Safety and effi cacy of hepatitis A vaccine in children with chronic liver diseas

AIM： To study the safety and efficacy of hepatitis A vaccine （HAV） in children with chronic liver disease of various etiologies. METHODS： Eleven children with chronic liver disease and thirteen age- and sex-matched controls negative for HAV antibodies were vaccinated against hepatitis A after they gave their informed consent. Children with uncontrolled coagulopathy or signs of hepatic decompensation were excluded. The vaccine （Havrix： 720 ELISA units in 0.5 mL, from GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals） was given intramuscularly in the deltoid in 2 doses 6 mo apart. Children were tested for HAV antibodies one and six months after the ist dose and one month after the 2^nd dose. Total serum bilirubin, alanine aminotransferase （ALT）, and aspartate aminotransferase （AST） were determined immediately before and after one month of the 1st dose of the vaccine. RESULTS： Only 7 out of the 11 patients were positive for HAV antibodies after the 1^st dose of the vaccine, as compared to 100% of the controls. One month after the 2nd dose, all patients tested were positive for HAV antibodies. No deterioration in liver functions of patients was noted after vaccination. No adverse events, immediate or late, were reported by the mothers after each dose of the vaccine. CONCLUSION： Hepatitis A vaccine is both safe and effective in this small studied group of children with chronic liver disease. Given the high seroconversion rate, post-vaccination testing for HAV antibodies is not needed.

Management of tear trough deformity with and without tear trough-orbicularis retaining ligament complex release in transconjunctival blepharoplasty: a comparative study

AIM: To evaluate the effect of releasing the orbicularis retaining ligament(ORL) complex of the tear trough combined with the transconjunctival blepharoplasty in the surgical management of tear trough deformity compared with the effect of blepharoplasty alone. METHODS: A prospective, randomized(by closed envelope technique), controlled surgical trial which included 50 patients(100 eyes) with bilateral visible tear trough deformity and lower eyelid fat bulging, was divided into two groups where 25 patients(50 eyes) had tear trough-ORL release with blepharoplasty and 25 patients(50 eyes) didn't. Qualitative and quantitative assessments of tear trough deformity were done at 6 mo postoperatively, achieving grade 0 or 1 of Barton's classification was considered a success. Standardized photographic documentation of each patient was done pre and postoperatively, also assessment of the patients' satisfaction postoperatively was done and ranked as excellent, very good, good or fair. RESULTS: There was statistically significant difference between the two groups in the overall aesthetic results postoperatively regarding the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the tear trough deformity, where patients who had tear trough-ORL complex release had more successful outcomes than those of the second group. CONCLUSION: ORL release should be done in patients with tear trough deformity in order to release the tethering effect of this ligament which causes the prominence of the naso jugal groove.

With the help of Aspen Plus,a two-dimensional unsteady CFD model is developed to simulate the coal gasification process in a fixed bed gasifier.A developed and validated two dimensional CFD model for coal gasification has been used to predict and assess the viability of the syngas generation from coal gasification employing the updraft fixed bed *** process rate model and the sub-model of gas generation are *** particle size variation and char burning during gasification are also taken into *** order to verify the model and increase the understanding of gasification characteristics,a set of experiments and numerical comparisons have been carried *** simulated results in the bed are used to predict the composition of syngas and the conversion of *** model proposed in this paper is a promising tool for simulating the coal gasification process in a fixed bed gasifier.

近几十年期间,在种群和个体受干扰后,对作为早期指示剂的生物标记物的研究受到越来越多的关注。我们用对水生生态系统污染敏感的生物标记物双壳类软体动物(文蛤)来评估两种有机磷杀虫剂(甲基毒死蜱、草甘膦)的影响。文蛤是水生生态系统污染的一种敏感的指示物种。在不同时间段测定文蛤中不同组织的非酶的(谷胱苷肽)和酶的(过氧化氢酶)抗氧化剂,作为文蛤中生物标记物的反应。在实验室条件下,测定了脂质过氧化作用、蛋白羰基含量、总蛋白含量、总脂质含量以及胆碱酯酶的活性。对不同的生物标记与杀虫剂的生物体内积累的相互关系进行了研究。甲基毒死蜱在文蛤组织中具有最大的诱导氧化胁迫的潜能,导致脂质过氧化反应增加并抑制抗氧化剂。而且,鳃是对该反应最敏感的器官。文蛤是一种极好的甲基毒死蜱的积聚者,因为暴露60天后,可以测定到其组织中浓度为824.0 mg/kg w.w的甲基毒死蜱。随着在草甘膦中暴露时间的增加,与背景水平相比,组织中草甘膦的浓度增加大约8×103mg/kg w.w。可以得出这样的结论:在一种生物中测定几种生物标记物是有用的。在双壳类中,蛋白质的羰基诱导可用于双壳类中化学污染物诱导的氧化胁迫的生物指示剂。抗氧化剂的防御成分是敏感的参数,是评估污染的水生生态系统的有用的生物标记物。辅以蛤组织的化学分析,生物标记参数能够提供一种有力的监测工具。

