ha Nhi, Vinh Hao, Nha Me, Tuy Thinh..., and also to be the channels for the mud material, clay and underground water to move from below zone to the surface to form high mud mounds. The analytical results of clay mud have identified clay mineral composition to be main montmorilonit, illite, kaolinite, calcite, chlorite. The occurrence of montmorilonit minerals in this study area is characterized by the alkali-rich environment. The chemical composition of calcite is determined forming in the environment of with pH 〉 9, characterized by the add climates. Besides, other analytical results of clay mud also identified some minerals, such as： ankerite （fe, Mg）CO3, calcite and some accessory minerals such as： fluorite, lepidocrokit with the participation hydrothermal process.

studies on the Antioxidant Potential of Extracts from Unripe Fruit of Carica papaya

The antioxidant activities of the ethyl acetate fraction and aqueous extract of unripe fruit of Carica papaya were compared and investigated in vitro using thiobarbituric reactive species （TBARs） assay, total phenol content, evaluation of reactive oxygen species （ROs） in liver mitochondria, fe2＋ chelating and 2,2-diphenyl-lpicrylhydrazyl （DPPH） scavenging activities. Both extracts had high antioxidant properties and could inhibit feE＋ and sodium nitroprusside lipid peroxidation in the liver. Total phenol content of ethyl acetate fraction and aqueous extract were 4.50 ±2.26 and 1.21±3.12 mg/g, respectively. Both extracts had a maximal effect at the lowest concentrations tested （15 μg/mL for ethyl acetate and 150 μg/mL for the aqueous）. Ethyl acetate fraction showed that the highest values of antioxidant activity is probably associated with its high phenolic content, fe2＋ chelating and DPPH scavenging activities. It is therefore concluded that ethyl acetate fraction and to a less extent the aqueous fractions are potent inhibitor of lipid peroxidation.

Microstructural evolution during unsteady-state horizontal solidification of Al-si-Mg(356) alloy

The increasing demand for reducing vehicle weight in the automotive and aerospace industries has raised the need to develop improved structural aluminum-based alloys. Thus, horizontal solidification experiment with the Al-7%si-0.3%Mg（mass fraction） alloy was carried out. A water-cooled horizontal directional solidification device was developed and used. Microstructural characterization was carried out using traditional techniques of metallography, optical microscopy and sEM microscopy. The Thermo-Calc software was used to generate the solidification path of the investigated alloy with addition of 0.17% fe（mass fraction）. The effects of the thermal parameters such as the growth rate（VL）, cooling rate（TC） and solidification local time（tsL） on the formation of the macrostructure and on the dendritic microstructure evolution were evaluated. A columnar to equiaxed transition（CET） was found for VL and TC values from 0.82 to 0.98 mm/s and from 1.71 to 2.55 ℃/s, respectively. The microstructure was characterized by the measurement of the primary and secondary dendrite arm spacings（λ1 and λ2, respectively）. Experimental laws of λ1 =f（VL, TC） and λ2 =f（tsL） were proposed. It is observed that the interdendritic region is composed of the following eutectic mixture： a（Al）＋si＋p-Al8 Mg3 fe si6＋q-Mg2 si.
