Proposal for valleytronic materials:Ferrovalley metal and valley gapless semiconductor

Valleytronic materials can provide new degrees of freedom to future electronic *** this work,the concepts of the ferrovalley metal(FVM)and valley gapless semiconductor(VGS)are proposed,which can be achieved in valleytronic bilayer systems by electric field *** valleytronic bilayer systems,the interaction between out-of-plane ferroelectricity and A-type antiferromagnetism can induce layer-polarized anomalous valley Hall(LP-AVH)*** k and−k valleys of FVM are both metallic,and electron and hole carriers simultaneously *** the extreme case,the FVM can become VGS by analogizing spin gapless semiconductor(SGS).Moreover,it is proposed that the valley splitting enhancement and valley polarization reversal can be achieved by electric field engineering in valleytronic bilayer *** the bilayer RuBr_(2)as an example,our proposal is confirmed by the first-principle *** FVM and VGS can be achieved in bilayer RuBr_(2)by applying electric *** appropriate electric field range,increasing electric field can enhance valley splitting,and the valley polarization can be reversed by flipping electric field *** effectively tune valley properties by electric field in bilayer systems,the parent monolayer should possess out-of-plane magnetization,and have large valley *** results shed light on the possible role of electric field in tuning valleytronic bilayer systems,and provide a way to design the ferrovalley-related material by electric field.

the facile reconfiguration of phases plays a pivotal role in enhancing the electrocatalytic production of H2 through heterostructure *** chemical methods have been explored extensively for this purpose,plasma-based techniques offer a promising avenue for achieving heterostructured ***,the conventional plasma approach introduces complexities,leading to a multi-step fabrication process and challenges in precisely controlling partial surface structure modulation due to the intricate interaction *** our pursuit of heterostructures with optimized oxygen evolution reaction(OER)behavior,we have designed a facile auxiliary insulator-confined plasma system to directly attain a Ni_(3)N-NiO heterostructure(hNiNO).By meticulously controlling the surface heating process during plasma processing,such approach allows for the streamlined fabrication of hNiNO *** resulting nano-framework exhibits outstanding catalytic performance,as evidenced by its overpotential of 320 mV at a current density of 10 mA·cm^(-2),in an alkaline *** stands in stark contrast to the performance of NiO-covered Ni_(3)N fabricated using the conventional plasma method(sNiNO).Operando plasma diagnostics,coupled with numerical simulations,further substantiates the influence of surface heating due to auxiliary insulator confinement of the substrate on typical plasma parameters and the formation of the Ni_(3)N-NiO nanostructure,highlighting the pivotal role of controlled surface temperature in creating a high-performance heterostructured electrocatalyst.

Mixed Alkali-zinc Effects on thermo-mechanical Properties in Borosilicate Glasses

A series of mixed alkali-zinc borosilicate glasses with various r values(r=molar ratio of[ZnO]/([R^(2)O]+[ZnO]))from 0.00 to 1.00 were fabricated to probe the mixed alkali-zinc effects on thermo-mechanical *** nonlinear evolution of glass transition temperature(t_(g))with the addition of ZnO is ascribed to the competition of two converse factors,i e,the t_(g)depression as one of the colligative properties for a solution,on the one hand,and the enhancement of t_(g)due to the higher field strength of zinc cations compared to that of alkali ***,the nonlinear evolution of elastic moduli and coefficients of thermal expansion with r is attributed to the variance of intermediate-range clusters,which is confirmed by infrared and Raman scattering *** findings are very helpful in tailoring the performance of borosilicate glasses.

