Background: Adolescents are disproportionally affected by sexually transmitted infections (STI). Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Trichomonas vaginalis (TV) are the most frequent curable STI in adolescents, causing serious consequences for their reproductive health. Therefore, we aimed to determine the prevalence and incidence of CT and TV, as well as their risk factors in pregnant adolescents from Belém, northern Brazilian Amazon. Methods: This prospective study enrolled 199 adolescents up to 20 weeks of pregnancy. They were scheduled for follow-up visit between 28 and 29 weeks of pregnancy. Sociodemographic and behavioral data were obtained by interview. Cervicovaginal samples were taken to test for TV, CT, Neisseria gonorrhoeae and bacterial vaginosis. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to test the association of prevalent/incident CT and TV with the variables. Results: Prevalence of cervical CT infection was 33.7% (n = 67/ 199), and for trichomoniasis it was 4.0% (n = 8/199). Cervical ectopy increased the risk for prevalent CT (OR, 1.93;95% CI, 1.01 - 3.70), while having treated vaginal discharge in the past (OR, 0.51;95% CI, 0.26 - 0.98) and being married (OR, 0.10;95% CI, 0.01 - 0.83) were protective against current CT and TV, respectively. Among the 95 (47.7%) adolescents who completed follow-up, 15 cases of incident CT were identified. Incident CT was associated with having a formal or informal job (OR, 28.4;95% CI, 2.1 - 391.6) and bacterial vaginosis treatment at the baseline (OR, 0.08;95% CI, 0.01 - 0.69). Conclusion: Prevalence and incidence rates of TV and CT are high in this population devoid of STI routine screening. Treatment of bacterial vaginosis may benefit this population by reducing risk for CT acquisition.

Objective: The goal of this study was to determine the prevalence of C. trachomatis in women diagnosed with infertility attending the Outpatient Clinic of Infertility from Botucatu Medical School, UNESP, Brazil. Patients and Methods: This molecular study enrolled a total of 112 women. Among these patients, 62 presented primary infertility while 50 presented secondary infertility. The criteria for eligibility included women who were: reproductive-aged;no prior report of seroconversion for HIV;no antibiotic or vaginal cream used in the preceding 30 days;and abstinence from sexual intercourse for 72 hours before the visit. The women were submitted to a gynecological examination and cervical samples were collected with an endocervical cytobrush for molecular analysis of C. trachomatis. Results: The prevalence of chlamydial infection was 8% with similar prevalence between primary (8.1%) and secondary (8.0%) infertility. Conclusion: Considering the asymptomatic nature of chlamydial infection and its association with tubal factor infertility, there is a pressing need to incorporate the screening of C. trachomatis infection as part of the routine investigation for infertility. The early diagnostic by screening can minimize complications and reduce Public Health costs with Assisted Reproductive Technology.

Introduction: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is undoubtedly the commonest androgen disorder in woman’s fertile period and certainly one of the most prevalent causes of anovulation. The syndrome has an estimated prevalence of 4% - 10% among women of childbearing age. Previously, our group demonstrated the effect of gonadal white adipose tissue transplantation from wild-type lean and fertile female mice to isogenic obese anovulatory ob/ob mice. These complex metabolic interrelationships between obesity and PCOS have yet to be fully understood. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of gonadal white adipose tissue (WAT) transplantation from the wild-type lean and fertile female mice to isogenic obese, anovulatory mice (Lep ob/Lep ob) on the expression of glycolysis- and TCA cycle-related genes and obtain a general view of the glucose metabolism in the brain of these animals. Methods: Fifteen ob/ob mice ranging from 2 to 3 months of age were divided into 3 experimental groups: control normal weight (n = 5), obese control (n = 5) and obese 7 days leptin treated (n = 5). The whole brains of the mice were processed for RNA extraction. The samples from each group were used to perform PCR assays using an array plate containing 84 primers to study the glucose metabolism-related genes. Results: The glycolysis- and TCA cycle-related genes were significantly downregulated. The most significantly affected genes were as follows: for glycolysis (fold regulation with p gm1,Bpgm,Aldob, andEno3 (119, 45, 18, and 28 times less, respectively);and for the TCA cycle (fold regulation with p glucose metabolism. The simulation of oat grain productivity does not contemplate the use of efficient models that involve important management with meteorological elements. The objective of the study is to propose a mathematical model capable of simulating the oat grain productivity through the management of nitrogen and growth regulator with variables related to the plant and to meteorological elements. In this study, two experiments were conducted in the years of 2013, 2014 and 2015: one to quantify biomass productivity and another to determine grain productivity and lodging at the management doses of nitrogen and growth regulator. The experimental design was a randomized block with four replications in a 4 × 3 factorial scheme for 0, 200, 400 and 600 mL·ha-1 growth regulator doses and 30, 90 and 150 kg·ha-1 nitrogen doses, respectively. During the crop cycles, the meteorological variables thermal sum, radiation and rainfall were quantified. The mathematical model proposed, which combines polynomial regression of the harvest index with multiple linear regression of the biological productivity, is efficient in the simulation of oat grains productivity with the use of growth regulator, nitrogen and meteorological elements. Thus, it adds to the conventional models of simulation and becomes an aid tool for making decisions regarding the management of oats culture.

Cervids show a high degree of abnormalities in their sperm ***,this study aimed to select high-quality spermatozoa using magnetic-activated sperm sorting(MASS)compared to density gradient centrifugation(DgC)by assessing the post-selection cell *** from six Mazama deer was collected by electroejaculation after chemical *** semen was analyzed in four samples:Fresh,DgC,SEMgood-non-apoptotic fraction,and SEMpoor-apoptotic *** material was analyzed for motility and vigor(light microscopy),concentration(Neubauer chamber),semen morphology(phase contrast),and supravital staining test(eosin/nigrosine).The DgC method used 20 x 106 cells in 90%and 45%percoll®*** MASS used 10 x 106 cells with 20μl of iron nanoparticles attached to Annexin V and filtration in a magnetic separation *** processing methods(DgC and MASS)were effective in producing high-quality sperm samples,with a marked reduction in abnormalities from 41.83±10.25(fresh)to 14.83±3.17(DgC)and 12±3.01(SEMgood),with 80.3%±2.06 livings *** findings suggest that this nanotechnological method,using nanoparticles,effectively produces high-quality semen samples in cervids for use in assisted reproduction.
