Membrane fluidity,permeability,and surface charges are controlled by phospholipid metabolism and *** the importance of phosphatidic acid(PA)as a bioactive molecule,the mechanical properties of PA translocation and subcellular accumulation are ***,we used a mobilizable,highly responsive genetically encoded fluorescent indicator,green fluorescent protein(GFP)-N160RbohD,to monitor PA dynamics in living *** majority of GFP-N160RbohD accumulated at the plasma membrane and sensitively responded to changes in PA ***,pharmacological,and genetic analyses illustrated that both salinity and abscisic acid rapidly enhanced GFP-N160RbohD fluorescence at the plasma membrane,which mainly depended on hydrolysis of phospholipase *** contrast,heat stress induced nuclear translocation of PA indicated by GFP-N160RbohD through a process that required diacylglycerol kinase activity,as well as secretory and endocytic ***,we showed that gravity triggers asymmetric PA distribution at the root apex,a response that is suppressed by PLDz2 *** broad utility of the PA sensor will expand our mechanistic understanding of numerous lipid-associated physiological and cell biological processes and facilitate screening for protein candidates that the synthesis,transport,and metabolism of PA.

Arabidopsis EXO70A1 recruits Patellin3 to the cell membrane independent of its role as an exocyst subunit

The exocyst is a well-known complex which tethers vesicles at the cell membrane before fusion. Whether an individual subunit can execute a unique function is largely unknown. Using yeast-two-hybrid （Y2H） analysis, we found that EXO7oA1 interacted with the GOLD domain of Patellin3 （PATL3）. The direct EXO7OA1-PATL3 interaction was supported by in vitro and in vivo experiments. In Arabidopsis, PATL3-GFP colocalized with EXO7oA1 predominantly at the cell membrane, and PATL3 localization was insensitive to BFA and TryA23. Remarkably, in the exo7oa1 mutant, PATL3 proteins accumulated as punctate structures within the cytosol, which did not colocalize with several endomembrane compartment markers, and was insensitive to BFA. Furthermore, PATL3 localization was not changed in the exo7oe2, PRsec6 or exo84b mutants. These data suggested that EXO7oA1, but not other exocyst subunits, was responsible for PATL3 localization, which is independent of its role in secretory/recycling vesicletethering/fusion. Both EXO7oA1 and PATL3 were shown to bind PI4P and PI（4,5）P2 in vitro. Evidence was obtained that the other four members of the PATL family bound to EXO7oA1 as well, and shared a similar localization pattern as PATL3. These findings offered new insights into exocyst subunitspecific function, and provided data and tools for further characterization of PATL family proteins.

The Early Stoics and Aristotelian Ethics

Aristotle＇s philosophical legacy should be accepted as one of the historical influences that shaped Stoic moral and psychological thought, even if this influence needs to be demonstrated in each individual case rather than be taken for granted in general. Having discussed the methodological issues raised by the state of our documented evidence, I focus upon the particular philosophical agenda bequeathed by Aristotle, the issue of the structure of the human soul, and the theory of character and emotion. I argue that Aristotle＇s influence upon the Stoics is not only a matter of their adoption of Aristotelian themes or concepts but that, given the aporetic quality of much of Aristotle＇s writing, they accepted options as discussed, and actually rejected, by Aristotle. In particular, the Stoics have been influenced by deliberations in which Aristotle discusses, adapts or rejects positions associated with the philosophical hero of the Stoics, Socrates （in particular in De an. II, 9-10 and EN VII, 1-11）. Seen in this light, the Aristotelian legacy appears to be even more relevant to explaining distinctive and in particular Socratic features of Stoic moral psychology than has been previously assumed.