Reconcile the contradictory wettability requirements for the reduction and oxidation half-reactions in overall CO_(2) photoreduction via alternately hydrophobic surfaces

the overall photocatalytic CO_(2) reduction reaction(OPCRR)that can directly convert CO_(2) and H_(2)O into fuels represents a promising renewable energy conversion *** a typical redox reaction,the OPCRR involves two half-reactions:the CO_(2) reduction half-reaction(CRHR)and the water oxidation half-reaction(WOHR).Generally,both half-reactions can be promoted by adjusting the wettability of ***,there is a contradiction in wettability requirements for the two ***,CRHR prefers a hydrophobic surface that can accumulate more CO_(2) molecules on the active sites,ensuring the appropriate ratio of gas-phase(CO_(2))to liquid-phase(H_(2)O)***,the WOHR prefers a hydrophilic surface that can promote the departure of the gaseous product(O_(2))from the catalyst surface,preventing isolation between active sites and the reactant(H_(2)O).Here,we successfully reconciled the contradictory wettability requirements for the CRHR and WOHR by creating an alternately hydrophobic *** was achieved through a selectively hydrophobic modification method and a charge-transfer-control ***,the collaboratively promoted CRHR and WOHR led to a significantly enhanced OPCRR with a solar-to-fuel conversion efficiency of 0.186%.Notably,in ethanol production,the catalyst exhibited a 10.64-fold increase in generation rate(271.44μmol g^(-1)h~(-1))and a 4-fold increase in selectivity(55.77%)compared to the benchmark *** innovative approach holds great potential for application in universal overall reactions involving gas participation.

Higher incidence of steroid-induced ocular hypertension in keratoconus

Background:to compare intraocular pressure(IOP)changes following topical dexamethasone administration for 1 month in keratoconic versus normal ***:this is a retrospective,single-center,non-randomized case series evaluation of 350 *** groups were formed:normal/control Group A(n_(A)=73),eyes that underwent excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy;and keratoconic(kCN)Group B(n_(B)=277),eyes that were subjected to partial laser photorefractive keratectomy combined with collagen cross-linking(the Athens Protocol).All eyes received the same post-operative regimen of topical dexamethasone 0.1%for at least 1 *** applanation tonometry IOP readings and central corneal thickness(CCt)measurements were *** with induced ocular hypertension(OHt,defined as post-operative IOP higher than 21 mmHg),were identified and correlated to refractive procedure,gender,and corneal ***:At 4 weeks postoperatively,OHt was noted on 27.4%(20/73 eyes)in Group A,and 43.7%(121/277 eyes)in kCN Group B,(pths post-operatively(following 5-months of discontinuing topical dexamethasone treatment and commencing treatment of IOP-lowering medications),OHt rate was 1.8%in Group A and 3.9%in the kCN Group ***:this study demonstrates a potentially significant pre-disposition of keratoconic eyes to the development of steroid-induced OHt.

High-density triple-phase contact points for enhanced photocatalytic CO_(2) reduction to methanol

the efficiency of photocatalytic CO_(2) reduction reaction(PCRR)is restricted by the low solubility and mobility of CO_(2) in water,poor CO_(2) adsorption capacity of catalyst,and competition with hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).Recently,hydrophobic modification of the catalyst surface has been proposed as a potential solution to induce the formation of triple-phase contact points(tPCPs)of CO_(2)(gas phase),H_(2) O(liquid phase),and catalysts(solid phase)near the surface of the catalyst,enabling direct delivery of highly concentrated CO_(2) molecules to the active reaction sites,resulting in higher CO_(2) and lower H+surface *** tPCPs thus act as the ideal reaction points with enhanced PCRR and suppressed ***,the initial synthesis of triple-phase photocatalysts tends to possess a lower bulk density of tPCPs due to the simple structure leading to limited active points and CO_(2) adsorption ***,based on constructing a hydrophobic hierarchical porous tiO_(2)(o-HPt)with interconnected macropores and mesopores structure,we have significantly increased the density of tPCPs in a unit volume of the *** with hydrophobic macroporous tiO_(2)(o-MacPt)or mesoporous tiO_(2)(o-MesPt),the o-HPt with increased tPCP density leads to enhanced photoactivity,enabling a high methanol production rate with 1111.5μmol g^(−1) h^(−1) from *** results emphasize the significance of high-density tPCPs design and propose a potential path for developing efficient PCRR systems.