Adsorption of CO, CO2, NO and NO2on Boron Nitride Nanotubes: DFT Study

The adsorption of CO, CO2, NO and CO2 gas molecules on different chiralities of single boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) is investigated, applying the density functional theory and using basis set 6 - 31 g (d,p). The energetic, electronic properties and surface reactivity have been discussed. We found that the best BNNT for adsorbing the CO, CO2, NO and NO2 gas molecules is (5,0) BNNT with adsorption energy of -0.27, -0.37 eV, -0.23 and -0.92 eV, respectively. Also, the electronic character of (5,0), (9,0), (5,5) and (6,6) BNNTs is found to be not affected by the adsorption of CO, CO2, NO and NO2 gas molecules. It is found that the dipole moments of zig-zag (5,0) and (9,0) BNNTs are always higher than the arm-chair (5,5) and (6,6) BNNTs. Also, it is noticed that the highest dipole moment is for (9,0) BNNT.

Adsorption of CO, CO2, NO and NO2on Carbon Boron Nitride Hetero Junction: DFT Study

The adsorption of CO, CO2, NO and CO2 gas molecules on different diameters and chiralities of carbon nanotube-boron nitride nanotube (CNT-BNNT) heterojunctions is investigated, applying the density functional theory and using basis set 6 - 31 g (d,p). The energetic, electronic properties and surface reactivity have been discussed. We found that the best CNT-BNNT heterojunctions for adsorbing the CO, NO, CO2 and NO2 gas molecules is (5,0) CNT-BNNT heterojunction through forming C-N bonds with adsorption energy of -0.26, -0.41 eV, -0.33 and -0.63 eV, respectively. Also, the adsorption of CO, NO, CO2 and NO2 gas molecules on (5,5) and (6,6) CNT-BNNT heterojunctions does not affect the electronic character of the CNT-BNNT heterojunctions, however the adsorption of NO and NO2 gas molecules on (5,0) and (9,0)CNT-BNNT heterojunctions in case of forming C-B bonds increases the band gaps to 1.21 eV and 1.52 eV, respectively. In addition, it is reported that the values of dipole moment for armchair (5,5) and (6,6) CNT-BNNT heterojunctions are not affected by gas adsorption. Also, for the zig-zag (5,0) and (9,0) CNT-BNNT heterojunctions, the values of dipole moment increase through forming C-N bonds and decrease through forming C-B bonds. In addition, it is reported that the highest dipole moment is obtained for (9,0) CNT-BNNT heterojunctions. Therefore, the zig-zag CNT-BNNT heterojunctions can be selected as good candidate for gas sensors.

Kidney Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma(KIRC)is a malignant tumor that carries a substantial risk of morbidity and *** MMP family assumes a crucial role in tumor invasion and *** study aimed to uncover the mechanistic relevance of the MMP gene family as a therapeutic target and diagnostic biomarker in Kidney Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma(KIRC)through a comprehensive approach encompassing both computational and molecular ***,Cytoscape,UALCAN,GEPIA,OncoDB,HPA,cBioPortal,GSEA,TIMER,ENCORI,DrugBank,targeted bisulfite sequencing(bisulfite-seq),conventional PCR,Sanger sequencing,and RT-qPCR based analyses were used in the present study to analyze MMP gene family members to accurately determine a few hub genes that can be utilized as both therapeutic targets and diagnostic biomarkers for *** performing STRING and Cytohubba analyses of the 24 MMP gene family members,MMP2(matrix metallopeptidase 2),MMP9(matrix metallopeptidase 9),MMP12(matrix metallopeptidase 12),and MMP16(matrix metallopeptidase 16)genes were denoted as hub genes having highest degree *** analyzing MMP2,MMP9,MMP12,and MMP16 via various TCGA databases and RT-qPCR technique across clinical samples and KIRC cell lines,interestingly,all these hub genes were found significantly overexpressed at mRNA and protein levels in KIRC samples relative to *** notable effect of the up-regulated MMP2,MMP9,MMP12,and MMP16 was also documented on the overall survival(OS)of the KIRC ***,targeted bisulfite-sequencing(bisulfite-seq)analysis revealed that promoter hypomethylation pattern was associated with up-regulation of hub genes(MMP2,MMP9,MMP12,and MMP16).In addition to this,hub genes were involved in various diverse oncogenic *** MMP gene family members(MMP2,MMP9,MMP12,and MMP16)may serve as therapeutic targets and prognostic biomarkers in KIRC.

In the present study, we investigated the biochemical alterations and gene expression of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism after oral administration of vitamin A and E for 2 months in diet-induced obese Wistar rats. Vitamin A and E administration reduced significantly the increase in body weight and food intake and normalized the alterations in lipid profiles in obese rats compared to normal rats. Moreover, both vitamins decreased the fat accumulation in liver tissues of obese rats. Finally, they up-regulated mRNA expression of Pyruvate Kinase (PK) and Glucose Transporter-2 (GLUT-2), and increased lipolysis and cholesterol metabolism through up-regulation of lipoprotein lipase (LPL), Sterol Responsible Element Binding Protein-1a (STREBP-1a) and STREBP-1c mRNA expression. In conclusion, vitamin A and E regulate gene expression of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, and also ameliorate changes associated with obesity induced by high fat diet in Wistar rats.
