Simulation-based design optimization of the holographic wavefront sensor in closed-loop adaptive optics

Adaptive optics systems are used to compensate for wavefront distortions introduced by atmospheric *** distortions are corrected by an adaptable device,normally a deformable *** control signal of the mirror is based on the measurement delivered by a wavefront *** characteristics of the wavefront sensor are the measurement accuracy,the achievable measurement speed and the robustness against *** modal holographic wavefront sensor can theoretically provide the highest bandwidth compared to other state of the art wavefront sensors and it is robust against scintillation ***,the measurement accuracy suffers from crosstalk effects between different aberration modes that are present in the *** this paper we evaluate whether the sensor can be used effectively in a closed-loop AO system under realistic turbulence *** simulate realistic optical turbulence represented by more than 2500 aberration modes and take different signal-to-noise ratios into *** determine the performance of a closed-loop AO system based on the holographic *** counter the crosstalk effects,careful choice of the key design parameters of the sensor is ***,we apply an optimization method to find the best sensor design for maximizing the measurement *** modifying this method to take the changing effective turbulence conditions during closed-loop operation into account,we can improve the performance of the system,especially for demanding signal-to-noise-ratios,even ***,we propose to implement multiple holographic wavefront sensors without the use of additional hardware,to perform multiple measurement at the same *** show that the measurement accuracy of the sensor and with this the wavefront flatness can be increased significantly without reducing the bandwidth of the adaptive optics system.

Field and CFD Study of Fuel Distribution in Pulverized Fuel(PF)Boilers

The article presents both field and CFD results of a new concept of a mechanical pulverized fuel(PF)*** goal of the study was to improve the pulverized coal-air mixture separation in PF boilers where the fuel preparation and feeding system was operated in a combined coal and biomass grinding *** numerical analysis was preceded after a field study,where measurements were carried out in a pulverized coal-fired(PC)boiler equipped with a technology of NOx reduction by means of primary *** distribution of a pulverized coal-air mixture to the individual burners is one of the fundamental tasks of the combustion systems where the primary methods are implemented to control the NOx *** maintaining the proper distribution of fuel to the burners related primarily to the boilers where the coal and biomass co-grinding is *** the load of coal-mills and fuel type at the same time(i.e.,different types of biomass)could result in less effective separation of pulverized fuel particles in PF *** of an appropriate construction of a distributor will allow the better control of the combustion process which results in decreased NOx emission while keeping the proper combustion efficiency,i.e.,less unburned carbon(UBC)in the fly *** results of the field measurements made it possible to create a CFD distribution base model,which was used for the analysis of a new splitter construction to be used in a PF *** analysis of the numerical splitter enables precise analysis of its construction,including the efficiency of separation and the prediction of conveying of the coal and biomass particles.

Synthesis of luminescent KY_3F_(10) nanopowder multi-doped with lanthanide ions by a co-precipitation method

A series of KY3F10 nanophosphors doped with Gd3＋, Ce3＋ and Eu3＋ ions were obtained with the use of a co-precipitation method. The resulting products were white precipitates, consisting of spherical particles with diameter about 150-200 nm, which was confirmed using transmission electron microscopy （TEM） technique. Powder X-ray diffraction （XRD） and energy dispersive X-ray analysis （EDX） measurements confirmed appropriate structures of the nanoparticles obtained. Spectroscopic properties of the prod- ucts were examined on the basis of the measured excitation/emission spectra and luminescence decay curves. The synthesized sam- ples showed orange-red luminescence, characteristic for Eu3＋ ions. The reaction process was performed in required alkaline pH ad- justed with the use of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid （EDTA） and potassium hydroxide. The samples containing large amounts of Gd3＋ dooant ions exhibited a tendencv to form nroducts with different momhologies.

Competition of insect decomposers over large vertebrate carrion:Necrodes beetles(Silphidae)*** flies(Calliphoridae)

Large carrion is inhabited by highly variable and interactive communities of *** interactions in carrion insect communities have been recently the focus in carrion *** contrast,competition between carrion insects is rather *** we provide evidence that blow flies(Calliphoridae)and Necrodes beetles(Silphidae),dominant decomposers of large carcasses in terrestrial habitats,compete over *** reanalyzing the results from 90 pig carcasses,we demonstrated that the contribution of the flies and the beetles to the decay was negatively *** greater part of the large carrion pool was monopolized by blow flies,whereas Necrodes beetles abundantly colonized carcasses,on which blow flies were less effective as *** behavioral assays,we found that adult beetles killed 4 times more frequently feeding than postfeeding third instar larvae of the flies,with the large decrease in the killing frequency after the larvae reached the age of early third ***,adult Necrodes beetles preferentially killed the larvae that were before or in their peak *** study provides evidence that the interaction between blow flies and Necrodes beetles is a combination of indirect exploitative effects of the flies and direct interference effects of the beetles(the mixed competition).

