Mars, the intriguing red planet, is one of the planets most similar to the Earth in our solar system. It is widely accepted that Mars could have had a warm and wet climate in its early history supported by numerous lines of evidence, e.g. topography, canyons, outflow channels, presence of phyllosilicates and evaporative salts,sedimentary format.on, and many others (e.g.[1]), and thus Mars is believed to once have a potentially habitable environment which could be able to supply fundamental condit.ons for the evolut.on of potential lives.

Wood use and forest management by Neolithic millet farmers at the Xinglong site,northern China

the origin and development.of agriculture and its relat.onship with climate change are hotly debated topics among environmental *** this study,we analyzed wood charcoal materials from the Neolithic Xinglong site in northern China in order to understand the woody vegetat.on around the site and how early millet farmers shaped local *** results suggest that the area around the Xinglong sites during 8700-7000 yr BP was primarily woodlands,including Prunus sibirica shrubs,Ulmus and Acer forests,and Populus stands near *** 8000 to 7000 yr BP,the warm and humid climate probably contributed to the expansion of Acer,Rhamnus,and Juniperus,and may have facilitated the development.of early millet *** these ancient wood fragments that we studied,the high percent.of Prunus charcoal appears to indicate an abundance of fruit trees,which might have constituted the main component.of local ***,the wood taxa illustrate the existence of a variety of ecological habitats,and it is logical to assume that people made full use of the locally available wood ***,Populus and Ulmus were the dominant sources of *** results of tree-ring curvature analyses indicate that people mainly collected trunks or large branches of Ulmus,Populus,Acer,and Juniperus *** interpret the increasing use of Prunus twigs and the declining percentage of Prunus charcoal in the period between 8000-7000 yr BP as indicating that people started to protect and manage wild fruit *** may have started pruning to acquire more food resources as part.of the cultural responses and adaptat.on strategies employed by these early millet cultivators.

owing to the unique structure,anode-free lithium metal batteries(AFLMBs)have higher energy density and lower product.on cost than tradit.onal lithium metal batteries(LMBs)or lithium-ion batteries(LIBs),However,AFLMBs suffer from an inherently finite Li reservoir and exhibit poor cycle stability,low Coulombic efficiency(CE)and severe dendrite *** this work,polydiallyl lithium disulfide(PDS-Li)was successfully synthesized and coated on Cu current collector by elect.ochemical *** PDS-Li acts as an addit.onal lithium resource to compensate for the irreversible loss of lithium during *** addit.on,the special structure and lithiophilicity of PDS-Li contribute to lower nucleat.on overpotential and uniform lithium *** coupled with Li-rich manganese-based(LRM)cat.ode of Li1.2Mn0.54Ni0.13Co0.13o2,the anode-free full cell exhibits significantly improved cycle stability over 100 cycles and capacity retent.on of 63.3%and 57%after 80 and 100 cycles,*** believe that PDS-Li can be used to ensure stable cycling performance and high-energy-density in AFLMBs.

Four decades of full-scale nit.ous oxide emission inventory in China

China is among the top nit.ous oxide（N2o）-emitting countries, but existing nat.onal inventories do not provide full-scale emissions including both natural and anthropogenic sources. We conducted a four-decade（1980–2020） of comprehensive quantificat.on of Chinese N2o inventory using empirical emission factor met.od for anthropogenic sources and t.o up-to-date process-based models for natural sources. total N2o emissions peaked at 2287.4（1774.8–2799.9） Gg N2o yr-1in 2018, and agriculture-developed regions, like the East, Northeast, and Central, were the top N2o-emitting regions. Agricultural N2o emissions have started to decrease after 2016 due to the decline of nit.ogen fertilizat.on applicat.ons, while, industrial and energetic sources have been dramatically increasing after 2005. N2o emissions from agriculture, industry,energy, and waste represented 49.3%, 26.4%, 17.5%, and 6.7% of the anthropogenic emissions in 2020,respectively, which revealed that it is imperative to prioritize N2o emission mitigat.on in agriculture,industry, and energy. Natural N2o sources, dominated by forests, have been steadily growing from 317.3（290.3–344.1） Gg N2o yr-1in 1980 to 376.2（335.5–407.2） Gg N2o yr-1in 2020. our study produces a Full-scale Annual N2o dataset in China（FAN2020）, providing emergent counting to refine the current nat.onal N2o inventories.

