Comparison of light absorption and oxidative potential of biodiesel/diesel and chemicals/diesel blends soot particles

Soot particles,mainly coming from fuel combustion,affect climate forcing through absorbing light and also result in adverse human health *** biodiesel or additives blending with diesel was considered environmentally friendly,the understanding on absorbing and oxidative capacity of soot emitted from them are still *** watersoluble organic carbon(WSOC)content,surface chemical structure,light absorption and oxidative potential(OPDTT)of soot from biodiesel/diesel and chemicals/diesel blends were investigated utilizing total organic carbon analyzer,X-ray photoelectron spectrometer,ultraviolet–visible spectrophotometry and dithiothreitol(DTT)*** differences and correlations between soot properties were statistically ***/diesel blends soot owned significantly higher WSOC content,ratio of mass absorbing efficiency(MAE)in250 and 365 nm(E2/E3),OPDTT,and higher surface carbonyl *** biodiesel/diesel blends soot contained evidently higher aromatic carbon–oxygen single bond(ArC–O)content,and higher *** individual comparison of biodiesel/diesel blends showed20%coconut biodiesel blend owned the lowest WSOC,E2/E3 and OPDTT,while highest ArC–O and MAE365,representing strongest absorbing *** analysis showed OPDTTwas significantly positively correlated with ***,the evident negative correlation between MAE365 and OPDTT was *** results showed coconut biodiesel/diesel blends soot induced lower levels of oxidative potential,whereas absorption of light was higher,which have far reaching consequences on climate ***,it is important to evaluate the balance point between light-absorbing properties and oxidative potential,under the wide use of biodiesel.

Characterization particulate matter from several Chinese cooking dishes and implications in health effects

Cooking fume produced by oil and food at a high temperature releases large amount of fine particulate matter（PM） which have a potential hazard to human health. This chamber study investigated particle emission characteristics originated from using four types of oil（soybean oil, olive oil, peanut oil and lard） and different kinds of food materials（meat and vegetable）. The corresponding emission factors（EFs） of number, mass, surface area and volume for particles were discussed. Temporal variation of size-fractionated particle concentration showed that olive oil produced the highest number PM concentration for the entire cooking process. Multiple path particle dosimetry（MPPD） model was performed to predict deposition in the human respiratory tract. Results showed that the pulmonary airway deposition fraction was the largest. It was also found that particles produced from olive oil led to the highest deposition. We strongly recommend minimizing the moisture content of ingredients before cooking and giving priority to the use of peanut oil instead of olive oil to reduce human exposure to PM.

The presented study focused on developing an innovative decision-making framework to select the best renewable-power-plant technologies,considering comprehensive techno-economic and environmental *** to the favourable conditions,Australia was selected as the case study.A fuzzy-logic method and analytical hierarchy process were applied to prioritize different renewable-energy power *** techno-economic factors included levelized cost of energy,initial cost,simple payback time,and operation and maintenance costs along with environmental factors including carbon payback time,energy payback time and greenhouse-gas emissions were used to rank the power *** results showed that the capital cost and simple payback time had the highest priority from an economic point of *** comparison,greenhouse-gas emissions and carbon payback time were the dominant environmental *** analysis results provided economic and environmental priority tables for developing different power plants in the current state and a future scenario by *** fuzzy results and pairwise composite matrix of alternatives indicated that the onshore wind,offshore wind,single-axis tracker polycrystalline photovoltaic,single-axis tracker monocrystalline photovoltaic,fix-tilted polycrystalline photovoltaic and fix-tilted monocrystalline photovoltaic scored the highest in the current *** contrast,by 2030,the single-axis tracker photovoltaic power plants will be the best choice in the future scenario in ***,the results were used and analysed to recommend and suggest several policy implementations and future research studies.

