Deuterium Retention and Physical Sputtering of Low Activation Ferritic Steel

Low activation materials have to be developed toward fusion demonstrationreactors. Ferritic steel, vanadium alloy and SiC/SiC composite are candidate materials of the firstwall, vacuum vessel and blanket components, respectively. Although changes of mechanical-thermalproperties owing to neutron irradiation have been investigated so far, there is little data for theplasma material interactions, such as fuel hydrogen retention and erosion. In the present study,deuterium retention and physical sputtering of low activation ferritic steel, F82H, wereinvestigated by using deuterium ion irradiation apparatus. After a ferritic steel sample wasirradiated by 1.7 keV D^+ ions, the weight loss was measured to obtain the physical sputteringyield. the sputtering yield was 0.04, comparable to that of stainless steel. In order to obtain theretained amount of deuterium, technique of thermal desorption spectroscopy (tDS) was employed to theirradiated sample. the retained deuterium desorbed at temperature ranging from 450 k to 700 k, inthe forms of DHO, D_2, D_2O and hydrocarbons. Hence, the deuterium retained can be reduced by bakingwith a relatively low temperature. the fluence dependence of retained amount of deuterium wasmeasured by changing the ion fluence. In the ferritic steel without mechanical polish, the retainedamount was large even when the fluence was low. In such a case, a large amount of deuterium wastrapped in the surface oxide layer containing O and C. When the fluence was large, the thickness ofsurface oxide layer was reduced by the ion sputtering, and then the retained amount in the oxidelayer decreased. In the case of a high fluence, the retained amount of deuterium became comparableto that of ferritic steel with mechanical polish or SS 316 L, and one order of magnitude smallerthan that of graphite. Application of kelvin Probe to Studies of Fusion Reactor Materials under Irradiation

Recently, the work function （WF） changes in metallic and ceramic materials to be potentially used in future fusion reactors have been examined by means of kelvin probe （kP）, under He ion irradiation in high energy （MeV） and / or low energy （500 eV） ranges. the results of polycrystalline Ni samples indicate that the 1 MeV beam only induces decrease in the WF within the experimental fluence range; whereas the irradiation of 500 eV beam results in decrease in the WF firstly, then increase till saturation. A dual layer surface model is employed to explain the observed phenomena, together with computer simulation results by SRIM code. Charges buildup on the surface of lithium ceramics has been found to greatly influence the probe output, which can be explained qualitatively using a model concerning an induction electric field due to external field and free charges on the ceramic surface.

Potential Oscillations of a Stainless Steel Electrode during Galvanostatic Polarization in a Mixed Solution of Sulfuric and Chromic Acids

Potential oscillations of a stainless steel electrode galvanostatically anodized have been observed in amixture of chromic and sulfuric acids. the potential regularly oscillated between 1.6 V vs. SCE (lower) and 2.1V(upper) with a certain frequency. the potential values are affected neither by the composition of chromic and sulfu-ric acids nor by the magnitude of applied current density although the potential frequency is very sensitive to theseparameters. this phenomenon is interpreted in terms of the repeated formation and disappearance of the saturatedlayer of dichromate ions on the electrode surface. Such scheme is consistent with the in situ FtIR spectroscopicresult that the concentration of Cr2O ions on the electrode surface increased with time during the polarization atthe lower potential but the change in concenetion of Cr2O ions was negligible at the higher potential.

An environmental friendly anodizing treatment (Anomag) from a phosphate-based so lution without heavy metals on AZ91D magnesium alloy was studied. the characteri stics of the coatings, such as structure, composition and corrosion resistance w ere investigated. the effects of this anodizing treatment on the mechanical prop erties were examined. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed that the structu re of the coatings is amorphous or glassy. In salt spray tests coatings with an average thickness of 10μm had an anticorrosive performance of over 1000 hours. Fatigue tests revealed that anodizing onto AZ91D magnesium alloy does not affect the fatigue strength. these results demonstrate the utility of this anodizing t reatment on magnesium alloy for application as a structural material, such as in the automotive field.

Characterization of mixing in an optimized designed t–t mixer with cylindrical elements

Passive micromixers are preferred over active mixers for many microfluidic applications due to their relative ease in integration into complex systems and operational *** also incur very low cost of ***,the degree of mixing is comparatively low in passive mixers than active mixers due to the absence of disturbance in the flow by external forces and the inherent laminar nature of microchannel *** designs of complex channel structures and three-dimensional geometries have been investigated in the past to obtain an efficient mixing in passive *** the studies on mixing enhancement with simple planar geometries of passive mixers have been few and *** present work aims to investigate the possibility of mixing enhancement by employing simple planar type designs,such as t-mixer and t–t mixer with cylindrical elements placed in the mixing *** mixing performance has been evaluated in the Reynolds number range of 6 *** results have shown that t–t mixer with cylindrical elements performed significantly well and obtained very good mixing quality over basic t-mixer for the entire range of Reynolds number(6 to 700).the device has also shown better mixing as compared to basic t–t mixer and t-mixer with cylindrical elements.A larger pair of vortices formed in the stagnation area due to the presence of a cylindrical element in the *** elements downstream caused significant enhancement in mixing due to splitting and recombining *** size of the cylindrical element in the t–t mixer has been optimized to obtain better mixing performance of the *** improvement in mixing quality by t–t mixer with cylindrical elements has been obtained at the expense of small rise in pressure drop as compared to other passive designs considered in this ***,the current design of t–t mixer with cylindrical elements can act as an effective and simple passive mixing device for various mi

transport mechanism in chemically reactive hybrid nanofluid flow containing gyrotactic micro-organisms over a curved oscillatory surface

this paper examines the transport analysis, including both heat transfer and mass transfer, in hybrid nanofluid flow containing gyrotactic microorganisms towards a curved oscillatory surface. the influence of magnetic fields is also inspected in terms of their physical characteristics. to depict the phenomena of transport, modified versions of both Fick's and Fourier's laws are used. Additionally, the characteristics of both heterogeneous and homogeneous chemical reactions are also incorporated. Utilizing a curvilinear coordinate system, the flow problem is formulated as partial differential equations(PDEs)for momentum, concentration, microorganism field, and energy. An analytical solution to the obtained flow equations is achieved utilizing the homotopy analysis method(HAM).the effects of significant flow parameters on the pressure and microorganism fields, velocity, oscillation velocity, concentration, and temperature distributions are shown via graphs. Furthermore, the variations in skin friction, mass transfer rate, heat transfer rate, and local motile number due to different involved parameters are presented in tables and are analyzed in detail. Graphical results indicate that the curves of velocity and temperature fields are enhanced as the values of the solid volume fraction variables *** is also verified that the concentration rate field decreases as the values of the homogeneous reaction strength parameter and the radius of curvature parameter increase, and it increases with the Schmidt number and the heterogeneous reaction strength *** outcomes show a favorable response of the motile number to advanced values of the Peclet number, the Schmidt number, the microorganism difference parameter, and the bio-convective Lewis number.

the spin polarized β-emitting nuclei12B (I π=1+,t 1/2=20.18 ms) were produced by the nuclear reaction11B(d, p)12B and by the selection technique of the incident deuteron energy and the12B recoil angle following the nuclear reaction. the nuclear magnetic moment of the short-lived nuclei12B was measured by β-NMR with the β-NMR and β-NQR setup established for the first time in China. the nuclear magnetic moment of12B was determined to be μ=0.99993±0.00048 nm org=0.99993±0.00048 after the precise correction of the knight shift.
