Structural Evolution Patterns of FCC-Type Gold Nanoclusters

Recent progress in the research of atomically-precise metal nanoclusters has identified a series of exceptionally stable nanoclusters with specific chemical compositions. Structural determination on such "magic size" nanoclusters revealed a variety of unique structures such as decahedron, icosahedron, as well as hexagonal close packing(hcp) and body-centered cubic(bcc) packing arrangements in gold nanoclusters, which are largely different from the face-centered cubic(fcc) structure in conventional gold nanoparticles. The characteristic geometrical structures enable the nanoclusters to exhibit interesting properties, and these properties are in close correlation with their atomic structures according to the recent studies. Experimental and theoretical analyses have been applied in the structural identification aiming to clarify the universal principle in the structural evolution of nanoclusters. In this mini-review, we summarize recent studies on periodic structural evolution of fcc-based gold nanoclusters protected by thiolates. A series of nanoclusters exhibit one-dimensional growth along the [001] direction in a layer-by-layer manner from Au_(23)(TBBT)_(20) to Au_(36)(TBBT)_(24),Au_(44)(TBBT)_(28), and to Au_(52)(TBBT)_(32)(TBBT: 4-tert-butylbenzenethiolate). The optical properties of these nanoclusters also evolve periodically based on steady-state and ultrafast spectroscopy. In addition, two-dimensional growth from Au_(44)(TBBT)_(28) toward both [100] and [010] directions leads to the Au_(92)(TBBT)_(44) nanocluster, and the recently reported Au_(52)(PET)_(32)(PET: 2-phenylethanethiol) also follows this growth pattern with partial removal of the layer. Theoretical predictions of relevant fcc nanoclusters include Au_(60)(SCH_3)_(36), Au_(68)(SCH_3)_(40), Au_(76)(SCH_3)_(44), etc, for the continuation of 1 D growth pattern, as well as Au_(68)(SR)_(38)mediating the 2 D growth pattern from Au_(44)(TBBT)_(28) to Au_(92)(TBBT)_(44). A study of Corrosion Protection of Aluminum Metal by Tetraethoxysilane Plasma Polymerized Coatings -Influence of Aluminum Surface Pretreatments-

The corrosion-protective performance of plasma-polymerized (PP) coatings on pretreated aluminum substrates has been investigated by cathodic polarization curve measurement. The surface composition and electronic properties of the pretreated and PP film coated metal surfaces were also characterized by XPS and the temperature-programmed photoelectron emission (TPPE). A PP coating was prepared on the pretreated surfaces by plasma polymerization of a mixture of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) monomer vapor and oxygen using a 13.56MHz radiofrequency generator. The polarization curve of PP film coated samples was measured in NaCl aqueous solution. The weight loss rate calculated from the value of the corrosion current of the curve was used to estimate the protective performance of the PP film coated samples. Argon plasma treatment of the metal surface gave much better corrosion-protective performance than pretreatments such as oxidation by heating in air and diamond scratching. The XPS analysis indicated that the silicon oxide assigned to SiO2 was formed on the PP film coated surface. The TPPE analysis revealed that the electron emission characteristics for the metal surfaces pretreated only were strongly influenced by the pretreatments, while all the PP film coated samples exhibited nearly the same electron emission trend with a much decreased intensity.

Performance and stability analysis of SOFC containing thin and dense gadolinium-doped ceria interlayer sintered at low temperature

Gadolinium-doped ceria(GDC)interlayers are required to prevent the interfacial reaction between La_(0.6)Sr_(0.4)Co_(0.2)Fe_(0.8)O_(3)(LSCF)cathode and Y_(2)O_(3)-stabilized ZrO 2(YSZ)electrolyte in solid oxide fuel cells(SOFCs).However,it's difficult to prepare a thin and dense GDC interlayer on the sintered half-cell at a low *** this study,the physical vapor deposition(PVD)method was employed to success-fully manufacture dense GDC interlayers with the thickness of 1 m *** influences of GDC sintering temperature(900℃,1000℃ and 1100℃)on cell performance characteristics and degradation behavior were *** cell with GDC interlayer sintered at 1100?C showed the lowest degradation rate during the 216-h *** best stability was attributed to the most effective inhibition of Sr diffusion by the GDC interlayer,which was demonstrated by the almost unchanged Ohmic and polari-zation resistances during the aging stage and the negligible Sr enrichment at YSZ/GDC *** to the conventional screen-printed GDC interlayers(sintered above 1250℃),the GDC inter-layer prepared by the PVD method and sintered at 1100℃ was significantly denser and thinner,showing a promising application prospect due to its benefits for cell stability.

The numerical and physical issues of simulations on compressible turbulence are reviewed in the present paper. An outline of the global spectral methods and the progress of recent local spectral methods are illustrated. Several typical subjects in this field are studied, including homogeneous isotropic turbulence, autoignition in premixed turbulence, interaction between flames and turbulence, and shock wave in turbulence. The results of the numerical simulations are discussed, enabling us to discover and to understand the physical phenomena which have not been solved by experiments.

Equal Sex Ratios of a Marine Green Alga, Bryopsis plumosa

By finding some important culture conditions as below, we succeeded in experimentally controlling the whole life history of a dioecious marine green alga, Bryopsis plumosa （Hudson） C. Agardh. In this study, we focused on the primary and secondary sex ratios （i.e. at inception and maturity） using these culture techniques. Gametogenesis was induced by culturing haploid gametophytes with Provasoli＇s enriched seawater （PES） medium under a 14：10 h light： dark cycle at 14 ℃. Formed zygotes grew into diploid sporophytes, which were cultured for 3 months with PES medium under a 14：10 h light ： nbsp;dark cycle at 18℃. Then they were transferred into Schreiber medium and cultured under a 10：14 h light： dark cycle at 22℃. Within 1 week, zoosporogenesis was observed. Zoospores were released within a couple of days. Each zoospore soon germinated and grew into a unisexual gametophyte. The primary sex ratio was examined in gametophytes that originated from a single sporophyte. The secondary sex ratio was studied in the field. Both were estimated as 1：1. Synchronized meiotic cell divisions might occur during zoosporogenesis dividing each sex-determining factor evenly among zoospores. Given the equal sex ratio at maturity, there seems to be no environmental factor that differentially affects the survival of male or female gametophytes in nature.

In this paper, we are concerned with the uniqueness and the non-degeneracy of positive radial solutions for a class of semilinear elliptic equations. Using detailed ODE anal- ysis, we extend previous results to cases where nonlinear terms may have sublinear growth. As an application, we obtain the uniqueness and the non-degeneracy of ground states for modified SchrSdinger equations.