Epidemiology of work-related hand and wrist injuries in a referral center: A descriptive study

BACkGROUND Occupational hand and wrist injuries(OHWIs)account for 25%of work-related accidents in low-and middle-income *** Colombia,more than 500000 occupational accidents occurred in 2021,and although the rate declined to less than 5%in 2020 and 2021,at least one in four accidents involved a hand or wrist *** to describe the OHWIs in workers seen at the emergency room at a second-level hospital in *** An observational study was performed using data from workers who experienced OHWIs and attended a second-level hospital,between June,2020 and May,*** overall frequency of OHWIs,as well as their distribution by sociodemo-graphic,clinical,and occupational variables,are ***,association patterns between sex,anatomical area(fingers,hand,wrist),and type of job were analyzed by correspondence analysis(CA).RESULtS there were 2.101 workers treated for occupational accidents,423(20.3%)were cases of OHWIs,which mainly affected men(93.9%)with a median age of 31 years and who worked mainly in mining(75.9%).OHWIs were more common in the right upper extremity(55.3%)and comprised different types of injuries,such as contusion(42.1%),laceration(27.9%),fracture(18.7%),and crush injury(15.6%).they primarily affected the phalanges(95.2%),especially those of the first finger(25.7%).the CAs showed associations between the injured anatomical area and the worker’s job that differed in men and women(explained variance>90%).CONCLUSION One out of five workers who suffered occupational accidents in Cundinamarca,Columbia had an OHWI,affecting mainly males employed in *** occupational profile is likely to lead to prolonged rehabilitation,and permanent functional *** results might be useful for adjusting preventive measures in cluster risk groups.

Poroelastodynamic responses and elastic moduli of a transversely isotropic porous cylinder under forced deformation test

Existing transversely isotropic poroelastodynamics solutions are limited to infinite domains and without experimental validation. Furthermore, there is a lack of analytical simulations for the elastic moduli dispersion of fluid-saturated porous cylinders. to address these three limitations and investigate the mechanisms of moduli dispersion, we present the analytical solutions of the poromechanical responses and the elastic moduli dispersion of a transversely isotropic, fluid-saturated, finite porous cylinder subjected to a forced deformation test. through an example, we demonstrate the effects of loading frequency, boundary conditions, and material's anisotropy, dimension, and permeability on the responses of pore pressure,force, displacement, and dynamic elastic moduli of the cylinder. the specimen's responses are significantly influenced by the frequency of the applied load, resulting in a drained state at low frequencies and an undrained state at high frequencies. At high frequencies, the sample behaves identically for an open or a closed lateral boundary, and permeability has insignificant effects. the dynamic elastic moduli are mainly controlled by the loading frequency and the ratio of the sample's radius to its height. Lastly,we show excellent matches between the newly derived analytical solution and laboratory measurements on one clay and two shale samples from Mont terri.

Recent advancements in stem cell technology open a new door for patients suffering from diseases and disorders that have yet to be *** cell-based therapy,including human pluripotent stem cells(hPsCs)and multipotent mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs),has recently emerged as a key player in regenerative *** are defined as self-renewable cell types conferring the ability to differentiate into various cellular phenotypes of the human body,including three germ *** are multipotent progenitor cells possessing self-renewal ability(limited in vitro)and differentiation potential into mesenchymal lineages,according to the International Society for Cell and Gene therapy(ISCt).this review provides an update on recent clinical applications using either hPSCs or MSCs derived from bone marrow(BM),adipose tissue(At),or the umbilical cord(UC)for the treatment of human diseases,including neurological disorders,pulmonary dysfunctions,metabolic/endocrine-related diseases,reproductive disorders,skin burns,and cardiovascular ***,we discuss our own clinical trial experiences on targeted therapies using MsCs in a clinical setting,and we propose and discuss the MSC tissue origin concept and how MSC origin may contribute to the role of MSCs in downstream applications,with the ultimate objective of facilitating translational research in regenerative medicine into clinical *** mechanisms discussed here support the proposed hypothesis that BM-MSCs are potentially good candidates for brain and spinal cord injury treatment,At-MSCs are potentially good candidates for reproductive disorder treatment and skin regeneration,and UC-MsCs are potentially good candidates for pulmonary disease and acute respiratory distress svndrometreatment.
