this paper studies stratified magnetohydrodynamic （MHD） flow of tan- gent hyperbolic nanofluid past an inclined exponentially stretching surface. the flow is subjected to velocity, thermal, and solutal boundary conditions. the partial differential systems are reduced to ordinary differential systems using appropriate transformations. the reduced systems are solved for convergent series solutions. the velocity, temperature, and concentration fields are discussed for different physical parameters. the results indi- cate that the temperature and the thermal boundary layer thickness increase noticeably for large values of Brownian motion and thermophoresis effects. It is also observed that the buoyancy parameter strengthens the velocity field, showing a decreasing behavior of temperature and nanoparticle volume fraction profiles.

Aim: to investigate the relationship between 2D:4D and testosterone in men attending an infertility clinic and men drawn from the general population. Methods: Data on 2D:4D and testosterone from two samples were collected: (1) 43 men attending an infertility clinic, and (2) 51 men drawn from the general population without regard to fertility. Results: In sample (1) there were negative associations between 2D:4D and testicular function, and men with lower 2D:4D in their right compared to left hand had higher testosterone levels than men with higher 2D:4D in their right compared to left hand. Sample (2) showed no significant associations between 2D:4D or side differences in 2E>:4D and testosterone. Conclusion: Adult levels of testosterone may be related to aspects of 2D:4D in samples which contain men with compromised testicular function, but not in men from normative samples. Associations between 2D:4D and fertility-associated traits probably arise from early organisational effects of testosterone rather than from activational effects of current testosterone.

Objective: Patients with Chronic Low Back Pain (CLBP) show arousal, attentiona l and cognitive disturbances. the sleep state dependent P50 midlatency auditory evoked potential was used to determine if patients with CLBP [with and without c o-morbid depression (DEP)] show quantitative disturbances in the manifestation of the P50 potential. Methods: P50 potential latency,amplitude and habituation t o repetitive stimuli at 250,500and 1000 ms interstimulus intervals (ISIs) was re corded, along with the McGill Pain Questionnaire-Short Form (MPQ-SF).CLBP subj ects (n=42) were compared with Controls (n=43), and with subjects with DEP only (n=6). Of the CLBP subjects, 20/42 had clinical depression (CLBP+DEP); 8/20 wer e taking anti-depressant medication (CLBP+DEP+med), the others were not (CLBP +DEP-med). Results: there were no differences (ANOVA) in age, sex or P50 poten tial latency, although there was a trend towards increased latencies in CLBP gro ups. P50 potential amplitude was lower in CLBP groups, but not in sub-groups, a gain indicating a trend. P50 potential habituation was decreased in the DEP only subjects at the 250 m ISI, and decreased in CLBP+DEPmed subjects at the 500 ms ISI. this difference was not present in CLBP+DEP+med subjects. the MPQ-SF re vealed that patients with CLBP and CLBP+DEP-med showed lower pain scores than CLBP+DEP+med patients. Conclusions: there is decreased habituation of the P50 potential habituation in unmedicated patients with CLBP+DEP compared to C ***: Patients with CLBP+DEP-med may be less able to disregard incoming sensory information, including painful sensations, but anti-depressan t medications help correct this deficit. However, their perception of pain may b e increased by medication.

A variety of electrodiagnostic methods are used to confirm the diagnosis of a cute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (AIDP), but difficulties are freq uent during the first few weeks of weakness. We compared the nerve conduction st udies (NCS) of patients with AIDP to those with critical illness polyneuropathy (CIP), a subacute axonal polyneuropathy. New electrodiagnostic criteria with gra ded certainty (normal, nondiagnostic, suggestive, highly suggestive, and definit e) were designed and applied in a blinded manner to both groups. Among the AIDP patients, 64% met the highly suggestive and definite criteria (specificity 95 - 100% , P the CIP group fell in the nondiagnostic criteria (P the relative preservation of the sural sensory response in spite of at least two abnormal sensory NCS in the upper limb suggested acute de myelination (sensitivity 48% , specificity 96% , P ted with absent or prolonged F waves. Motor and sensory r esponse amplitudes were lower in the CIP group, with comparable mean motor and s ensory distal latencies and motor conduction velocities. Motor conduction blocks were present in 10% of nerves in AIDP and were not encountered in CIP. the fr equency of absent or delayedFwaves and absent H reflex was similar in both group s. the correlation coefficient of the cerebrospinal fluid protein concentration with the designed criteria was higher in the AIDP group (r=0.9). We conclude tha t a new criterion with graded certainty is of higher specificity in the majority of patients with early AIDP.

Huge amounts of various polymers are being used in many fields with numerous benefits. However, their great ability to ignition and rapid flame spreading make these materials dangerous for human life and properties due to the release of highly toxic combustion products. the present work aims to investigate several methods of sampling and identification of aromatic hydrocarbons produced by controlled burning of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) using a toxicity tube furnace. Five different sampling methods were used: solid phase micro extraction (SPME), syringe, tedlar bags, sorption tubes, and gas-solution absorbers (midget impingers). the produced hydrocarbons were analysed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry with and without pyrolysis. Among the tested techniques, the most convenient sampling method was using syringe with a glass vessel which allowed detection of the highest amount of aromatic hydrocarbons at both 800°C and 600°C, and then followed by SPME. On the other hand, the use of gas-solution absorber (midget impinger) showed poorer results. Regarding the use of tedlar bags and sorption tubes, they did not give satisfactory results. Several carcinogenic or possibly carcinogenic compounds were identified in the combustion products, such as benzene, naphthalene, anthracene and pyrene.