Prolonged intermittent theta burst stimulation restores the balance between A_(2A)R-and A_(1)R-mediated adenosine signaling in the 6-hydroxidopamine model of Parkinson's disease

Transversal vibrations of double-plate systems

This paper presents an analytical and numerical analysis of free and forced transversal vibrations of an elastically connected double-plate system. Analytical solutions of a system of coupled partial differential equations, which describe corresponding dynamical free and forced processes, are obtained using Bernoulli＇s particular integral and Lagrange＇s method of variation constants. It is shown that one-mode vibrations correspond to two-frequency regime for free vibrations induced by initial conditions and to three-frequency regime for forced vibrations induced by one-frequency external excitation and corresponding initial conditions. The analytical solutions show that the elastic connec- tion between plates leads to the appearance of twofrequency regime of time function, which corresponds to one eigenamplitude function of one mode, and also that the time functions of different vibration modes are uncoupled, for each shape of vibrations. It has been proven that for both elastically connected plates, for every pair of m and n, two possibilities for appearance of the resonance dynamical states, as well as for appearance of the dynamical absorption, are present. Using the MathCad program, the corresponding visualizations of the characteristic forms of the plate middle surfaces through time are presented.

A non-isothermal Couette slip gas flow

A steady plane subsonic compressible non-isothermal Couette gas flow is analyzed for moderately high and low Reynolds *** flow channel is formed by two plates in relative *** cases are considered:(a) isothermal walls where the temperatures of the plates are equal and constant and(b) with constant but different plate *** Knudsen number is Kn 0.1,which corresponds to the slip and continuum *** flow is defined by continuity,Navier-Stokes and energy continuum equations,along with the velocity slip and the temperature jump first order boundary *** analytical solution for velocity and temperature is obtained by developing a perturbation *** first approximation corresponds to the continuum flow conditions,while the others represent the contribution of the rarefaction *** addition,a numerical solution of the problems is given to confirm the accuracy of the analytical *** exact analytical solution,for constant viscosity and conductivity is found for the isothermal walls case as *** is shown that it is entirely a substitution to the exact numerical solution for the isothermal walls case.

First-principles calculation of intrinsic defect chemistry and self-doping in PbTe

Semiconductor dopability is inherently limited by intrinsic defect *** many thermoelectric materials,narrow band gaps due to strong spin-orbit interactions make accurate atomic level predictions of intrinsic defect chemistry and self-doping computationally *** we use different levels of theory to model point defects in PbTe,and compare and contrast the results against each other and a large body of experimental *** find that to accurately reproduce the intrinsic defect chemistry and known self-doping behavior of PbTe,it is essential to(a)go beyond the semi-local GGA approximation to density functional theory,(b)include spin-orbit coupling,and(c)utilize many-body GW theory to describe the positions of individual band *** hybrid HSE functional with spin-orbit coupling included,in combination with the band edge shifts from G0W0 is the only approach that accurately captures both the intrinsic conductivity type of PbTe as function of synthesis conditions as well as the measured charge carrier concentrations,without the need for experimental *** results reaffirm the critical role of the position of individual band edges in defect calculations,and demonstrate that dopability can be accurately predicted in such challenging narrow band gap materials.

Microbiota and viral hepatitis:State of the art of a complex matter

Changes in gut microbiota influence both the gut and liver,which are strictly connected by the so-called“gut-liver axis”.The gut microbiota acts as a major determinant of this relationship in the onset and clinical course of liver *** to the results of several studies,gut dysbiosis is linked to viral hepatitis,mainly hepatitis C virus and hepatitis B virus *** bacteriaderived metabolites and cellular components are key molecules that affect liver function and modulate the pathology of viral *** studies showed that the gut microbiota produces various molecules,such as peptidoglycans,lipopolysaccharides,DNA,lipoteichoic acid,indole-derivatives,bile acids,and trimethylamine,which are translocated to the liver and interact with liver immune cells causing pathological ***,the existence of crosstalk between the gut microbiota and the liver and its implications on host health and pathologic status are essential factors impacting the etiology and therapeutic *** mechanisms behind the pathogenic role of gut-derived components on the pathogenesis of viral hepatitis remain unclear and not *** this review,we discuss the current findings of research on the bidirectional relationship of the components of gut microbiota and the progression of liver diseases and viral hepatitis and vice ***,this paper highlights the current therapeutic and preventive strategies,such as fecal transplantation,used to restore the gut microbiota composition and so improve host health.
