Background:Chinese Danggui(Angelica sinensis)and Japanese Danggui(Angelica acutiloba)are evaluated as the same in using and critical of quality control in Vietnamese *** Vietnam,Japanese Danggui were acclimatized and cultivated in several regions in recent *** the huge climatic difference between Vietnam and Japan,Japanese Danggui grows very well in ***,there are no studies to assess the overall quality of this medicinal *** and Objectives:The aim of this study is to develop a method to identify and assay simultaneously 5 component compounds of these crude herbs:chlorogenic acid,ferulic acid,scopoletin,xanthotoxin and ligustilide by high-performance liquid chromatography with photodiode array detector(HPLC-PDA).Materials and Methods:The procedure was optimized by using column Phenomenex Gemini 5μm PR C18,15 x 4,6 mm with the detection wavelength set at 321 nm for detector PDA and mobile phase was composed of(A)ACN and(B)aqueous solution 1%of acid acetic using a gradient *** were performed at 30°C with a flow rate of 1.0 mL/***:The developped method were fully validated for linearity,accuracy,recovery and met the validation requirements,proved practical applicability for the quality control of these herbs and related ***:The method was successfully applied to the quantification of five markers simultaneously from collected samples.

Industrial and medical applications of fiber Bragg gratings(Invited Paper)

The uses of optical fibers are numerous, and over the past few decades, they have extended from optical fiber communications to a wide variety of sensing applications. In particular, fiber Bragg grating（FBG） sensors inscribed in single-mode optical fibers offer significant advantages over more conventional electrical sensors and have been successfully deployed in many different industries. In this Review, we review the applications of intrinsic FBG pressure and flow sensors in oil and gas and the deployment of FBG sensing networks in *** promising prospect of using polymer FBGs in wearable medical devices is also described.

报道了用激光全息刻写技术结合感光聚合材料体系制作介观尺度二维准周期结构(准晶).并在前期工作的基础上,研究了不同曝光量对二维空气柱孔径的影响,不同偏振对准晶结构花样的影响.实验结果显示,可以制作的二维准晶的空气柱孔径可达100nm,而且结构均匀,无缺陷面积大.用此实验系统可以制作多种花样二维甚至是三维准晶结构.目前,除激光全息刻写技术外,用其他传统精密机械加工技术来人工制作介观准晶体尚存在很大挑战性.

Exacerbated VEGF up-regulation accompanies diabetes-aggravated hemorrhage in mice after experimental cerebral ischemia and delayed reperfusion

Reperfusion therapy is the preferred treatment for ischemic stroke,but is hindered by its short treatment window,especially in patients with diabetes whose reperfusion after prolonged ischemia is often accompanied by exacerbated *** mechanisms underlying exacerbated hemorrhage are not fully *** study aimed to identify this mechanism by inducing prolonged 2-hour transient intraluminal middle cerebral artery occlusion in diabetic Ins2Akita/+mice to mimic patients with diabetes undergoing delayed mechanical *** results showed that at as early as 2 hours after reperfusion,Ins2Akita/+mice exhibited rapid development of neurological deficits,increased infarct and hemorrhagic transformation,together with exacerbated down-regulation of tight-junction protein ZO-1 and upregulation of blood-brain barrier-disrupting matrix metallopeptidase 2 and matrix metallopeptidase 9 when compared with normoglycemic Ins2+/+*** indicated that diabetes led to the rapid compromise of vessel integrity immediately after reperfusion,and consequently earlier death and further aggravation of hemorrhagic transformation 22 hours after *** observation was associated with earlier and stronger up-regulation of pro-angiogenic vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and its downstream phospho-Erk1/2 at 2 hours after reperfusion,which was suggestive of premature angiogenesis induced by early VEGF up-regulation,resulting in rapid vessel disintegration in diabetic *** reticulum stress-related pro-apoptotic C/EBP homologous protein was overexpressed in challenged Ins2Akita/+mice,which suggests that the exacerbated VEGF up-regulation may be caused by overwhelming endoplasmic reticulum stress under diabetic *** conclusion,the results mimicked complications in patients with diabetes undergoing delayed mechanical thrombectomy,and diabetes-induced accelerated VEGF up-regulation is likely to underlie exacerbated hemorrhagic transformat

Clinical management of portopulmonary hypertension

BACKGROUND: Portopulmonary hypertension (PPH) is defined as the development of pulmonary arterial hypertension associated with increased pulmonary vascular resistance complicated by portal hypertension, with or without advanced hepatic disease. In spite of the relatively rare prevalence, the clinical implications of PPH are significant. It has high perioperative morbidity and mortality. This review is an update of current pathogenesis, diagnosis and therapy of PPH. DATA SOURCES: An English-language literature search was conducted using PubMed (1980-2006) on portopulmonary hypertension. RESULTS: Echocardiographically identified patients with elevated pulmonary artery systolic pressure (>50 mmHg) receive right heart catheterization. Epoprostenol (prostacyclin), a potent pulmonary and systemic vasodilator with anti-platelet aggregating activity, and bosentan, an endothelin receptor antagonist, have so far proven beneficial to patients with PPH. CONCLUSIONS: After an accurate diagnosis of PPH treatment should (at a minimum) focus on reduction of mean pulmonary arterial pressure to less than 35 mmHg prior to orthotopic liver transplantation. However, orthotopic liver transplantation currently remains the only therapy to resolve PPH.