Non-Hermitian degeneracies,also known as exceptional points(EPs),have been the focus of much attention due to their singular eigenvalue surface ***,as pertaining to a non-Hermitian metasurface platform,the reduction of an eigenspace dimensionality at the EP has been investigated mostly in a passive repetitive ***,we propose an electrical and spectral way of resolving chiral EPs and clarifying the consequences of chiral mode collapsing of a non-Hermitian gated graphene *** specifically,the measured non-Hermitian Jones matrix in parameter space enables the quantification of nonorthogonality of polarisation eigenstates and half-integer topological charges associated with a chiral ***,the output polarisation state can be made orthogonal to the coalesced polarisation eigenstate of the metasurface,revealing the missing dimension at the chiral *** addition,the maximal nonorthogonality at the chiral EP leads to a blocking of one of the cross-polarised transmission pathways and,consequently,the observation of enhanced asymmetric polarisation *** anticipate that electrically controllable non-Hermitian metasurface platforms can serve as an interesting framework for the investigation of rich non-Hermitian polarisation dynamics around chiral EPs.

Cryptococcus gattii infections in China： extent of the problem？

Approximately 70 species are accepted in the genus Cryptococcus; however, only two species,Cryptococcus neoformans （ C. neoformans, AD and D） and C. gattii （serotypes B responsible for almost all human infections,2,3 and resulted in over 1 million cryptococcosis in the world each year with casualties.4 It is generally assumed that serotypes A, and C） are cryptococcal new cases of over 600000 cryptococcal infections are acquired by inhalation of fungal spores, desiccated cells, or poorly encapsulated yeasts from environmental niches, such as decayed wood debris of certain tree species or bird droppings.5 Epidemiological surveys have shown that C. neoformans caused about 80% of cryptococcosis cases globally each year, particularly in immunocompromised persons, such as human immunodeficiency virus （HIV）-infected people and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome （AIDS） patients,2＇3 while C. gattii primarily infects apparently immunocompetent hosts, and is mainly responsible for the remaining cases of cryptococcosls6,7

Remote sensing ***-based monitoring of agricultural terrace degradation

The degradation of agricultural terraces is considered a major challenge to soil and water conservation in steep-slope *** terracing is a widespread conservation practice,its sustainability is threatened by adverse climatic and man-made *** studies have shown the impact of terrace designs on the formation of runoff pathways,causing degradation processes on terrace platforms(*** erosion)and walls(***,landslides,collapse).This study evaluates a remote sensing versus a field-based approach to monitor hydrological processes responsible for terrace degradation,as tested in a north-Italian *** field-based approach was based on spatially measured Soil Moisture Content(SMC)using a Time Domain Reflectometry(TDR)instrument,which clearly revealed saturation hotspots around two damaged terraces in the study ***,these zones showed a particular cross-sectional SMC profile,with the highest saturation close to the terrace platform *** remote sensing approach was based on aerial imagery acquired by an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV)and photogrammetric reconstruction of the vineyard geomorphology,allowing terrain-based analysis and physical erosion *** this approach,simulations indicated that terrace damages could be partly explained by the formation of preferential runoff pathways caused by the terrace *** parallel methodology allowed a comparison of the merits and limitations of either approach,as done in light of published *** occurrence of two SMC hotspots at terrace edges(and their non-typical cross-sectional profiles)could be better understood from simulated surface flow *** the causal relationship between heterogeneous soil saturation and terrace instability has been previously reported in literature,the novelty of the presented study is the use of topsoil SMC as an indicator of potential damages,favouring the scalability compared to fixed,local and often intrusive terrace sub-sur

Phylogeny of the industrial relevant,thermophilic genera Myceliophthora and Corynascus

Species of the genus Myceliophthora and its teleomorph Corynascus have attracted increasing interest due to their potential to produce thermostable *** study re-assessed the phylogenetic relationship of 49 isolates of nine species belonging to Myceliophthora and *** species,***,was shown not to belong to the genus Myceliophthora and should be placed in the genus *** other species belonged to two phylogenetic clusters:mesophilic fungi with the type species *** and ***,and thermophilic fungi with ***,*** and *** phylogenetic data provides no clear separation of the two genera Corynascus and *** avoid confusion in future taxonomic studies,it is proposed that all existing Corynascus species be renamed to Myceliophthora,which is the old name and the one more frequently ***,this study identified two groups within the isolates listed as *** and assigned one group(five isolates)to *** based on AFLP analysis and mating *** study provides new insights into the genetic differences within the genus Myceliophthora and will therefore be essential for the interpretation of future genomic and physiological studies of these species.
