Background:Carnitine facilitates the flux of long-chain fatty acids for hepatic mitochondrial beta-oxidation,which acts to ameliorate the negative energy balance commonly affecting high-yielding dairy *** triggered by lipopolysaccharide(LPS)load can however pose a challenge to the metabolic integrity via the expression of pro-inflammatory mediators,leading to immune system activation and respective metabolic *** effect of enhanced carnitine availability on hepatic metabolome profiles during an inflammatory challenge has not yet been determined in dairy ***,Holstein cows were supplemented with 25 g/d rumen-protected carnitine from 42d prepartum until 126 d postpartum(n=16)or assigned to the control group with no supplementation during the same period(n=14).We biopsied the liver of the cows before(100 d postpartum)and after(112 d postpartum)an intravenous injection of 0.5μg/kg *** samples were subjected to a targeted metabolomics analysis using the AbsoluteIDQ p180 Kit(Biocrates Life Sciences AG,Innsbruck,Austria).Results:Multivariate statistical analyses revealed that hepatic metabolome profiles changed in relation to both the carnitine supplementation and the LPS *** the metabolite profiles on 100 d,carnitine increased the concentration of short-and long-chain acyl-carnitines,which may be explained by an enhanced mitochondrial fatty acid shuttle and hence greater energy *** LPS injection affected hepatic metabolite profiles only in the carnitine supplemented group,particularly altering the concentration of biogenic ***:Our results point to interactions between an acute hepatic inflammatory response and biogenic amine metabolism,depending on energy availability.

Managing power grids through topology actions: A comparative study between advanced rule-based and reinforcement learning agents

The operation of electricity grids has become increasingly complex due to the current upheaval and the increase in renewable energy *** a consequence,active grid management is reaching its limits with conventional *** the context of the Learning to Run a Power Network(L2RPN)challenge,it has been shown that Reinforcement Learning(RL)is an efficient and reliable approach with considerable potential for automatic grid *** this article,we analyse the submitted agent from Binbinchen and provide novel strategies to improve the agent,both for the RL and the rule-based *** main improvement is a N-1 strategy,where we consider topology actions that keep the grid stable,even if one line is ***,we also propose a topology reversion to the original grid,which proved to be *** improvements are tested against reference approaches on the challenge test sets and are able to increase the performance of the rule-based agent by 27%.In direct comparison between rule-based and RL agent we find similar ***,the RL agent has a clear computational *** also analyse the behaviour in an exemplary case in more detail to provide additional ***,we observe that through the N-1 strategy,the actions of both the rule-based and the RL agent become more diversified.

Spatio-temporal Variability of Soil Water at Three Seasonal Floodplain Sites: A Case Study in Tarim Basin,Northwest China

The floodplain -egetation of the Tarim River in Northwest China is strongly influenced by irrigated agriculture. The abstrac- tion of river water disturbs; the natural dynamics of the floodplain ecosystem. The human impact on the hydrological system by bank dams and the irrigation of cotton plantings have caused adverse changes of the Tarim River and its floodplains, so the current stocks of the typical Tugai vegetation show significant signs of degradation. Field studies of soils and statistical analysis of soil moisture data have shown that the vitality of the Tugai vegetation is primarily determined by its position to the riverbank and the groundwater. There exist complex interactions between soil hydrological conditions and the vitality of the vegetation. But the availability of water is not only influenced by the groundwater level and seasonal flood events. The spatial distribution of stocks at different states of vitality seems also to be decisively influenced by physical soil properties. Our results show that the water supply of plant communities is strongly in- fluenced by the soil texture. Spatial differences of soil moisture and corresponding soil water tensions may be the decisive factors for the zonafion of vegetation. Physical soil properties control the water retention and rising of capillary water from deeper soil layers and the phreatic zone and may supply the root systems of the phreatophytic vegetation with water. The vision of a Digital Earth calls for more dynamic information systems,new sources of information,and stronger capabilities for their *** networks have been identified as a major information source for the Digital Earth,while Semantic Web technologies have been proposed to facilitate *** far,sensor data are stored and published using the Observations&Measurements standard of the Open Geospatial Consortium(OGC)as data *** the advent of Volunteered Geographic Information and the Semantic Sensor Web,work on an ontological model gained importance within Sensor Web Enablement(SWE).In contrast to data models,an ontological approach abstracts from implementation details by focusing on modeling the physical world from the perspective of a particular *** restrict the interpretation of vocabularies toward their intended *** ongoing paradigm shift to Linked Sensor Data complements this *** questions have to be addressed:(1)how to refer to changing and frequently updated data sets using Uniform Resource Identifiers,and(2)how to establish meaningful links between those data sets,that is,observations,sensors,features of interest,and observed properties?In this paper,we present a Linked Data model and a RESTful proxy for OGC’s Sensor Observation Service to improve integration and inter-linkage of observation data for the Digital Earth.