Surface texture formation in precision machining of direct laser deposited tungsten carbide

This paper focuses on an analysis of the surface texture formed during precision machining of tungsten carbide. The work material was fabricated using direct laser deposition （DLD） technology. The experiment included precision milling of tungsten carbide samples with a monolithic torus cubic boron nitride tool and grinding with diamond and alumina cup wheels. An optical surface profiler was applied to the measurements of surface textures and roughness profiles. In addition, the micro-geometry of the milling cutter was measured with the appli- cation of an optical device. The surface roughness height was also estimated with the application of a model, which included kinematic-geometric parameters and minimum uncut chip thickness. The research revealed the occurrence of micro-grooves on the machined surface. The surface roughness height calculated on the basis of the traditional kinematic-geometric model was incompatible with the measurements. However, better agreement between the theoretical and experimental values was observed for the minimum uncut chip thickness model.

Scalable fabrication of high-rate micro-supercapacitors(MSCs)is highly desired for on-chip integration of energy storage *** virtue of the special self-assembly behavior of 2D materials during drying thin films of their liquid dispersion,a new inkjet printing technique of passivated graphene micro-flakes is developed to directly print MSCs with 3D networked porous *** presence of macroscale through-thickness pores provides fast ion transport pathways and improves the rate capability of the devices even with solid-state *** multiple-pass printing,the porous microstructure effectively absorbs the successively printed inks,allowing full printing of 3D structured MSCs comprising multiple vertically stacked cycles of current collectors,electrodes,and sold-state *** all-solid-state heterogeneous 3D MSCs exhibit excellent vertical scalability and high areal energy density and power density,evidently outperforming the MSCs fabricated through general printing techniques.

The long-term immunological effects of alloferon and its analogues in the mealworm Tenebrio mofitor

The subject of this article is a search for the long-term immunological effects of alloferon and 3 structural analogues of alloferon, which were earlier characterized by the highest pro-apoptotic activity in Tenebrio molitor. The differences in the actions of these peptides on immune response were observed. Alloferon increased nodulation and significantly phenoloxidase activity in the hemolymph of experimentally infected T. molitor. However, [Phe（p-NH2）^1 ]- and [Phe（p-OMe） ^1 ]-alloferon strongly inhibited cellular and humoral defense of the mealworm against Staphylococcus aureus infection. One day after injection of these peptides, the specific biochemical and morphological hallmarks of apoptosis in bacteria-challenged hemocytes were visible; in contrast, 3 days after peptides injection in all hemocytes, caspase activation was not observed. However, these new, circulating hemocytes differed from the control and the peptide-untreated bacteria-challenged hemocytes. They had an increased adhesion that led to a separation of viable, anucleated fragments of hemocytes that retain the ability to adhere and to form long filopodia. The peptide-induced separation ofhemocyte fragments may resemble the formation ofplatelets in mammals and perhaps play a role in sealing wounds in insects. The results of in vivo studies may suggest a long half-life of studied peptides in the hemolymph of mealworm. Moreover, we showed the importance of the N-terminal histidine residues at position one of the alloferon molecule for its immunological properties in insects. The results obtained here show that alloferon plays pleiotropic functions in insects.

On determining the weight of edges in map-representing graphs-applications of heuristic methods in planning escape routes

In the paper we discuss and compare two commonly used methods of finding the shortest paths in networks,namely Dijkstra’s and A**** compare their effectiveness in terms of traversing road network in circumstances that require swift decision making in the event of dynamically changing road conditions on the basis of studies conducted for evacuation *** build a proper model of such a network,a method of appropriate edge-weighting is introduced,based on empirical data collected by other ***,we use the basics of the theory of quasimetric spaces to introduce a heuristic to such graphs,which is easy to calculate *** heuristic we obtain is both admissible and consistent,which allows us to use it efficiently in A*search *** developed application can be used in studies into evacuation from hazardous *** this case,optimum calculative efficiency is achievable with a simultaneous reduction of calculation time(when compared to Dijkstra’s algorithm).Our application can be applied during the first stage,i.e.,prior to the occurrence of a disaster,since this is an appropriate time for preparation by planning,drilling,early warning,and designating the rescue services that are to participate in the following stages.

Aggregations of juveniles are dominant forms of social life in some insect *** societies are shaped by competitive and cooperative interactions of the larvae,in parallel with parental *** of necrophagous larvae are excellent systems to study these *** littoralis(Staphylinidae:Silphinae),a carrion beetle that colonizes cadavers of large vertebrates,forms massive juvenile *** spreading over carrion anal and oral exudates,the beetles form the feeding matrix,in which the heat is produced and by which adults presumably affect the fitness of the *** predict that exploitative competition shapes the behavior of *** larvae in their ***,cooperative interactions may also operate in these systems due mainly to the benefits of collective ***,indirect parental effects(i.e.,formation of the feeding matrix)probably modulate larval interactions within the *** manipulating parental effects(present/absent)and larval density(0.02−1.9 larvae/g of meat),we found a strong negative group-size effect on fitness components of ***,in colonies with parental effects over almost the entire density range,and in colonies without parental effects for densities larger than 0.5 larva/*** was accompanied by positive group-size effects in terms of development time(it shortened with larval density)and thermogenesis(it increased with larval density).A pronounced positive group-size effect on juvenile fitness was found only in colonies without parental effects and only in the low-density *** results support the hypothesis that larval societies of *** are shaped by exploitation competition.