On Generating Discrete Integrable Systems via Lie Algebras and Commutator Equations

In the paper,we introduce the Lie algebras and the commutator equations to rewrite the Tu-d scheme for generating discrete integrable systems *** the approach the various loop algebras of the Lie algebra A_1are defined so that the well-known Toda hierarchy and a novel discrete integrable system are obtained,respectively.A reduction of the later hierarchy is just right the famous Ablowitz-Ladik ***,via two different enlarging Lie algebras of the Lie algebra A_1,we derive two resulting differential-difference integrable couplings of the Toda hierarchy,of course,they are all various discrete expanding integrable models of the Toda *** the introduced spectral matrices are higher degrees,the way presented in the paper is more convenient to generate discrete integrable equations than the Tu-d scheme by using the software Maple.

Traditional Vietnamese Medicine has its own development based on the local endemic herbs,but it also inherits from Traditional Chinese Medicine using Chinese herbal *** the history of cultural exchange between two countries,the adoption of Chinese Danggui,Angelica sinensis(Oliv.)Diels.,has been made by Vietnamese traditional medicine practitioners for a long ***,the acclimatization has never been *** Danggui,or Angelica acutiloba Kitagawa,is recently being acclimatized and cultivated in several Vietnamese *** the huge climate change between the two countries,the herb adapted exquisitely well to the humid tropical ***,so far,there are no studies that have evaluated the effect of acclimatization on the overall quality of this medicinal *** aim of our study is screening secondary metabolites of this acclimatized herb for new natural compound(s),if *** analysis of flavonoid fraction from this herb led to the identification of two known compounds which previously have not been isolated from this species *** detection showed that the herb has reacted to the new environment.

Seropharmacological Study on Osteogenic Effects of Post-Absorption Ingredients of An Osteoprotective Herbal Formula

Objective： To further investigate the in vitro effects of an osteoprotective herbal formula ＂ELP＂（Herba Epimedii, Fructus Ligustri Lucidi and Fructus Psora/eae） using seropharmacological approach. Methods： Rats were fed with ELP or its individual component herbs for 2 days. The serum containing the post-absorbed ingredients of the herbal items were collected for cell culture using UMR106 cell, RAW264.7 cell and mesenchymal stem cell （MSC） isolated from the bone marrow of the rats. The effects of the herbal-containing serum on cell toxicity were detected by 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay; bromodeoxyuridine assay was conducted to measure the cell proliferation of UMR106 cell and MSC; cell activity was measured using colorimetric method, and mRNA expression of runt-related transcription factor 2 （Runx2）, alkaline phosphatase （ALP） and osteopontin （OPN） of UMR106 and MSC as well as matrix metalloproteinase 9 （MMP-9）, tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase （TRAP） and cathepsin K of RAW264.7 were analyzed using real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction. Results： ELP and its component serum exhibited no cytotoxic effects on the cells. The ELP-containing serum increased the proliferation of UMR106 cell and MSC by 25.7% and 14.4%, respectively and the alkaline phosphatase activity of MSC was increased by 42.6%. On the contrary, it inhibited the RAW264.7 cell differentiation by 29.2%. ELP serum upregulated the Runx2 expression of UMR and MSC by 1.18 fold and 1.27 fold, respectively. It also upregulated ALP and OPN expression in MSC by 1.69- and 2.12-fold, respectively. On the other hand, ELP serum down-regulated MMP-9 and cathepsin K expression of RAW264.7 cell by 0.46- and 0.36-fold, respectively. Conclusions： The serum of the animals fed with ELP contains active ingredients which are effective in promoting osteogenesis and inhibiting osteoclastogenesis.

Seeing Human Weight from a Single RGB-D Image

Human weight estimation is useful in a variety of potential applications, e.g., targeted advertisement, entertainment scenarios and forensic science. However, estimating weight only from color cues is particularly challenging since these cues are quite sensitive to lighting and imaging conditions. In this article, we propose a novel weight estimator based on a single RGB-D image, which utilizes the visual color cues and depth information. Our main contributions are ***, we construct the W8-RGBD dataset including RGB-D images of different people with ground truth weight. Second,the novel sideview shape feature and the feature fusion model are proposed to facilitate weight estimation. Additionally, we consider gender as another important factor for human weight estimation. Third, we conduct comprehensive experiments using various regression models and feature fusion models on the new weight dataset, and encouraging results are obtained based on the proposed features and models.