t.o-dimensional hafnium-based semiconductors and their heterostructures with native oxides have been shown unique physical properties and potential elect.onic and optoelect.onic ***,the scalable synthesis met.ods for ultrathin layered hafnium-based semiconductor laterally epitaxy growth and its heterostructure are still restricted,also for the understanding of its format.on ***,we report the stable sublimat.on of alkali halide vapor assisted synthesis strategy for high-quality 2D HfSe_(2) nanosheets via chemical vapor ***-crystalline ultrathin 2D HfSe_(2) nanosheets were systematically grown by tuning the growth parameters,reaching the lateral size of 6‒40μm and the thickness down to 4.5 *** scalable amorphous Hfo_(2)and HfSe_(2)heterostructures were achieved by the cont.ollable oxidat.on,which benefited from the approximate zero Gibbs free energy of unstable 2D HfSe_(2) *** crystal structure,elemental,and time dependent Raman characterizat.on were carried out to understand surface precipitated Se atoms and the format.on of amorphous Hf−o bonds,confirming the slow surface oxidat.on and lattice incorporat.on of oxygen *** relatively smooth surface roughness and electrical potential change of Hfo_(2)−HfSe_(2) heterostructures indicate the excellent interface quality,which helps obtain the high performance memristor with high on/off rat.o of 105 and long retent.on period over 9000 *** work int.oduces a new vapor catalysts strategy for the synthesis of lateral 2D HfSe_(2) nanosheets,also providing the scalable oxidat.on of the Hf-based heterostructures for 2D elect.onic devices.

Achieving a highly robust zinc(Zn)metal anode is extremely important for improving the performance of aqueous Zn-ion batteries(AZIBs)for advancing“carbon neutrality”society,which is hampered by the uncont.ollable growth of Zn dendrite and severe side react.ons including hydrogen evolut.on react.on,corrosion,and passivat.on,***,an interlayer containing fluorinated zincophilic covalent.organic framework with sulfonic acid groups(CoF-S-F)is developed on Zn metal(Zn@CoF-S-F)as the artificial solid elect.olyte interface(SEI).Sulfonic acid group(-So_(3)H)in CoF-S-F can effectively ameliorate the desolvat.on process of hydrated Zn ions,and the three-dimensional channel with fluoride group(-F)can provide interconnected channels for the favorable transport.of Zn ions with ion-confinement effects,endowing Zn@CoF-S-F with dendrite-free morphology and suppressed side ***,Zn@CoF-S-F symmetric cell can stably cycle for 1,000 h with low average hysteresis voltage(50.5 m V)at the current density of 1.5 m A cm^(-2).Zn@CoF-S-F|Mn o_(2)cell delivers the discharge specific capacity of 206.8 m Ah g^(-1)at the current density of 1.2 A g^(-1)after 800 cycles with high-capacity retent.on(87.9%).Enlightening,building artificial SEI on metallic Zn surface with targeted design has been proved as the effective strategy to foster the practical applicat.on of high-performance AZIBs.

Solid oxide elect.olysis cells （SoECs）, displaying high current density and energy efficiency, have been proven to be an effective technique to elect.ochemically reduce Co2into Co. However, the insufficiency of cat.ode activity and stability is a tricky problem to be addressed for SoECs. Hence, it is urgent to develop suitable cat.ode materials with excellent catalytic activity and stability for further practical applicat.on of SoECs. Herein, a reduced perovskite oxide, Pr0.35Sr0.6Fe0.7Cu0.2Mo0.1o3-δ（PSFCM0.35）, is developed as SoECs cat.ode to elect.olyze Co2. After reduct.on in 10%H2/Ar, Cu and Fe nanoparticles are exsolved from the PSFCM0.35 lattice,resulting in a phase transformat.on from cubic perovskite to Ruddlesden–Popper （RP） perovskite with more oxygen vacancies. the exsolved metal nanoparticles are tightly attached to the perovskite substrate and afford more active sites to accelerate Co2adsorpt.on and dissociat.on on the cat.ode surface. the significantly strengthened Co2adsorpt.on capacity obtained after reduct.on is demonstrated by in situ Fourier transforminfrared（Ft-IR） spectra. Symmetric cells with the reduced PSFCM0.35 （RPSFCM0.35）elect.ode exhibit a low polarizat.on resistance of 0.43Ωcm2at850℃. Single elect.olysis cells with the R-PSFCM0.35 cat.ode display an outstanding current density of 2947 mA cm-2at 850℃and 1.6 V. In addit.on, the catalytic stability of the R-PSFCM0.35 cat.ode is also proved by operating at 800℃with an applied constant current density of600 mA cm-2for 100 h.