The microwave electrothermal thruster （MET） is an electric propulsion device that uses an electromagnetic resonant cavity within which free-floating plasma is ignited and sustained in a propellant *** thrust is generated when the heated propellant gas is exhausted out of a gas-dynamic *** an empty cavity without any perturbing regions—e.g.,dielectric regions or antenna regions—it is fairly straightforward to accurately calculate the cavity＇s resonant frequency and describe the electric field intensity distribution within the ***,actual METs do contain perturbing regions,which means that analytical solutions are no longer possible to fully characterize the ***,the numerical methods to simulate the electric field intensity and distribution within the resonant cavity were *** simulation results are that with the cap height increasing,the resonant frequency and electric field strength decrease,also increasing the permittivity of dielectric material causes decreasing the resonant frequency and electric field strength.A decrease in resonant frequency and maximum electric field strength,and an increase in resonant bandwidth,were observed with increasing antenna *** an antenna of a given depth equals decreasing the depth.

Transplantation of an eight-organ multivisceraI graft in a patient with frozen abdomen after complicated Crohn's disease

To report an extended multivisceral transplantation （MVTx） including right kidney and ascending colon in a patient with complicated Crohn＇s disease （CD）. A 36-year old female suffering from short bowel syndrome and frozen abdomen due to fistulizing CD after multiple abdominal operations underwent MVTx of eight organs including stomach, pancreatoduodenal complex, liver, intestine, ascending colon, right kidney, right adrenal gland, and greater omentum in November 2003. Immunosuppression consisted of alemtuzumab, tacrolimus and steroids. The patient was off parenteral nutrition by postoperative wk 3. She experienced one episode of pneumonia. The patient recovered completely and discharged 2.5 mo and was doing well 30 mo after MVTx. This is one of the very rare cases in which a complete mulitivisceral graft of eight abdominal organs was transplanted orthotopically.

Modelling Hydrological Consequences of Climate Change—Progress and Challenges

The simulation of hydrological consequences of climate change has received increasing attention fromthe hydrology and land-surface modelling communities. There have been many studies of climate-changeeffects on hydrology and water resources which usually consist of three steps: (1) use of general circulationmodels (GCMs) to provide future global climate scenarios under the effect of increasing greenhouse gases,(2) use of downscaling techniques (both nested regional climate models, RCMs, and statistical methods)for "downscaling" the GCM output to the scales compatible with hydrological models, and (3) use ofhydrologic models to simulate the effects of climate change on hydrological regimes at various *** progress has been achieved in all three steps during the past few years, however, large uncertaintiesstill exist in every stage of such study. This paper first reviews the present achievements in this field andthen discusses the challenges for future studies of the hydrological impacts of climate change.

The genetic landscape of cholangiocarcinoma(CCA)remains largely *** is one of the deadliest cancers(1),with the gold standard treatment for all anatomical forms(intrahepatic-iCCA,perihilar-pCCA and distal-dCCA)being surgical resection(with adjuvant capecitabine also recommended in the newest guidelines)(2,3).The importance of genetic markers in terms of postoperative and oncological outcomes is being increasingly recognized,but few actionable mutations have been identified so far(2,4).This is particularly pertinent for patients with advanced/irresectable disease,who rely on systemic *** outcomes are poor in these patients[5-year survival up to 10%-(5)]and they would profit the most from novel,targeted therapies.
